That's the thing, the forwards crowd the forward line to try and create space, but if they do force a turnover there is no space for Hogan so we don't score easily from it.
-
Agree'd! he looked very good, not as good as Oliver but i don't think we'd have any regrets if we did pick Parish over Oliver

If i were in charge the changes i'd make are... Bring Lynden Dunn back in right away, we need his experience and leadership down back desperately. Move Salem onto a Wing/half forward, he isn't a great defender and we really lack quality delivery inside 50 Move Hogan to CHF, his mobility is his strength so let him use it. Play one of Pedo/Frost/Dawes in the goal square with the simple role of either mark the ball, or bring it to ground and give Garlett/Kennedy/Kent a chance. Move Vince back into the midfield for more of the time, yes we're building depth but he has just won the bluey and we saw last year, he can kick long goals and delivers the ball well inside 50, we need Watts, Vince and Salem delivering the ball inside, not bombing it long. Bring in Billy Stretch, he is consistent with his effort, uses the ball well and has the pace and outside class the side desperately lacks, especially while trying to move the ball faster. have a team rule that if a young player isn't 100% fit he doesn't play, Brayshaw was clearly underdone and is a class player, we need to make sure he's right to go so we don't overcook him, same with Petracca, Oliver, Weiderman add good ball use, speed and decision making to the key aspects we're looking for in recruits for next year. play on at every opportunity, the faster we get the ball into Hogan, Watts and Garlett the better we're going to score, only go to the top of the goal score if there is no other option, always prefer high % inside 50's

I have mentioned on here before, my best friend is good friends with Jesse and i caught up with her this morning and she said he thinks he's " overthinking it" and forgetting to do the basic things well, getting a bit frustrated it's not happening for him while still understanding that's because he's not doing the basics like leading hard and so on. The coaches are telling him just keep it simple, try and get to as many contests as possible and try not to be outmarked, if he brings it to the ground it gives Jeffy a chance. we saw in the last quarter against the Giants how good a player he is, but you'll notice there, he is much better when the forward line isn't packed and we're delivering it to him not bombing it on top of his head.

Agree with basically all of this. Tommy Mac will be fine imo Hogan is suffering under the weight of media scrutiny and pressure of being the " Great white hope" club could do more to protect him.. he did three interviews last week. Tyson i rate but don't think he works hard enough yet, when that clicks he'll be a good player for us Salem, i see as a mid, i don't like him as a defender Watts has been great all pre season but if we move the ball like we did yesterday we give him very little chance. Gawn gets hitouts but not many to real advantage
-
I think the two things i have learned from the first two rounds are, 1. the % of fitness a player needs before being selected is now going to be much higher, underdone players will become liabilities under the interchange cap. 2. the days of young players playing all 23 games are probably over, even Hogan is going to need to be rested this year imo
-
Roosy gave Matt Jones a huge pump up last week, there is no chance he'd drop him after one average game.

It's built on an indian burial ground, but don't tell anyone, it explains the way we have performed over the last ten year...
-
Totally agree, and i think it will help his confidence a lot to simplify his role, just get him to lead hard all day and take as many marks as he can, it wouldn't be easy being a bloke with huge media speculation, only in his second year and having the pressure of basically having to kick 50% of the scores of the side for us to win, gotta feel for him a bit in that sense, but his sooky attitude doesn't help. I'd probably just play one of Frost or Pedo out of full forward and get Hogan up the ground

Dom Tyson needs to stop talking and/or get in the bin
Ted Lasso replied to jmac's topic in Melbourne Demons
Did he run over your dog? i reckon there are about 30 blokes on our list that are more of a worry than Dom -
Time for Roos to give up Match Day duties?
Ted Lasso replied to Redjacket's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think there is a huge case at the MFC of believing their own hype, Brayshaw is the one i feel sorry for, i think we overcooked him last year and we bought him in clearly underdone this week. Jesse Hogan to be is someone who knows how talented he is but his work rate isn't anywhere near where it should be, which i think it was last year. Tom Mcdonald had another shocker, beaten totally but couldn't do anything on offense either. Max Gawn wins a lot of hit outs but so few to any real advantage, that's what he needs to start doing before he'll reach the heights of Goldstein and Mumford -
No, it's not, i think he will play this year but no rush.

It doesn't matter who sits in the box if the players aren't in it mentally and the effort isn't there, 90% of what went wrong yesterday lies between the ears of the players. -
I think we need to have a serious look at our forward set up, they're just bombing away, i am certain we'll be a three goal at least better team the moment we stop that and start lowering our eyes, our forwards leading occasionally would help, the only time Hogan seems to lead is when he see's Watts get the ball.
-
Anyone else get the sense we will be talking about this down the track a few years when a few of these blokes are diagnosed with Cancer or something and it's all proven to be on the back of this? it's a sickening situation all round, and extremely dissapointing the amount of public sympathy this club is getting.

I don't think today was a reflection of much more than one side desperate to win to prove the footy world wrong and a side who has had this penciled in as a win for weeks and thought it would just happen, like it did against the Giants, we don't have the talent to bring any less then 110% effort every week if we want to win 8 plus games this year, we didn't bring the effort and we got taught a lesson by a side who wanted it more, yes the umpiring was rubbish but the team and a heap of individuals are just not working hard enough at the moment.
-
Got a big test next week, and i fully expect a much improved performance, if we play like we did today, we will get smashed by 100 plus
-
Out: Kent iN: ANB i reckon the team got a bit pig headed today and it as dissapointing as it is we are still 4-1 so far, worth giving them a chance to make up for it. Kent needs to be shown an effort like today won't be tolerated from a player with his talent
-
I do think match day Goodwin is a better coach and the team would get more benefit from a setup like the NAB cup, Roos overseeing rather then calling the shots
-
I'd bring in ANB, STRETCH and Dunn
-
I rate Dom, yes he is making some silly mistakes, but he's certainly not alone there, but at least he's getting the ball.
-
I don't like to make this excuse, and it certainly doesn't excuse how bad we were but the umpiring was complaint worthy, it was clearly bias, and the difference in my opinion
-
What the heck is going on with Jesse Hogan? lazy, sooky, not leading, he is not even close to the player he was last year.
-
I dare say there will be some changes for next week.

[censored] it's hard supporting this club..
