I really like your Point about the PP not being a gift mate on another comment mate, this is the point in think the other AFL clubs and alot of the public are missing is that it's not a gift, it's a tool of equalization, is the comp even at the moment? no, the club named after the capitol city of Victoria ( the home of AFL football )is not AFL standard, that's a disaster for everyone involved, every team we play loses money, every game we play loses interest from supporters, members, the general public, we have become a joke. It was only earlier this year we were being seriously compared to Fitzroy, to me the obvious solution would be to install a stronger government for the club to get things on track ( check ) sign a premiership coach to give the supporters and members some hope/ show the football world we are serious about improving ( check ) in the event we are granted a priority pick we have declared we will trade it, giving all 17 clubs an equal opportunity to get their hands on a gun key forward they otherwise may not have had the opportunity to even consider, i think this is the sticking point that might well get us over the line, Boyd is going straight back into the mix. The other clubs could say but they were investigated for tanking for 7 months in the last year or so, i'd hope the AFL hold firm and say they were found not guilty, that's not a factor in this decision, the best interests of the competition are however.

I understand the point you're making mate and i agree but the coach, the bail out package ( reportedly ) only allows us to use 400k on the head coach if we choose, so best case scenario we are paying him 1 mil a year out of our own pockets anyway, he said no to brisbane and he wanted to coach us for reasons other than the money, pats on the back to MFC for landing their man, i don't think the other clubs should be too upset with that. the bail out package, i can more understand this frustration, North nearly left for the Gold coast because of debt yet we get a bail out package, however, if we become a powerful club again sooner rather than later, a home game of Melbourne vs North Melbourne could draw a crowd of 60k rather than 20k and make them alot more money anyway. i also think alot of it is the other clubs know we were guilty, and know because we were publicly named not guilty they can't use that arguement which is why they just come across as sooking a little bit in my opinion. but as you said if we get offered a priority pick that would be great for us, i don't think the other clubs should factor into this decision at all, as long as they sit down consider our record, consider our position, consider the benifits of a strong MFC and consider the only real opposition to this is the other clubs not being happy about us getting handouts, i think the right decision will be made.

Anyone know if Taylor Adams has hinted where he'd like to go publicly? or if he is open to coming to Melbourne? all i have seen is that we have had one chat to him and made a substancial offer, but that was a while ago and not heard alot since.

I don't see us playing Jolly and Jamar together unless Clarks foot is no good, Clark is a high quality ruckman as well as forward so the only way the Jolly thing could work is if he comes on board as a playing coach to help the culture shift, again he'll cost nothing, provide some on and off field experience and all of that, i would have been looking to trade Jamar anyway personally.

Who will be worse next year? Saints or us?
Ted Lasso replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
we have alot of unfulfilled talent, who knows what we could do next year under Roos, we might fly up the ladder much quicker than people expect I'd be surprised if we aren't a much improved team next year, but i can't see where the improvement is going to come from for the saints, Jack Steven is the only genuine A grade player coming through. -
I still don't understand the basis of the argument against us getting a Priority pick, 1. the other clubs are losing money every time they play us, a PP will get us back up asap 2. we were found not guilty of tanking officially, that can't be used against us in any way. 3. 34 wins in 7 years, 1 against a top 8 team, the numbers back up our case. 4. if Roos gets some good form out of Trengove, Blease, Watts and Tapscott we haven't wasted all of these picks, we moved Gysberts on, and Scully left because of the AFL monster in western Sydney and it's huge pay rise. 5. we have stated we would trade pick 1 if we get it, it would be going straight back into the mix, if GWS get it it's not certain that it would. i don't understand why North Melbourne people in particular are sooking so much about this, us being a better side sooner rather than later is ultimately in the best interests of the entire comp. this media circus they are causing to try and cloud the fact that on the points above we should absolutely get one with enough negativity towards the idea is absolutely bringing the game into disrepute imo.

Kid needs to settle down with this good form or he won't be there at our 3rd round pick.
-
I wouldn't be upset if we offered him a two year deal, these blokes know exactly what a good culture looks like.
-
4 year deal is just crazy, 2 year deal, one as a player one as a coach and see how he goes, can always re-sign, can't be breaking contracts if he turns out to be a dud.
-
Haha yeah that was really just a random guess of someone who might be on the move, would much rather Zak jones, even a mature age player from the VFL or something might be the go at that pick.
-
I don't think we have room for any more power forwards.

Paul Roos Brett Allison Ben Mathews Jade Rawlings Brett Kirk Adam Simpson or Scott Burns looks pretty handy to me.

