I understand what you're saying but my question is who? Scharenberg is a flanker who could play midfield ( Roos said he wants genuine midfielders, no more flankers ) Kelly is just as light as Aish then you look at guys like Freeman, Crouch and Sheed who might all slip out of the top 10 or even top 15, so it's really hard to suggest who we should take if not Aish personally i'd take Matt Crouch because he attacks the ball like Jack Viney, is built like his brother and is a contested ball clearance machine and ball magnet, everything we need, having said that if we can set up some sort of trade with GWS that see's us getting Taylor Adams and pick 10 for pick 2 and using pick 10 on Crouch I would be absolutely thrilled, that gets us two very hard nuts around the ball.

THE DRAFT: TAC CUP FUTURE STARS ROLLING DRAFT
Ted Lasso replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
If we're looking at inside mids i'd still personally rate Zak Jones ahead of Dunstan, if we lose Sylvia the compo may mean we get both which would be nice. -
I had a chat with my friend who Is involved with the Lions last night, and while he said he isn't certain he said the whispers going around the club are that Adam Simpson has pipped Neil Craig and got the gig. keeping fingers crossed that Sumich gets the Eagles gig and we lock in Scotty Burns.

So, where to from here with pick 2?
Ted Lasso replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I still feel there is a lot of truth to come out yet with regards to the players we're talking to, any of the following deals would be good imo pick 2 - Rory Sloane pick 2 - David Swallow pick 2, Mark Jamar - Taylor Adams, Anthony Miles, pick 10 pick 2 - Scott selwood, pick 25 Draft: any of : Aish, Scharenberg, Crouch, Sheed, Kelly, Billings, ( i'd back Roos to get that decision right.) -
When Do We Find Out About the Priority Pick?

over the next 7 years if they win less than 32 games they're welcome to apply. -

Just what was on the AFL website, I sorta figured an article like that being released at this point in time may be the AFL's way of getting people ready for what is probably going to happen with the PP. -
When Do We Find Out About the Priority Pick?
Ted Lasso replied to Grimseyisgod's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think GWS Should come into consideration as well, they're the only team below us, but they have as much young talent or more than any AFL list has ever seen, they're going to be a gun side unless something goes awfully pear shaped, to give them yet another key forward that they in all honesty don't need is abit strange Pick 1 gets us back up and makes everyone more money as soon as next year, but for GWS it probably doesn't make any difference at all to where they're going. Stkilda imo will be in a worse position than we were/ are in a couple of years, and because they aren't named Melbourne and have the same marketing potential as us I wouldn't be surprised if we see another situation where the AFL is looking at moving a Club or Merging clubs. -
Jumbo, I can assure you that is a result of my terrible cropping skills rather than anything else haha, not really game to change it as last time I was pulled up for changing my avatar far too often haha!

Good size about the kid, really hope he gets picked up for both of your sake sure every club needing mids would be having a look

When Do We Find Out About the Priority Pick?
Ted Lasso replied to Grimseyisgod's topic in Melbourne Demons
if they aren't going to give us pick 1 give us pick 9 and 19, mid 1st round and start of second round. pick 9 being the pick Essendon would have had anyway, doesn't have any bearing on any bottom 8 sides. give us the condition we have to trade pick 9 and if the AFL has any balls send a clear message to the other clubs that this has nothing to do with them, at some point they might want/need similar help. -
I believe he is capable of giving a Brownlow a shake in a top 8 team, let's hope we get back up there ASAP so Nate is seen as being as good as he actually is by the rest of the comp

When Do We Find Out About the Priority Pick?
Ted Lasso replied to Grimseyisgod's topic in Melbourne Demons
Can PJ and co lobby some sort of appeal if we don't get one? half way through this year we were facing a ten year turnaround and the next Fitzroy, what all of a sudden makes us not in need of something? we have won 1 more game since that point and even that win wasn't in convincing fashion. -

Reckon you'd bundle that and our second round pick so 19 and 21 and offer it to Essendon or Adelaide and see how bad they want draft picks? might snag a couple of decent players or go to the draft and look for hard working mids. -
I think it's a misunderstanding of culture that causes those issues, we don't stand for much as a club, Roosy will be keen to establish a hard running, team first culture, Heath Shaw and Dusty to me don't fit the team first thing, having grunt and abit of mongrel is great, infact it's exactly what we want right now, but that needs to be within the team first mantra.
-
Both good players, my concern is the effect they would have on the culture we're trying to build, Heath Shaw is on the outer at Collingwood because he has screaming matches with Collingwoods captain on field, and Dustin Martin is considering leaving a club that's well on the rise to chase extra dollars even though they have provided him huge off field support. would much rather just get Swallow or Sloane and then draft Zak jones who could play the same role of heath Shaw off half back or be a clone of Nathan jones in the middle. Culture first, team first, success will follow.
-
Our Captain in 2014, we should really look at cloning him, or just drafting his brother.
-
Gold coast offer us David Swallow for pick 2 tomorrow and i'll say yes without a second thought, only one reason I wouldn't do that trade is if Rory Sloane is on the table and even then i'd seriously consider it, kid hasn't shown a lot yet but he has upper A grade potential, and he would already be in our top 3-4 players. Trenners will be fine, Roos will give him a role and get his confidence back up, at the very least work out what's going on with his running and see if some ground can be made up there, a full pre season and he might be a totally different player, as might david Swallow.
-
i'd say the same about Jack Trengove, Jack Watts and Jeremy Howe, doesn't mean they won't develop into three of the better players in the comp.
-
That's fine, but Rory Sloane is as good a player as Dustin Martin and not terrible on Culture, i'm very confident if we keep dangling the prospect of James Aish in front of the crows they will come to the party.

THE DRAFT: TAC CUP FUTURE STARS ROLLING DRAFT
Ted Lasso replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sounds like we will get an end of 1st round PP now so that leaves us with 2,19,21 and somewhere around the 20-25 mark if Sylvia leaves. Pick 2 for Swallow pick 19- Zak Jones pick 21- Luke Dunstan pick 25- Blake Acres -
2014 MFC Recruiting Guesses not facts
Ted Lasso replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree, when push comes to shove, Adelaide will offer Sloane in my opinion, they would kill to get their hands on Aish. and although some consider it overs, i'd be happy to pay that to get an experienced gun mid like Sloane on board. -
I reckon he'll be there at 20, it's abit like Brodie Grundy, teams will have been looking at certain players for the first round all year and planning around that, I reckon all the teams will be hoping he slips to the second round and will pick up the blokes like Sheed who may slide abit with picks 10-20
-
Maybe so, but we are trying to build a culture so we can't afford to roll the dice yet while there are safer options going, wait til we're a strong team again, then we can look at risks like this.
-
you'd have to think it would cross his mind? haha surely he'd have mates constantly joking about it and stuff
-
The manager is probably not helping but i haven't heard many good things about Dusty, even the Richmond members i know are happy for him to just walk so for me it's not that surprising noone wants him, he needs to sort out his management quick smart. if Roosy feels he can sort him out he is a very talented player, infact i'd go as far as saying he is as talented as anyone on our list.
