The James Meiklejohn Thread

Featured Replies

Now this guy fits the bill in my opinion for our first round rookie pick.

A ruckman at 198cm, 101kg, 27 in July 2011, he's been playing very solid footy in the SANFL.

Averages 5 kicks, 8 handballs, 3 marks & 25 hitouts a match this year with Port Adelaide Magpies, only kicked the 4 goals for the season however.  He's also averaged about 2 tackles a game which isn't bad for a big man.

If we are to get rid of PJ (which I hope we do) along with Meesen that would leave us with Jamar (gun), Martin (hopefully may be able to step up to no 2 ruck role), Spencer (hopefully can take a step next year) and then Fitzpatrick & Gawn (both of whom aren't ready).

If Jamar were to get injured and Spencer wasn't up to it, then we'd need some insurance and that's where selecting someone like Meiklejohn as a rookie could be vital, especially as he's physically ready and his stats suggest he's a ruckman who does a bit around the ground.

Would be interested to hear everyone's thoughts on a rookie selection like this, and especially the SA Dees out there who may of seen a bit more of Meiklejohn, you reckon he's up to the caper?

I know he was a rookie on Sydney's list years back but as we know it takes a while for the big fellas to develop.

Absolutely interested in getting a temp', or cheap ruck, while we develop the kids. Rookie or preseason, you bet.
