Last year's game 13 Aug
Tonight
1. Players not playing tonight (who played last year): Oliver, Hibberd, Petty, Melksham, Brown, Jordan, Hunt, Jackson Sub: Bedford
2. Players in (who didn't play last year): Chandler, Roo, J Smith, Grundy, Hunter, McVee, Tomlinson, Bowey 23rd player: Jordan

Last year
1. 55,705 on a Saturday night
2. Cripps plays after (a 4 & a half hour session) getting off at tribunal. Boo'd heavily in the 1st q
3. Had the Blues won (or drawn), they played finals for 1st time since 2013. Plenty to play for then...and tonight
4. Lingers booed regularly, didn't realise the Blues liked duck for dinner. Geez I miss the hair
5. Dees continued staying top 4 all year with the win (40 weeks in total)
6. This Canberran fan got to attend this thriller

1st
1. Cerra plays after getting off at the tribunal (didn’t play last year, abductor strain)
2. Setterfield to McKay (who's on Maysie) within first 30 seconds. Harry kicks it out on the full, May feeds it to him
3. Milkshakes (game 205) & Viney both miss terribly with shots on goal in first 5 mins.
4. 1st goal Melky after Trac sublime delivery. Brawshaw takes next centre bounce (& plenty more) already up to 3 clearances
5. 6 zip contested marks (we ave'd 11/game last year), 24/18 contested possessions, 4 zip free's to us after 10mins. Tackles 10/7 to them
6. Blues 1st score is a May rushed behind with 8 to play
7. McKay round the corner kick for goal (after run down tackle on Gus). A Silvagni point on the siren gives them the lead. 1.2.8 to 1.3.9
8. Gus (11 disp) & Gawny (& Dogga) enormous this q

2nd:
1. 2nd goal a Kozzy special, superb tackle causes a free on the 50. 33rd goal for the season. Geez I miss the hair
2. 7-4 tackles inside 50 to us
3. 11/4 contested marks to us with 11 to play. Gawn at his best. Free's 10/4 to us.
4. Curnow given [censored] downfield free from Petty off the ball, misses...badly. Petty then saves certain goal a minute later
5. 26/20 contested possy's to us, 13/7 tackles to them, 10 to play.
6. 2.4.16 a piece with 6 & a half to play (average score each team is 87 Dees, 85 Blues at this point of 2022). Lowest scoring half for the year with 3mins to play
7. May & Petty owning McKay & Curnow respectively. Pressure from both teams elite
8. 3rd goal Melky incredible crumb & goal
9. 4th goal Fritta after a downfield free
10. 4.6.30 to 3.4.22 Dees win 2nd q

3rd
1. 5th goal -GAAAAAWNY! Big mark in the 50, goes back & slots it at 15min mark
2. 6th goal - Melky with his 3rd after a lovely entry from Clarry

6. 6 lead changes thus far
7. Blues win 3rd but Dees lead 7.11.53 to 7.8.50. Brawshaw with 30, 9 clearances BOG. Crippa 24 (15 contested, 8 clearances,  8 tackles)

1. No Blues fans have left the ground.  Weird feeling
2. Max's marking a factor. Curnow 4 behinds for the night
3. 7th lead change put Blues in the lead with 14 to play
4. 8th goal (& lead change) - Lingers brilliance on the goal line
5. Get one go our way, score review says Petty touches one as it sails through the middle with 11 to play. Given the result, nice to get one
6. Free's 22/11 to us 10 to play. 9th lead change, Blues lead (J.Martin with 3)
7. 9th goal - BIG mark. Big Benny Brown. Crowd goals wild
8. 13/8 inside 50's, 62%/38% time in forward half to them 4 to play.
9. Curnow finally kicks one (62 for the year, leading the Coleman) with 3 to go
10. 10th goal - HUUUGE Melky mark kicks 4th, first time since 2018. 2mins left
11. With 30 seconds left, Lever famously kicks to the corridor, Hunt delivers to the perfect spot aaand Melky superb to....KOZZY!!!! (10th lead change)

• Fritta & Brown (although both applied GREAT inside 50 pressure/tackles) quiet
• Backline fantastic; Salem, Hunt, Hibbo, Rivers & the big 3. McKay kicks 3 but gifted 2 by the umps
• Hopefully Smith can have a 'Melky' game

I was at a festival in Czech Republic and was checking scores, showed scores to a mate next to me, both said we are cooked.
A few mins later I saw we had got closer, saw the score tick even closer with little time, kept it open and watched the score go in our fav and elbowed my mate super hard and laughed and laughed and laughed.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
