  1. If prestia wants to come to the dees then it's a no brainer. Outside run is based on mindset, with one's willingness to attack and defend from a stoppage determining ability. For example, sydney (especially jack, hannebery, kennedy and parker) are regarded for their clearance work but embrace the team mantra of working hard and spreading around the ground to get in positions to help the team. I'd rather teach a group of inside mids (jones, vince, viney, brayshaw, vandenberg etc) to spread than get outside types to learn about positioning and body work at stoppages.

Our game style revolves around contested work, so to say prestia wouldn't fit makes no sense. If we went to the draft there's no guarantee the player will turn out to be worth that pick. Always take the proven player than opt for "needs." The reality is that we still need a lot

  2. "But in a late surprise, it is believed the Dees are considering overlooking Petracca in favour of 203cm forward Peter Wright.

Melbourne is expected to decide on Thursday morning on whether it needs another tall goalkicker to partner Jesse Hogan instead of Petracca’s X-factor."

  3. an 18yr old F/F will be no good without high quality ball coming into the forwardline, he's likely take 2 - 3 yrs to be ready.

Pickett on the other hand playing as a quick small could play sometime next year if he's mature enough. not many will match his speed.

as far as talls, there may be others this PSD.... or we can trade one in next trade period. Dawes, Hogan, Pederson, Fitz, Gawn, Jamar, & rookie kids coming thru.

The longer we wait to get a tall the longer we have to wait for them to be ready. mccartin already has the size to compete at afl level so i'd say if we picked him he'd be in for a debut at some point next year. i

I like pickett too but i don't think he's what we need at the moment. we've already got outside runners in toumpas, kent, jkh, garlett, barry, stretch and even lumumba & watts. even if we did pick him i doubt he'd be playing much next year.

hogan and mccartin would benefit our team more with viney, jones, tyson, vince, toumpas, brayshaw, kent, salem, watts, jkh, cross, michie etc feeding it to them than pickett would with an occasional run down the wing.

  4. don't know if i could stand another season with another makeshift forward line. we need blokes capable of dominating their opponents rather than the likes of pedersen, dunn, frawley & fitzpatrick just floating around trying to take the odd grab. without another certain midfielder around the mark, i think mccartin is a must at pick 3.

"And West Coast’s plan to snare nippy South Fremantle goal-shark Jarrod Pickett has hit a snag with expansion franchise Greater Western Sydney or Melbourne set to pounce on the West Australian.

Eagles talent scouts are known to be keen on Pickett with their first pick at 11 after the lightning quick forward played five senior games with South late into this season.

But Pickett has stormed into early draft selection calculations at Melbourne where the Demons hold picks 2 and 3, while the Giants have 4, 6 and 7 after vigorous trading last week landed critical draft positions."

  6. Would anyone be happy if we took Dunstan? Bit of a reach? Slid down the draft order over the year, and I haven't watched enough of any of them to really make a call, but from what I've seen and heard I'd be happy if we took him at Pick 9 provided someone like Scharenberg wasn't also available.

    Edit: typo

Would love Dunstan at the Dees! He may not be the most athletically gifted but he has all the attributes that we need. He is a strong leader that will give 100% all day, he can win his own ball and make good decisions. It's time we stop picking on 'potential' and get players that aren't afraid to put their head over it and get the pill. Seeing Viney and Dunstan in the centre square for the next decade is something that should excite supporters.

Just because Freeman is big and fast doesn't mean he will be anything like Dangerfield. He could easily become a cross between Tapscott and Blease, leaving us once again with a first round flop. It's time we look at those with runs on the board as opposed to those with a higher 'ceiling.' Last year everyone was worried about Wines going to us because they didn't think he had as much improvement in him as others, but now it would be hard to find a single person that wouldn't pick him.

Play it safe Melbourne and go the ready made player rather than the possible once in a generation player.

  7. I think MFC still need skilled players. Andrew Boston from Qld was 100% efficient at the draft combine. He uses it to elite levels on birth right & left sides. Can be wing/high half fwd. Kicked bags of goals in NEAFL.

absolutely agree with you, would be very good on a hff, pushing up the ground as well as pin point passes into thr forward line.

  8. at 72kgs would he get pushed off the ball to easily, probably, i dont recall watching the kid play, so i probably shouldnt pass judgement, anyone thats an AA at any level obviously has talent, i just think the kids to light.

give him time to put on a couple of kg's and he'll be fine. neeldy has stated he is happy to wait on some kids

  9. colquhoun - rebounding defender with great skills

for our 2nd rookie pick i think we should go for emmanuel irra. neeldy says that he doesn't mind having these youngsters develop for a while, and looking at his amazing pace and excellent disposal, i think that if given time to develop, irra could become a very good player as well as providing some serious x factor.

andrew boston should also be heavily looked at

  10. he is an amazing talent and someone i think would be worth the risk. set him up with a good mentor such as rodan, davey or even dawesy and he may be able to turn his life around and become a great player. the change in scenery may also remove him from previous distractions, allowing him to focus more on his football

  11. If Andrew Boston is available i'd love to see us pick him up at 48, he has a great kick and could feature on the outside.

I'd also like us to take a punt on Emmanuel Irra. He may be seen as raw but he has amazing break away speed and a great kick. i reckon if neeld can give him time he could provide some x factor to the team.

If not, Nick Rippon could be a smokie.

  12. With Jacobs nominating for the national draft, surely josh toy must be strongly considered. Despite his heart condition, this kid could add some extra talent across half back, as well as spending time in the midfield. With us being the first victorian-based club to have a pick we are in the box seat. Probably the best talent on offer in the PSD, we would be crazy not to have a good look at him

  13. I'd prefer wines based on the attitude and toughness that he would bring to the club. It's been mentioned that we need more run and carry players, however, with the inclusions of byrnes, barry and rodan, to go with blease and even nicholson, i think we have enough players for now to provide us with that pace. Even jones, trengove, grimes and sylvia have shown they have the ability to spread from the contest, rather than just attacking the ball. There will plenty of opportunities to pick up more outside runners, but being able to have the two best bulldozers in the one team is something that is hard to pass up.

  14. Braedon McLean

    Height: 178cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 09/11/1994

    Recruited from: Waratah Football Club

    Style:

    Player comparison:

    Range: 35-rookie

Profile: Another of those athletic Northern Territorians to really stand out during the u18 championships. McLean has some real pace and has some ability to do some damage on a wing. Skill level solid and runs to the right spots to find the footy.

    - Knightmare Bigfooty

Possibly worth a look at late 3rd/early 4th round pick
