  1. Our backline is so lacking in options it's not funny If Hawkins gets on top of May what's plan B? Lever? undersized and not good one on one and loses his best weapon by playing that way. I get the desire to get Lochart into the side, but i'm not sure if he's going to be able to play that role on Ablett as effectively as Nev could
  2. The hard thing is to some degree it's less about the people actually believing the hurtful things people are saying, than it is about them trying to be trolls and get attention, so the more attention you give those people the more you feed them and the more extreme you're likely to get. genuine racists need to be called out but it's hard to tell the difference
  3. I think they'll try and go with a big body midfield to dominate Geelong in that area, so AVB plays for me. i wouldn't be surprised if Brown comes in for someone though. we are really lacking a target with TMAC out of form, not sure who would go out.
  4. For what it's worth i have us ranked between 7th and 12th I feel the list still has some significant holes, i think our football department overrates some of our players and i don't really feel like we have a game style that stacks up at the moment, I feel our coaching is a little bit reactionary and don't see the same development of players that we had, had under Paul Roos for me the best 22 looking forward to our next potential premiership side is ??????? Steven May Jake Lever Christian Salem ??????? ???????? Ed Langdon Clayton Oliver ???????? Bailey Fritsch Tom McDonald ?????? Kozzie Pickett ?????????? ????????? Max Gawn Jack Viney Christian Petracca I/c: Angus Brayshaw, James Harmes, ??????? ????????
  5. I haven't started a topic so thought i'd throw one out there! Where do we think the club is at in terms of it's premiership window? do we have the talent to challenge but are underperforming, has our football department overrated our list very curious to hear peoples thoughts on this
  6. I've heard he's not interested in a senior coach but if Goodwin was moved on and we were going to go for an untried assistant i'd be going for Blake Caracella.
  7. Jake Levers strength is as a third tall defender who peels off and intercepts. Not an easy thing to do when May is the only other legitimate key defender we're playing.
  8. Season over then, surely.
  9. I think there are definitely players on our list that we should be worried about, but i don't think Jake Lever is one of them. Kid is a gun and the more continuity he gets in his game, the better he is going to get.
  10. I think to beat Essendon you have to stop their rebound game. for us to win it's going to be so important for guys like Melksham, Hannan and Fritsch to impact the scoreboard and limit the ability of Saad and McKenna to run off and impact the game. if we can do that, i think we can back ourselves to win the midfield battle and limit their scoring options enough to win. BUT we also have to lower our eyes going forward, if we bomb long Hurley and Hooker will absolutely destroy us. So i don't mind the selections providing we lower our eyes and those guys can get involved for 4 quarters
  11. So much is going to change before the end of the year, impossible to get a read. whats i would say is Weideman, Oscar, ANB, Spargo, in particular need to step up and cement a spot or they're a chance to be moved on at years end
  12. I personally hope we play Smith (assuming he is indeed playing) up forward! thought he showed really promising signs up forward!
  13. Innovation is important, but only when a club has the basics of the game absolutely nailed, and my read on 2019 is as much as injuries killed us, they also caused us to make the mistake of trying to go with the same gameplan without the personnel to execute it effectively rather than move back to just focusing on the fundementals of the game. I sincerely hope this is a massive lesson for Goodwin that will make him a better coach. you can only innovate from a solid foundation of basic football fundementals. if you don't have that, you lose your game style totally and that's what happened in 2019
  14. they simply have to play Oscar, because Levers really strength is being that third tall intercept player. he's not a great one on one player so we i think need to play to our strengths there. ground level players will be less impactful if Lever and May are marking the ball down there. I quite like the idea of Lochart playing as well. provides a bit more speed down there. My guess would be Jetta May Lever Salem Oscar Lochart
  15. Gut feel i have is that Goodwin tries too hard to be a bit innovative and stay ahead of the curve, and last year inparticular moved away from just doing the basics of the game well. Being innovative is important and all the great coaches are like that but only when the team has the basics of the game absolutely nailed which i don't think this group does yet. Hopefully last year was the lesson he needed to learn to take the next step as coach but the spotlight is firmly on him this year, another bad year and i think the club might have to start thinking about if he really is the best long term option.
  16. Sounds like there is some chance that Kossie, Bedford, Jackson, Rivers and Bennell all may play. quite like the idea of Bennell, Kossie and Bedford all buzzing around the forward line with TMac, Jackson and Melksham
  17. I watched a game of us playing against Essendon a few years back, when Goodwin was still the coach there, i think Roosys first year here? Anyways it was the same story as Goodwin here, Essendon dominated the stats, huge number of inside 50's with few scores and no real system besides bomb it long and hope someone marks it Essendon stats wise you'd think won by 80 points and they lost the game.
  18. He's giving away a bit of height on Cripps but Harmes definitely has Cripps with speed and endurance. it would be brave but Harmes could be used as an attacking option if he picks smart times to run off
  19. Really highlights how important on field success is going to be over the next 5-6 years. some of that pain can be mitigated by extra revenue from deep finals pushes, especially this season if crowds do return for the latter part of the season. I feel like this puts Goodwin under the pump, if he's got a full list to pick from there really isn't much excuse for the team not to go pretty well
  20. Probably a bit bold but i'd go with Jetta May Petty Salem Lever Harmes Langdon Petracca Tommlinson Jones McDonald Melksham Fritsch Weideman Pickett Gawn Oliver Viney Brayshaw, Sparrow, Bedford, Hibberd
  21. The biggest thing about this guy is that he is going to take time, all we are going to see from him this year in my opinion is little flashes of brilliance and some not so good moments. 2-3 years time he could be just about anything but we have to give him a pass and let him develop
  22. My guess would be Co captains - Jack Viney, Max Gawn Leadership group: Nev Jetta, Tom McDonald, Jake Lever, Jake Melksham
  23. Minimum 10 wins with the fixture we have a consistent brand, week in, week out regardless of changes Improvement and development from players. pride and passion for the jumper every single week regardless of the result.
  24. I'd say it's Co Captains, will be interesting to see how a fully fit Viney goes this year.
  25. Any of Robertson, Gould, Bianco, Taylor, Rivers, etc
