  1. I never wanted Judd. I made that very public and i couldnt believe how many people did. Sure hes a great player but 1 player will NOT win you a premiership. I was not prepared to even lose pick 4 for him if it were a straight swap. Please lets end this madness now and for people to say they were prepared to see either frawley or pettard go along with 2 or 3 picks i have no idea how u can call urselves melbourne supporters

  2. Just spoke to someone at the club. All practice matches are closed to the public. So we will not be able to see the blokes play until the Geelong game. From a previous post I read here on Demonland, about Chris Connolly having a go at a supporter who took photos at a training session, there is real paranoia around the club.

Not sure of my thoughts on closed sessions, but it's frustrating that all other clubs dont see the need for these closed sessions.

I have no issue with that. We are in it to win it and if we can win a flag off it in the next few years then good on em.

  3. but seriously, are geelong really going to punish him severely? i mean the guy played like a champion on g/f day,(not that it would have been hard) won the norm smith, came back from oscurity in the vfl. everyone has been caught speeding havent they? we all know what its like to see the fine and the humiliation from peers. its not like he did any drugs! he wouldnt be a good role model to kids anyways imo.

Well we havnt all sped 70ks over the limit and if you do u should have ur licence taken off u immediatly. Yes 5 or 10ks can happen just not realising the limit has changed or being distracted for a second or 2. But i cant say i know anyone that goes 70ks over the limit. Your argument is pointless because drugs only affect him. If he were taking drugs, he chooses too. Nobody makes him and the only one who sufferes is him with the side effects of parents, family and friends. Speeding by excessive speeds means that you are not only risking urself (and i couldnt give a damn if steve was injured) but also other epople on the road he may have never met. 50km zones are commonly around housing areas and the likelyhood of a child running onto the road in these areas is very high or a pet on the road. I for the life cant understand why people cant see the seriousness of this. 47 people died on AUstralian roads over the chrissy and new year period and 17 were in victoria. Thats 47 families that must now be effected, some of which were other motorests who did nothing wrong or pedestrans. In the last 2 weeks 8 people have been killed in victoria alone. Geelong must take some action that is better than a slab on the wrist and community service. Sure, the community service is good because he can meet people that could have been his motorests he injured. But the club needs to get serious and actually ban the guy from the game until there is sufficient evidence hes not acting stupidly. Geelong have the power to terminate his employement and obviously steve wont volinteer to have his career ended. Geelong must get harsher and i would say that about any club. Heck if mclean or jones were in the same position as what steves done, i would be wanting their playing career cancled no matter if there the next judd, hird or buckley

  4. occo, you haven't explained how Steve Johnson's actions have anything to do with the Geelong Football Club. On the other hand, Sharrod Wellingham cost Collingwood a significant sponsorship.

All your other emotive statements should be directed at our lawmakers, not the Geelong Football Club.

Geelong have responsibility over the players that they draft. Not only does the club look stupid from the incident but it can effect team moral too. Clubs need to be encoraged, and perhaps they do, teach players about the community and acting responsibly. The club needs to hold some responsibility but steve is a man after all and only he can behave how he wants. Geelong need to realise that after so many warnings, the risk of steve doing another stupid incident is high and need to act on that by terminating his playing career

  5. I think geelong have been too soft. And contrary to what people on here say, it does have something to do with the club. Steve just does not get it. He has been caught doing dangerious and illegal activities 3 times now and his recent media appoligy was stupid. The kid clearly has not learnt his lesson and he goes up behind a desk infront of cameras and says that hes sorry. Three times is too many times and if he really was sorry after his 6 week ban, he wouldnt have done this. 120km/h in a 50 zone, thats not an extra 5 ks or 20 its bloody 70 ks. I have some sympothy for the collingwood player who just moved his car. It was illegal but not as dangerious as steves incident.

There are enough deaths and accidents on victorian roads and people just are not getting the message. Steve should have been axed for what he did. First time incident would have been a hefty fine but this is inicsusable. And people on here are going easy on his, yet he could have killed someone.

  6. Well we're slowly creeping into the time when footy is back and conversation is starting to pick up on Demonland again :)

For a bit of fun thought it would be timely to get people's thoughts/tips on who they think will be the recipients of the key awards for 2008... I know it's early to make a call but for the sake of passing some time I've had a crack at who I think below.

MFC Best and Fairest: Brock McLean

MFC best team player: Nathan Jones

MFC best clubman: Daniel Bell i believe Green

MFC most improved: Simon Buckley I recon Warnock

    MFC Most Consistent: Brock McLean

MFC Best First Year player: Addam Maric

    MFC Leading Goalkicker: Russell Robertson

Most votes in Sandringham’s best and fairest by a Melbourne player: Chris Johnson

    Thats all i disagree with

  7. Would Garland ever be good enough to play FB. Frawley is the suggested name to play there and i have little faith Carroll will be there in 3 yrs time. The prime issue with the backline i believe is to try and free up Rivers to be a rover and loose man in defence. If Garland could ever be a FB it would allow Frawley to take CHB and rivers to be the loose man or play on the wing. Otherwise whats the chance Garland can take CHB allowing frawley to play FB. Would he ever be good enough to take either CHB or FB do people think?

