Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Dee Zephyr replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's obvious the FD rate this kid as most of us on here and if takes that much to get him so be it. 600k probably won't do it per season but if they believe Lever will make us better I'm all for it. I know nothing about the contract status of other Crows players but you would think their stocks would rise if they win the flag so it will be interesting to see if they offer Lever similar money to us. -
It's a really good question. What makes a good or great captain? I am a big fan of Tex Walker as a player but I wouldn't know how he verbally lifts his players as a captain or what goes on behind the scenes. He's been voted best captain by his peers for 2 years in a row and I can only go by what I see when he plays. For me it's as simple as a pack busting mark or a long bomb from 50 when the team needs it, similar to David Neitz. Half way through the season someone posted a video of Jones talking about how he knocked back offers from other clubs whilst our club was at its lowest ebb. He wanted to stay in the hope one day HIS footy club would rise from the ashes and it's almost there. That for me is leadership enough and I will be comfortable with any decision Jones makes about his role. He busted his ass for years at the bottom of packs with no support what so ever. There have been many captains of clubs where for sheer skill wouldn't be in the teams top 10. Come to think of it, I couldn't care less now if he had a sook or not about sharing the captaincy.

Cheers, can't remember so far back, so much crap has gone on since.
-
Did he really have a sook or was it more a tad shocked by being blindsided?
-
Give him one more year, let Viney chomp at the bit for another year, although he's probably doing it as we speak. Hopefully with finals next year it would be a great way to finish off for Jonesy whilst Viney will gain some more experience and be ready to go 2019 and beyond.

Within a couple of days he will be here, on Friday we should all turn up with our red and blue scarves and welcome him. -
I'm so glad I fell asleep prior to the telecast, I think I would have smashed my TV after round 5. Wow, the above is a disgrace!
-
Oliver paying $5 with TAB to finish top 5 and $3.25 to poll over 18.5 votes. Both odds tempting.
-
Go Crows, they have been the best all year in my opinion and I would like to see them win it but it doesn't always work out like that. Tex to tear Richmond a new one and win the Norm Smith!!!
-
Oh yeah... the forgotten man!
-
I will only trade Max for a 2016 Max. Regardless what you we get for him, who plays as our ruck? Honestly......
-
Seriously GWS, repeat that 10 minutes you showed against us and it's over, but no......
-
Bulls**t thread!!!!

Imagine if Watts ends up with boys as kids, would love to see this thread in 20 years time, I hope the stork delivers girls.....

29 Years Ago: Dancing on the Big Stage Again
Dee Zephyr replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I remember the ball actually crossing over the goal line from Ricky's shot and the wind swung the ball onto the back of the post. Gosh, I was only a little fella back then but that's how I remember the debate on it from the post match discussion. -
Faaark, why didn't we just pick Naitanui, then we'd be discussing how he's offered nothing in the last 12 months due to his knee injury. Then again, he would have headed west 3 seasons in and we would have ended up with Watts in return.

Let me tell you what my Crow friends think of Lever. A slow unaccountable 3rd tall intercept defender who is crap one on one but the same people would like Oliver, Trac, Brayshaw or Hunt in return. -
No harm in trying I suppose.
-
Sorry GCDee but that's gold!

Stringer speaking out at 11. AFL site reporting he will break his silence, don't think he will give much away. Might be an interesting way though to start the launch of trade radio.

Does anyone have a contact within Australia post? If so, ask them to quietly check if Lever has redirected his mail. -
I don't believe we would be better of without Watts unless we bring in a Toby Greene type. Supposedly he was poor pre-season, played round 1 and never looked back until his hamstring injury. I remember an almost super human effort against Geelong in round 3 after Max went down. Can anyone tell me of another MFC player that could have filled the void that day with such impact? Queens birthday speaks for itself, the week later against the Dogs he was great, kicked an important goal on the half time siren from 50m out on a pretty tight angle to halt a slight Dogs charge. Misses the next several weeks and comes back without any real impact. Looking at the shot on goal in the GWS game where he took a run up of about 3 steps indicates to me there was something more than a lack of desired effort, even if i wasn't trying I would not make it that obvious. I much prefer the I salute Jack Watts thread of several weeks ago.

Couldn't agree more, we are one of the worst contested marking sides if not the worst in the comp and to trade Max for Lever doesn't make sense to me. If Hogan or Max were to be traded and I would suggest they are two of our best at contesting marks I would want someone coming back that does the same or better. Lever is great at intercepting but I'm not sure if that's a like for like.