Planning on not getting a priority pick #2: trade to the Giants for Taylor adams and pick #10 ( not only is Taylor Adams an instant boost for our midfield but he is a great long term prospect, pick number 10 gives us more trade currency which i like ) #10: Trade to Adelaide Crows with Luke Tapscott ( SA boy ) for Rory Sloane, i feel they are desperate for a top 10 pick and the right deal will convince them, especially if Sloane likes the offer we table for him and makes him want to come home. #20: I feel one of the more high profile draft hopefuls will slide through to this pick, maybe Crouch, Sheed or someone like that, going to guess it's Matt Crouch in this case and Mfc pull off what i strongly believe will be a huge steal. #38: the obvious choice here is Zak Jones, i wish he would stop with these best on ground performances so he doesn't get taken before this, but at this point in time i feel he will be there at #38, if he isn't i'd look at Dayle Garlett or offering this pick to Essendon for Leyroy Jetta who i feel Paul Roos could get some really good football out of. #56: Upgrade Mitch Clisby, i have been really impressed with mitch, think he has the capacity like dean terlich to play more and more of a role in the midfield if that's how we choose to develop him, either way he has shown enough to earn a place on the senior list imo. Other Trades: i feel Mark Jamar to the Giants for Anthony Miles is a win for both parties, i believe both are around that 3rd round value and an experienced ruckman would appeal to them in the way a good young mid struggling to break into a strong midfield appeals to us. Delisted Free Agents: Daniel Cross, Darren Jolly and Mav Wellar, i am really happy the club has had talks with both Cross and Jolly, at first i thought it was a bad decision and their best football was past them, but both, fitness permitting will be in our best 22, will have a huge impact off the field, add the locker room leadership we have been missing for years now and add quite abit to the cultural shift we are trying to implement. Mav Wellar i feel has talent and because he costs nothing i don't mind rolling the dice, even if he doesn't come on he would be better than a 4th round draft pick or something like that.

Must get a legit crumbing forward this free agency period
Ted Lasso replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sam blease, neville Jetta, dean kent, michael evans, or draft dayle garlett i feel as though we have players who could play that role, mids who can rotate forward would be my priority over forwards who can rotate through the middle. -
I have no issue at all with Jack having a look around to see if there are better options for him, wasn't a huge fan of his attitude on the footy show, but that's really the fault of the club and his manager for allowing him to go on the show when he was clearly undecided, don't buy the talk he is only not going to Carlton because all the money is going to dale thomas, i think Roosy has sat him down, explained his plan for him, how important he is and convinced him to stay on, well done to the club for getting the right coach in place to hold onto these sorts of blokes.
-
They say the ruckman is the most important player on the ground, if Jolly can add to our side in that area i am all for it, but i'd be hoping it's only a one year contract

Well done MFC -
I'd be thrilled with an outcome of out pick 2 pick 20 Mark Jamar in Daniel cross ( DFA ) Rory sloane ( trade for pick 2, would like some steak knives too but don't think they'd allow that ) Taylor Adams (offer long term deal and convince to walk to draft if not traded for pick 20 ) Anthony Miles ( trade for mark jamar)

Quality player, we should absolutely make a phone call, but paying the way overs i believe it would take to get him in red and blue probably isn't the best idea.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS
Ted Lasso replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
there is absolutely no risk to him mate, he come free as a free agent if he gets injured or form is off he will still have a great impact off the field, we haven't had a bloke with his experience since junior really so i'll be very annoyed if we don't offer him a deal -
Backing Geelong to beat Hawthorn again next week. and Freo to win their first flag, just in time for a very deserving Matty Pavlich

I'm just going to throw it out there... not having a great first year doesn't mean for one second Toumpas won't be a great player for us, Wines has had a great year, that's fantastic for him but there have been many players who have great first years and don't get any better lets wait til they have each played 100 games and judge them.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS
Ted Lasso replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
We aren't saying Cross is the ONLY midfielder we should pickup we might well pick up a Swallow, or Sloane, an adams to go with them, Anthony miles should be on the radar, but Cross is a godsend in terms of all we need to effect a cultural change, he will play round 1 2014, and he'll have an impact, we will be a better side for having him, his off field influence over pre season and the 2014 season will be huge, we need someone to show the young kids what to do, and what it takes to be successful at AFL level as midfielders. -
Hope our boys are watching Port and seeing things can turn very quickly! really hope they get up!

Was a hard working no nonsense type player, reckon he will be a very handy pickup for us!
