Trade First Round Draft Pick for Ruckman

Featured Replies

and even more relevant with free agency fast approaching and us with a young poachable list. Honour and trust is a two way street; we will expect players to place a high value on loyality; therefore it is not unreasonable that the players would expect the same from a club. This integrity or trust will be built/destroyed on actions - the MFC will likely be viewed by AFL players quite favourably because of their handling of Newton/Meeson.

Like most of us that have been in a relationship, we know that once trust is broken it is very difficult, nigh impossible to get back!!!

AGREE- (as per in my thread list changes-I believe we should be looking at another ruckman.

However,in answering this thread- I like Rhys Stanley 200 cm at St Kilda, Hampson, Shaun 20110021.03.88 from Carlton,Laycock at Essendon(however injured alot) to name a few more.Charman from Brisbane is my choice- tough and will give our young one's confidence.

So we trade a first round pick for an underperforming, ordinary injury ridden ruck from Essendon? Doh! Dont we already have 3 injury struck ruckman on our list at the moment?

If we have Jamar as the No 1 ruckman why would we punt our first round pick on a 28 year old injury riddled ruckman from Brisbane who has not an effective role there for 2 years and is unlikely to overcome Clark and Leuey. And if we are playing Jamar and have Charman as No 2 back up ruck then how does it give the young players confidence when it snuffs their opportunity.

And if Charman is not competing for that role and is at Casey, I could not think a bigger waste of your first round pick.

Its the lopsided same value proposition as swapping Trengove at year end for a 4th round pick.

...I think we should trade pick 14 for Cameron Wood. He will be a critical part of our next premiership tilt because Lauren Jackson- I mean, Josh Fraser can't carry the ruck for us...

Wow!

What happened??!

I blacked out for a second there...

Rhino, don't you think our list is at a stage now where we should be using the draft to fill holes in our list?? The best available youngster may very well be another midfielder. Do we really need to add to our midfield?? I think we need to be looking out for the best available KPF or ruckman, and if that means trading for one then it's probably a viable option

No you "fill your holes" via the trade table - then you always draft "best available" - depending where you think you are in the cycle.

Seems like the generally accepted universal theory that most clubs subscribe too.

However, must confess we are entering into "un-chartered waters" with the introduction of two new teams - very hard to predict their impact with the concessions they have been given.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
