When did PJ become such a bad player?

PJ's 2008 form was very good, looked to be coming on as a player. showed in more than couple of matchs, that he was capible of dominating play.

From what i remeber, at the end of 2008 season, he went in for surgury.

What went wroung? he has never returned to the PJ of 2008, why? was it the injury sustained in 2008? will he ever be back to 2008 form?

To me, it seems that PJ thinks he is a wingman. He moves great for a big bloke, with good balance, and awesome below his knees, but he just doesn't seem to know how to use his size. I think he struggles with the body on body stuff. If he could work out that he is bigger than 95% of players on the field he would be a fantastic player, but at the moment, in my opinion, he is not up to it.

Injury list as at 30 March 2010

- Colin Sylvia – Jaw – Test

- Austin Wonaeamirri – Hamstring – 2

- Neville Jetta – Groin – 3-4 weeks

- Daniel Bell - Shoulder – 4 weeks

- Cale Morton – Knee – 6 weeks

- Liam Jurrah - Shoulder – 13 weeks

- John Meesen – Ankle – Indefinite

- Max Gawn – Knee – Indefinite

- Luke Tapscott – Hip – Indefinite

does anyone know if Watts will be playing AFL this round?? & any news on Garland?

Whose hamstrings don't take 3-4??

That's standard.

At AFL level, any hamstring, even a grade 1 strain (only 25-50% of fibres damaged) take 4 weeks to recover minimum.

B/c hammies can reoccur very easily, every team takes a cautiuos approach. It's sensible

Also,

The fact that Wona has done his hammy 3-4 times in the past 12 months is VERY bad for his playing future. Hammy's that reoccur can threaten his career.

It is especially bad that Wona is doing his hammy from an action that is not particularly straining (i.e. tackling). I would prefer he did his hammy doing a 110% sprint, which puts real strain at the hammy. The fact he is doing is while tackling suggests his hammy's are bloody weak

I thought you were describing Travis Cloke for a minute there.Anyway, any Melbourne players looking to man up Travis Cloke need look no further than the wing or very wide out on one of the flanks.Doesn't like any heavy traffic areas.

I'll add a bit more about Aussie, had a good chat to him and watched him, he was doing a series of runs 20M, 50M etc etc at different speeds, no limp, restriction etc, when he came to get a drink and a rest, I asked him how it was going as he looked to be running easily, he explained that was the frustrating part for him because he can run, change direction, jump etc, that is why they are sending him to a specialist, it is when he tackles, obviously he uses his torso and it could be linked to his back taking the strain and then overstretching the hamstring and pinging it, a lot of hammy problems are back related, they want him to see a specialist to confirm this, he is still doing the running so when they know what it is and how to fix it he has not lost any fitness.

I am of small stature, and when I was playing I found trying to stick a tackle on a guy that weighed 85 to 90K when I weighed 70 was a bit of strain.......Aussie is no giant so he has to throw eveything into the tackle....see my other post

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
