i dunno the requirements but i am guessing he would be well up there with the best of the afl's newest

petterds potential seems great lets hope he gets enuff game time.

He did get nominated last season but that is not going to stop him from winning it this year

Here are the rules:

The AFL Rising Star Award was instituted in 1993 to recognise and encourage talented young players in the AFL. After each round of home and away games, a player is nominated and at the end of the season a panel of experts selects the winner. The winner must be under the age of 21 at January 1 of that year, must not have played more than 10 games to the start of that season and must not have been suspended by the AFL or State League tribunals during the season (as with the Brownlow Medal, players found guilty of certain offences and fined or reprimanded by the Tribunal remain eligible to win the award).

The way I see it he turned 19 in january, played 8 games last year - so rather than get the hopes of the other young blokes up, just give him the medal now!!!!!!

id rate him higher then innacurate mitch clark ,tom hawkins , even bryce gibbs hasnt impressed so far this year

Alwyn Davey cant win it as he is to old

You can be nominated two years in a row, as long you played less than 12 games in the previous year.

Jones only played 8 matches last year, therefore he is still eligable.

FYI, Jonesy will play his 18th career game on Monday. Gun! :D

Edit: damn, someone beat me to it. :P

on finalsiren in the rising star category, pettrd is number 6 pretty good, jones is 41

The Final Siren criteria differs markedly from the NAB award, viz "To be eligible players must have played in no more than 50 games before the start of the selected season and must have played in at least 5 games over the currently selected or previous season". You'll also see that McLean is 20 and Deledio (his year winner), 19. Jones was way higher last year. Time has a way of evening things out.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
