Keeping up the reputation of the Politburo in at the Kremlin as the greatest tossers in the game. They are totally out of touch with the real world and the struggle street out here in Clubland.

Imagine how the embattled secretary of some Club out in the Wimmera would feel reading about a 2 week, all expenses paid rort for three of them when the money involved could sustain a country Club for a full season.

On the Monday after last year's Grand Final when the players from the participating teams were enjoying the now-traditional "Mad Monday" if you rang AFL headquarters after noon you got a recorded message saying that the office was closed for the day.

Why?

Because all the suits were having a "Mad Monday" of their own.

In my office we don't all close the joint down and head for the pub on, for example, the afternoon of the Company's Annual General Meeting.

This is totally acceptable, its researching how to take tickets off real fans and instead give them to corporate people - These guys have probably never watched an NFL game, yet turn up to watch the biggest game of the year, much like most of the people at the AFL grand final

Well put

The longer people work in the corporate world the more ok they become with spending money in ever more extravagant ways. The heads of the AFL, in the middle of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, decide on an oversees holiday in the name of business. Please tell me the benefits this will bring our competition or the thousands of club members who keep it afloat? The prcedent that 11 years of John Howard set is, Look after yourself, [censored] everybody else, especially if they are stupid enough to be poor.

I disagree to the responses so far, at that level it's important to have a good understanding on what other organisations do and how they operate, especially very successful ones.

The term 'junket' is just a cheap shot on what is a legitimate business practice, as for Jeff Kennett making these demands go back and look at his movements when he was premier, what a hypocrite.

Did you live through the 80's?

Junkets are a way of life at the top, free ticket here, free admisson there. One of the reasons I go too very few events, because as a ticket purchaser and consumer I am basically there to subsisdise freebies.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
