Melbourne football club flag

Just wondering what everyone thinks about the dees when we will win our next flag and what we need to do to get it.

We have a new coach is this going to be the one to develope our players we will have to wate and see.

Should we bottom out like the tanks because at the moment they look like they might win a flag before us.

Mate that's the big question isn't it.

Its hard to judge things like this. It's been 44 years now and whilst the past 10 or so years we've been competitive we've never really looked like were in with a real shot. Sadly with our recent form I think it is inevitible that we will finish near the bottom even if we do play all our older guys. I suppose the good thing is that we have a head start if we choose to rebuild as all our youngsters seem to be pretty handy

This time last year a number of media people had us in their top 4 - this year they'll ll have us in the bottom 2 or 3.

No practice wins - who can blame them. Apart from the Geelong game I haven't seen them this year. I think Melbourne are a 6 to 12 side depending on injuries.

My biggest hope is that the demons get some late 80's mongrel back into them, not punches or that but good hard solid crunching tackling - win or lose I'd like opposition sides to say that they copped a few bruises and were tackled hard in a Melbourne game and they were sore - that's my first step to getting a Melbourne side back as a force. There were too many "soft arm tackles" as Gerard Healy called them. A hard tackling side creates pressue - have a look at what ST Kilda did to Adelaide on Saturday night.

To be fair mate Moloney and sylvia were smashing blokes into the turf all day on Saturday. Obviously didn't make much difference though.

To the original question I would say not to worry about possibly being out of town in September for at least a few years.

  • The Clayton Oliver Thread

Melbourne have held talks with Clayton Oliver and they’ve laid out where he fits in under Steve King’s vision and been frank about expectations. Oliver is still under contract for five years, but the door is open if he wants to explore his options elsewhere.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