  8. Why do you bother to barrack for the club, unless you know the how, where and wherefores of the decisions made you should stop carrying on like a spoilt child, you don't have to like it, but it has been made, so don't get rude about it.

I am angry about the decision but to date i have backed everything DB has done. My phrasing may not have been correct but it does make me angry a player like Green or davey who had a great year playing injured are not in the group and for that it does make me sick. I think of all Miller has done compared to the number of other players who would love to be given the oportunity to be in the group. Few people could honestly say they applaud the decision that was made. I love the MFC and have bought membership each year. I attend as many games as possible but working in hospitality it can be tough. Whether or not you agree with what i have said, i will continue to barrack for the club. And if saying "it makes me sick" is concidered rude then i appoligise for that. A lot of what i say is using words the community may not and for that i appoligise.

  9. Makes you sick?

Not getting a fraction carried away?

Can we leave this crap until the season has started......I'm enjoying the positive mood around the club at the minute, and am looking forward to our 150th year being a big one.

Let's try and keep the lid on the negativity bottle until we really need it!

it does make me sick that miller is in the leadership group. i think people that disagree are kidding themselves. if anyone can say to my face that miller should be in the leadership group then ill appoligise.

  10. Im confused and angry like many. I think neitz should have given away the captancy to a younger player but that doesent really fuss me. Like many Miller and Yze are a shock and as far as i can tell completly unjustified. Yze has been the heart and soul of the club for years but in the past 2 seasons has not put his full effort in, shown by not running after oposition with the ball, going to the ground too easily. No need to elabourate on Miller. Just shows how m,uch DB loves him. It makes me sick

  11. I think a better way than the lottery system is to have the draft picks chosen after the end of round 15. That is that at round 15, teams get draft picks based on where they are on the ladder at that point in time. This emiminates the chances of teams knowing they wont make the finals after round 15 and choosing to tank. I think this system could really work but AD still remains defiant that tanking doesent happen. What an idiot

  12. This statement defies comprehension. If a player has no redeeming features in your opinion, how could a new coach change anything?

Easy, DB sees something that i dont. I dont see anything that will make CJ a good footballer. He has ordinary decision making skills and skills. DB possibly sees something i dont and i accept that otherwise i would be a coach

  13. a resurgent Ricky will restrict Chris' opportunities this year - they are both competing for a similar position.

Good. I think CJ is one of the worst players, actually the worst player on our senior list (of players we have seen obviously). He is very very ordinary in all football aspects but im glad we kept him for one year. DB might be able to teach him and if he does, it will be incredible

  14. If the MFC are ever going to challange for a flag then i cant see PJ in the backline. Although he has height and played a few quarters at an OK rate in the position we must realise there are new kids coming through, potentually 3 more defenders (???) and i could never see PJ being a good defender

  15. You probably already know this, in fact it may have been you that mentioned it originally, but apparently a few weeks ago Chris Connelly went on SEN and was asked about Barts. He mentioned that his ankle injury is going to be Tingay-like in the way they manage it.

Would it be presumptuous to suggest it's related to this? Happy to be corrected, but I've always made the assumption that this is why we've not been hearing much about the kid.

it almost makes me cry. I think Barts could be an awsome player but this may just screw up his career. Very dissopointing news...i hadnt heard this before too

  16. I am new to this website , a young demon supporter and as a result i have never seen a flag

But then again you dont have to be young to have never seen a flag

Asking, where will Melbourne finish in 2008? my guess is the bottom of the 8

    Here is my good/bad analysis

New coach bailey - Good .. young blood

Neitz still at the club - Bad .. worst captain in the AFL

TJ gone - Good .. injury riddled & inconsistent

no byron - Good .. great in 2006 but lost his game in 07

mclean needs to have a good year

White still as ruckman - Bad .. getting old and worn .. under the pump in 07

The Fixture - bad .. we play WCE , gellong , port and kangas twice

I dont think TJ was injury riddled, i think he got too big a head to play. We see it time and time again that the top draftees fail to deliver compared to the 2nd or 3rd round. TJ was my fav player, I started following melbourne after i moved home in queensland (where i followed rugby) and used to love the skill he would dish up. But as time has gone on, he still struggles to make any real mark in a game. Each good game or preseason i would tell myself 'this is the year he will deliver' but he didnt. He was tagged week in week out, not an excuse but something that needs recognising. With the loss of TJ, Jones or Brook will be tagged, i believe Brock will get the majority of the attention. This will take time for him to be able to cope with (if he can) meaning i think we wont see the brock that people suggest we will.

Bailey has made the right decisions so far off and on the field however who knows what he will be like long term. For all we know he could be a shocking coach on game day but this will take time to see.

I have never really liked neitz and dont believe he should captain however i do appreciate the importance of him being in the side. Thoes who watched the geelong elimination final in 06? would see this. He is a great forward but i do think its time to pass the captancy off

White will struggle me thinks this year. His body really slowed up towards the end of last year and i think bailey will give every oportunity to play the others too.

The fixture is great for a team that finished bottom 4 i believe. we travel 5 times i think??? which is an ok number.

At the end of the day i think we will come between 10 and 13. Bailey will be playing some kids who will obviously make mistakes, some enough to cost us games but im fed up of finishing 7th and 8th each year so even if we come 16 this year and i see some improvement then ill be happy. Would like to see Bruce and or Green traded too but thats not for another 10 months
