Petty has a massive presence on the ground and looks imposing. I absolutely love seeing him giving it to the oppo fans and players. Saw an interview with him after the game and he looked like a little kid. Proper stoked for the guy. Long may it continue.

Smith was enormously effective in his one quarter, whereas BBB, despite pushing upfield and making himself a target at times, seemed unable to get to contests in the F50 which allowed numerous virtually uncontested intercept marks for their defenders.
I suspect Smith's agility would enable him to make those contests BBB could not, so maybe he should be given a full game. The only query is that he seems to fade out of games when he takes the field early. Is he fit enough, mentally sharp enough, to be worth the gamble?
Smith offers way more than BBB. He competes harder and applies genuine forward pressure. Should be picked first imho.

Don't know if anyone else in this thread has mentioned it, but we had one single tackle inside our forward 50. Not good.

When we stop kicking it down the line from kick outs we look so much better. We have the skills to play that way yet we rarely do.

Smith was much better than OK today. Looking forward to seeing what he can do with a few more games under his belt.

First quarter was terrible but can’t be overly disappointed with the loss. Port are a good team and that was hostile territory. We did well to be in a winning position and they just go on top of us. Need to sort out these quarters where our mids seemingly go missing.

I don't think Rivers is getting enough love for the outstanding season he is having.
He's an absolute Jet. Really hope he gets more midfield minutes.

Wouldn't mind seeing us put Rivers in the middle instead of Sparrow. He has elite disposal and can find plenty of it.

You have to pinch yourself at the moment with the amount of star talent on this list.
It’s hard not to disagree with some commentators when they say only one flag would be a disappointment.

Bloke was a Vice Captain at the Dogs before he ran into his personal issues. Whatever has led to him falling out with the dogs surely can be rectified. You don't become a VC in a club that has just won a flag if you're a liability.

I highly rate Hunter. Would be very good having him and Langdon on either side.

We've traded Coke for Pepsi.
Depending on the day, who you're talking to, and the water purity in the region, the value could go either way
I'd say this is more a RC Cola for LA Ice kinda deal.

So we trade Weid for a worser version of Weid...

Moronic view. Take best offer an move on.
Agree. We also want to be a place where players want to play and want to come to, not one that holds players over a barrel. Players move clubs, it's reality.

No vibes. Saw a rumour on big footy, which likely has zero substance, but how good would he look in our forward line. I'd happily give up a first and early second rounder for him.

Would love it if we could use picks from LJ to chase a KFP like Naughton.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but I thought we looked much better without a ruck in the forward line and just traditional setup. We were actually hitting up leads and there was space for the smalls to create pressure. The previous three weeks our conversion inside was 33%, 41% and 43%. Against Lions it was 56%. Double what we had agains the pies! I'm not sure where that leaves us when Gawn comes back, but I think we need to reduce the height on the forward line if we want to convert.

I've been trying to find a similar article that's headline was "what do Melbourne stand for?" Pretty sure it was John Ralph who wrote it, but haven't been able to track it down. Was written after the dogs beat us in preseason and we had a huge amount of players out for that game.

I agree. He’s been a good appointment. Experienced and well connected. Some of the baseless commentary on this thread is embarrassing.
re the merchandise. I believe the forecast by all parties inc the AFL, MFC and suppliers was well under. Which is a slight miss but I think MFC supporters generally don’t wear as much club kit as other Vic clubs.
I was just reading we'd sold something like three years worth of the stuff in the lead up and post grand final celebrations? Is that still unders?

After this season let's just let the boys enjoy themselves. If your kids won't jump on board after seeing them win the big dance in their home state, I reckon nothing will get them on.

Fritsch is a star. Had an outstanding year. At the end of last year people were critical of his inaccuracy in front of goal but he addressed that issue very quickly. 59.24 is a great achievement.
Also worth remembering that he kicked 12 goals in our three finals games. You couldn't really ask for a better finals series than that.
Running at 71% accuracy this season which is crazy numbers. I was calling him "Five Chance Fritsch" at the start of the year because he was so unreliable. Really showed me.

Never been so excited you go tops off?
I live in Footscray and I've seen like two in the last year on the streets, but then again I don't leave my house much with that whole stay at home order covid thing.
I have three friends that are dogs fans around my age and they are ok. Only seen the one flag, got a little lippy but nothing untoward like richmond fans. they got put back in there place pretty quickly.Footscray is basically token Western Suburbs these days given the gentrification. Out here in the boonies, Melton & Bacchus Marsh WB heartland, that's where you'll find toothless/shoeless doggies fans. Doug Hawkins lives just around the corner from me and I see him regularly grabbing a coffee.
