yeah, i do apologise for sounding a bit harsh writing that, i was quite frustrated at the time.

as deanox was saying, i am alluding to people who have no prior commitments, live close to the ground and yet decide to stay home and watch on tv, and then spend the next day ragging on the club. obviously if you live 3 hours away this would qualify as an excuse wouldn't it, don't just get all prissy and assume i'm attacking everyone who doesn't go.

really gets to me when fans have no prior commitments, could go to the game but decide to watch at home, yet still then have a go at the club after not putting in the effort themselves.

sorry if i didn't make myself clear

I don't get it.

You CHOOSE to support Melbourne, nobody puts a gun to your head. Therefore the club owes you nothing!

If you don't like it, you can get up and leave at anytime. The door is open, and nobody is forcing you to stay.

I hate the notion that the club owes us supporters anything. It doesn't.

This club has existed long before it supporters turned into a whinging, soft, fickle bunch of moaners, and let us hope that it continues to exist long after they all get over themselves.

We complain that our board, coaches and players are all soft, and yet the only truly weak part of our club is our members who need to get paid in order to turn out in numbers. If there is one thing I hate about this club, is the outside perception brought on because the majority of our supporters berate instead of barrack!

/Vent over.

Good post Jaded (and did you "win" the cash?!!)......

I must admit to being a more than a little jealous of those of you down there who at least have the option of seeing the team go around every week (more or less), even when they are losing. Living up here they only come to town once a year (and I do love this city, but supporting a Melbourne team in Sydney can be difficult - could be why I am here!!), and I would love to have to option of being able to see them more often without having to jump a plane and spend a fortune.

But of course people can't go see them play every week (I don't think anyone would actually expect that) but this monetary incentive program from the club is actually a pretty sad indictment on the crowds (and therefore support) we have been getting to the games, even with the current awful results.

And Jaded is totally right in saying that the club doesn't owe us anything. It is a choice. We choose to support Melbourne (like any sports supporter anywhere), we choose to pay our membership, to support and go to games, and buy raffle tickets and jerseys and everything else it entails. A lot of people pay to hurl abuse at the players (although you can probably do this for free) and have their say. But it is still our individual choice.

Now we definitely want some reward for that choice (some day), but even in failure your support should never waver. And it should never be a trade off.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
