WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
Ted Lasso replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
The big difference being that a year out within an AFL club means a rehab program within the four walls of the club with day to day coaching by some of the best fitness staff around, he's missed that for the better part of 12 months, while i'm sure Mission has given him his program ect it's definitely not going to be the same as actually working with him every day. Time will tell, i was against the recruitment of Melksham at the time and still very unsure it was the right move, especially given what we gave up but time will tell. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
Ted Lasso replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's a whole different challenge but we clearly recruited Jake with the idea in mind that he'd play off half back and essentially play the role Jayden Hunt is playing, now with Hibberd likely coming on board, Salem mostly playing that role and Hunt playing great footy we have to re-think where he's going to play. I personally think he has the attributes to be a pressure forward, he's quick, creative and a good tackler and i really think that high half forward role is one he could really do well, but obviously it'll be interesting. I personally have my concerns about all these Essendon guys, not only have they had a year off, they've had a year off the AFL system totally and it's not something that they will move forward from overnight, very difficult to replicate the AFL enviornment and everything training wise, so the transition back into the side may take a little longer than some are expecting -
The worst thing about the Pies is when you compare them to Melbournes footy department it's like Amateur vs Pro's they grab any well know assistant regardless of needs and strengths, ironically a similar sort of plan to our old draft high picks and it'll just happen theory Bucks, Sando, Harvey, Burns, Rocca, it's not a great mix. Goodwin senior coach Macca head of development Jennings Stratergy and opposition Rawlings highly rated backling coach Mathews highly rated midfield coach we recruit people to fill a role, they recruit the big name people and bend the role around them. and i strongly suspect this is a big part of why they've consistently gone down hill under Bucks.

It's sad because he's so consistently in the media for saying stupid things, Adam Goodes, Caro recently and others and it's like he doesn't realize that he's the problem. proof will be in the pudding though on this matter, the Dees have gone up every year for the last 4 while the Pies have gone downhill every single year and all the pressure in the world is on their club next year.

This isn't meant to be a pot shot at Neeldy and i hope it's not take like that, but the difference between Goodwin and Neeld when they took over is so obvious! Goodwin is just so sure of himself and know's he can do the role, Neeld seemed a bit more as though he hoped he could do the role and that is clearly a huge benefit of the succession plan I reckon it will become a more and more common part of footy moving into the future

You want an experienced player who'd be clearly best 22 for 1-2 years and then move into a coaching role there is one person who'd be even better than Thompson, Dal Santo and Harvey and that's Matty Boyd All Australian this year, great leader would give us great experience and leadership down back where we desperatey need it if the Bulldogs can't get a deal done with him i would love to see us make a phone call.

How impressive is Goody!?
-
It hurts to say. I hate Essendon more than Collingwood.
-
From what i've seen/heard next years draft looks significantly stronger than this years so i am extremely comfortable with missing this years first round if it means giving up next years, the only way i can see us realisitically geting a first rounder this year is if Hogan walks out.
-
I really like the idea, he's won a best and fairest and been an All Australian in the last couple of years but his knee has halted him a little but if he can get going again he'd be a huge pick up, experienced leader and would take a heap of pressure of Tommy Mac, i'd certainly be very keen if he was interested and at the right price.
-
Nathan Hrovat is rumoured to be looking for a new club, he's highly rated by Macca who drafted him and would come very much on the cheap, and while he's probably not best 22 he's won a rising star nomination and has some ability, i personally think he'd be as good an investment as most 3rd-4th round picks and would be well worth considering, i've also heard the Dogs want an experienced key defender for next season and Dunn is on the list, while he isn't their first preference i wonder if there is any chance of swapping them over.
-
I think the Suns will clearly want an established player for O'meara, are the Hawks really willing to give up someone like Shiel or Issac Smith? I suspect they'll offer their first pick and someone like Hartung
-
I think we'll see a significant difference, Roosy wasn't really a senior coach, more a football dept coach, we now have our house in order and a coach with the energy to invest in being a full time long term senior coach and it's that bloody exciting

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Ted Lasso replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
My info is different and from a source i very much trust but it's not really relevant because Prestia will be a Tiger. Very happy to have Oliver, really think he could be the best of our young midfielders -

we definitely chased Prestia and Dangerfield, a trade not coming together doesn't mean we didn't try, or the club wasn't confident. we were VERY confident we'd get Prestia until the godfather offer from the Tigers. -

I'm not interested in getting into your issues with GNF's posting, i enjoy his posts, if others don't that's fine. the way he worded it made it sound to me as though if that eventuates Fyfe would be on board with moving. -

I would say it's far more likely that Hogan just hasn't made up his mind, if Hogan had told Freo he wants to go there it would be all over the press, Freo are desperate for something to sell to their members after this year. -
Realistic Trade Week Results (Wish List)
Ted Lasso replied to GawnWithTheWind's topic in Melbourne Demons
Pretty Dramatically. would expect we'd be adding a couple of first rounders and a player potentially and that would give us far more scope to trade If this happened and we got Freo's 2017 first rounder it could be an okay result because next years draft crop is supposed to be strong and i'd expect them to finish bottom 6 again -
I get what you mean, they're just extremely rare, there are 17 other clubs who would love that type of player and maybe 2-3 league wide I really think we just need to invest in Petracca and he'll fill that role for us.

Alex Neal Bullen and pick 45 to the Port Adelaide for pick 27 Pick 26 to Essendon for Michael Hibberd. Pick 27 for Eric Mackenzie Col Garland & future second round pick to Brisbane for pick 24 ish ( future pick Collingwood traded for James Aish ) Jetta Mackenzie O'mac Hibberd Mcdonald Hunt Salem Tyson Vince Petracca Hogan Kent Watts Weiderman Garlett Gawn Jones Viney Brayshaw, Oliver, Harmes, Melksham -
If the Suns think he's worth two top 10 picks then i will be very interested to see what the Hawks think they have to give up for him.
-
I would understand the dissapointment from their perspective if he left now, they've been extremely patient with him over a long period of time given his injury history and he's been paid extremely well the entire time, i do think what Brayshaw said was a reflection of that frustration and probably a good indication that Wells is either out the door already or they strongly suspect he will be very soon.
