We wont win a flag til Bruce, Green, White, Davey, Johnstone etc.. are 2nd tier players

And if u were coach u would never want fresh new talent. whats the point in squeezing a lime for juice when its unripe. There are players for melb who must be traded for the future of melb. Clubs unfortunatly wont take P.Johnson, S.Godfrey, N.Brown, P.Wheatley so we must trade for draft picks. Its now about the future as melb are going backwards and y try and string 2 years where we will be ordinary when we can go for bottom 4 now and be a chance 2 years earlier than we would if we try and make a premiership of what we have atm

This is the problem with some people. Two disappointing performances, and all of a sudden it's time to start re-building!! It's called a knee-jerk reaction, and you are providing a perfect example of it. By the by, I am all for injecting new talent into the team, which is why I don't want to drop the youngsters. I would much prefer to see Sylvia, Buckley, Newton and co. than I would see Godfrey, Brown or Wheatley. If we turn after eleven rounds at 8-3 or 7-4, will you still be calling for a re-building stage or will you be pushing for a flag.

It's two weeks in. Freo are 0-2 and they ain't panicking. For Christ's sake.

Freo looked like a reasonably organized team in those losses. We look to be in complete disarray!

This is the classic case that we do far too often by thinking we are better than we are. We didnt recruit we just thought we were going to do better by doing nothing. Look at Essendon they recruited well and are looking good. If you don't recruit chances are you will stagnate and with other teams getting better every year chances are that you will go backwards and that is exactly what we are doing add the fact that we have our captain out. The 3 players that improved us as a team last year out in Pickett, McLean and Bartram and youngsters that we would be expecting to help us improve this year in Sylvia, Dunn and Frawley and you are behind the 8 ball already. Injuries are killing us we are playing shocking football but I think we can turn it around as long as we recruit heavily and stop holding on to fringe players that have been around for a while. Our injury prevention must get better. Hawthorn under Bohdan were injury ravaged we are now the same. Either there is a problem with his training methods like what a lot of people have wrote on this forum or he is just bad luck either way we should get rid of him it's not working. We won't turn it around in time to save Daniher's job but all is not lost.

Answer this quest. Would u prefer us be a contender in 07 and 08 knowing in 09 and 10 we will be ordinary with loss of White, Neitz, Yze, Whelan OR would u prefer we looked at bottom 4 the next 2 years, play a young side and by 2010 we have a good team (whereas the other option we pretend for 2 years and it takes us 2 years more than if the other option). It hurts but this is long term planning

And i hate this from people like you. Thinking we can still have a chance at the premiership with an ordinary depth, injuries. We come 6-8 we wont make the final day in sep. If were to come 1-4 we must lose a max of 3 games for the season. Woohoo I am so confident of that!

Have a drink (if your old enough), and just settle down. When Sydney won the flag, they were being called a "middle of the road" average side after 12 rounds. Look at life with the glass half full, not half empty.

I've been thinking a similar thing for the past couple of years.

Don't get me wrong, players Bruce, Green, Johnstone are all very good players and they will contribute to a side in getting to the finals and even through the finals series, but we honestly really don't have anybody who can be compared to the class of Judd, Black, J Brown, etc. I haven't seen a player who could singlehandedly win a game off their own boot for atleast 1/2 a decade.

That's not true. The list os ok, there's certainly more than our fair share of young guys coming through, but it's still such a long way from looking like a premiership threat.

Last year after round 3 I remember everyone was in one camp or the other. Either you thought we could still threaten, or you thought we were playing for Gibbs. The truth was that even if we won 11 of the next 12 we'd still not win a flag. And that was the truth.

So what if we're 8-3? If the dees are capable of bringing just 1 quarter of that crap against Freo or WC at Subi or the Swans ANYWHERE we wouldn't get within 10 goals. The Hawks tried to hand us that game all day with their shots on goal.

The list is good, but some of the best bits are about to go the the big football pitch in the sky, and the rest aren't a full side. You can have 3 Brocks in the middle, it won't matter without a Neitz to kick it to.

Oh, and Freo are missing Johnson and Farmer something shocking. Tarrant and Pavlich are doing it all alone. When those guys get back, and they're as fit as a fiddle, Freo will start DESTROYING sides.

Didn't say you were. And if that's a backhanded swipe at me, I don't appreciate the insinuation.

Can't we all just get along! Look at us! Turning on eachother. Eating our young. Imploding. Ahh, the life of a Demons fan.

Davey is a flash of light but plays in the wrong position. Until Daniher realises he needs to be in the centre for EVERY BOUNCE, he will be underused and wasted.

i hope that is sarcasm.... davey belongs in the forward line and the forward line only!

i cant believe we played Godfrey over YZE for starters, Godfrey is a tryer yes but he aint AFL material and never will be, i respect him for trying but this is a business. Also Bate is no Number 6 draft pick what a waste, he is shocking i cant see a very good future for him. Holland should of played instead of wheatley but even he needs to go. These players need to be [censored] off at the end of the year:

Godfrey

Holland

Brown

Ward

Wheatley

Bate

They have no future. Daniher would of been better blooding some young guys, what a waste of 2 games.

I seriously believe we are in need of a team revamp. Look at these teams: Dogs,Geelong, Hawks, WCE, Brisbane, Essendon. These teams have been bottom 4 at least 2 years and have developed their team to be a potentual premiership side.

I believe that we should cut our loses not and try to finish bottom 4 for 2 years, getting kids and playing them. We will not win a premiership with the current team and with likes of white and neitz out in 2009 then we should follow essendon and Brisbane who have finished bottom 4 for 2 years and now look like an ok team. 2 years of pain is bearable but first ditch the coach.

The other option is to keep playing for finals this year and next, not get there and then look towards the future. The worry with this is by then we could have already finished bommom 2 and looking towards the future.

Give Red Nob (aka Bate) a chance. He was a cracking little player last year. Quite a surprise. Hasn't fired up yet this year, but that seems to be indicative of the whole team.

Give me a break!

To start with Bate was pick 13, and take a look at the list from that draft after pick 13......nothing special after pick 15 IMO.....Lynden Dunn.

Bate will be a very good player.........he made a difference when he came into the team last year with his hard running and long goals.

Bate has struggled along with 21 other teammates in the first 2 games this year! He has made no more errors or mistakes than experienced players who have played 10 times the amount of footy he has.

Give the kid a chance!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
