The biggest slap in the face of all

I think this is an interesting insight from Morton, and it fits in with what I have heard about the club.

I received 18 months of treatment from a physio who had just taken up a new role as a part time physio at the MFC in early 2010 - what turned out to be Bailey's last year. He had no previous AFL club experience and was very impressed with the professionalism of the club.

Seeing him 12 months later in late 2010/early 2011 after all the upheaval, I asked him what the difference under Neeld was - and quite to my surprise (and his), he remarked that the training and level of professionalism required had increased even more under the new coach.

It just shows how far behind the 8-ball we were under Bailey, and if what Morton says is true, how far behind a club like WCE we currently are.

Although it doesn't surprise me that at a strong club with ELITE midfielders that Morton is finishing outside the top 10 runners, that would be a given I would have thought.

Those who long for the Bailey days should have a read of this article: how far did he set the club back, and how many years would it take to get that back?

Not saying that Neeld is THE answer but at least he has identified what a lazy unfit mob we had when he took the helm and has tried to do something about it. Tried being a word that Morton didn't know when it came to a contested game of footy.

Yep, & this is the reason imo, why a senior player & other younger ones had to Go!

resistance against the new disciplines & Values cannot be tolerated, or the changing of the Culture is failed before its started... some had to go.

.... this has put us back a bit, but has opened up room for other kids to come thru, like MJones, Kent, Magner, Viney, Evans, & others on the way up.

as you build a list some have to make way when they aren't doing the right thing & helping improvement.

Neeld did already know we weren't up to it, before he got to Us... they got Misson for this reason. It would have been widely known the level of hard work the Dees players of the past have done.

To be honest, I think Cale could have gone harder than he did. He was quite matter or fact. I believe Riv said something along the lines of 'Neeldy made the club an unpleasant place to go to work' didn't he?

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
