  1. 25 degrees at present Based on recent days it will be 29 degrees at game time dropping to around 20 degrees by the end of the game. http://www.bom.gov.au/nt/observations/ntall.shtml?ref=hdr just scroll down for current temp in Alice and surrounds
  2. strangely enough I agree with you but as usual it will mean nothing if we do not follow it up with a few more wins. Looking for some stand out/good performances today from a few players... Oliver, Hannan and Wagner are the three I will be watching. The performance of the last two is vital if we are going to salvage this season. Very tired of the revolving trios of ins and outs.
  3. Jurrah would have put this club on the TV map not to mention the neutral supporters had he been successful. The way he played together with his background was a marketer's dream. Alas it was not to be. On a more relevant note the indigenous round papers over the treatment of Goodes in the last few years of his career by many opposition fans. The average footy fan has a long way to go.
  4. On a slightly wider note it seems that this year could be a big one for trading. Listening to Peter Gordon (president of the Bulldogs) yesterday he made the obvious point that clubs are looking at a 20% increase in the salary cap over the next five years. How individual clubs spread that around is mainly up to them. Some may choose to invest it in one or two players with back ended deals etc. He mentioned this in the context of say North going after Dustin Martin. With our five or so key younger players it will be interesting to see how MFC decides to play the game and of course the likes of Oliver or Petracca could be the subject of big offers from other clubs.
  5. Not as bad as them playing the Port theme song instead of the Oz National Anthem in China a few weeks back !
  6. Late to this technology but it seems that Foxtel Go is the way and then split the subscription costs with a few mates. Not everyone needs it on both phones and laptops. One approved connection per household for example and then chromecast or whatever to the TV and it is around $15 per moth assuming a 4 way split. Completely legal and to keep everyone honest you pre pay the Foxtel for say a year and then if people don't kick in for the next year by say month 10 the primary account holder cancels it. Am I missing something or simply catching up with the way it is done anyway ? Seems that the same works for Netflix , Stan etc if not better because if you are overseas these services do not seem to worry about geo blocking
  7. Swans V Hawks 12th v 17th who would have thought it Hard to see Hawks getting up but would not mind seeing the Swans get a little more humble pie.... Their success in recent years is staring to make some of their supporters Hawthorn like in their arrogance... (yes... I am insanely jealous!!)
  8. The indigenous debate has thankfully moved way beyond themed rounds of football. If anything the AFL is hijacking an important issue for marketing reasons. Hate to say it but they have done the same with the ANZAC day fixture.
  9. here..... the coverage in NT is a bit of a misnomer .. the total population of NT is less than 250K of which half live in Darwin The population of Alice is around the same as Mildura !! Even if half the town came to the game the crowd would be just over 10K It really is a Mickey Mouse game
  10. Indigenous Round... we are playing in the Alice etc.......... you would think that we would be a story but in reality ......... no one cares.......no FTA, no press As I understand it the fee for these away home games is around $500K per game (not sure who pays for travel etc)..... $20 per member and no more of these ridiculous journeys
  11. Was using the AFL Watch as an example of current pricing of the AFL product. The seller according to my invoice is Fox Sports. Hard to see that any stand alone offer would be at a lesser price as I assume AFL watch is a not much if anything of a profit centre. The AFL Watch has pretty well everything that Fox Footy has as far as I can see. It runs yearly but effectively no charge for the off season in the sense that it is $33 for a month and $198 for 12 month. It actually promotes its ability to be projected from your tablet to the screen unlike the local Telstra AFL app. As the season wears on they have in the past offered discounted fee packages to reflect the remaining season.
  12. Thanks.... the Watch AFL service sold to overseas watchers (which is close to your desired requirements) is $33 a month or $198 per year. If I understand correctly the minimum monthly spend for Foxtel package including footy is around $80 per month
  13. Good Point......... Out of interest what would you be prepared to pay for the AFL channel on a monthly/annual basis
  14. Hard to get excited about this game. A win would be nice but unless they follow it up with a few more wins the game means little. Will be looking for a few positives such as: Continued development by Hannan Wagner showing why the selection panel like him ( would help if he cut/dyed his hair so I can distinguish him from Hunt) Oliver to have a great game by foot as well as hand
  15. Great post.... well balanced and informative Reminds us that the players are just young men and we armchair critics need to chill out sometimes.
  16. There was a great thread last year on internet v Foxtel v FTA as the future sports platforms but I could not find it so I thought I would post here. The Guardian article below reveals that Amazon (UK version) is now going to offer the Eurosports Channel as an add on it to its TV services. By itself not earth shattering but another blow to the cable channels in this case Sky TV. The pricing is interesting... "Amazon will offer the channels at an extra cost to Amazon Prime members, who pay £79 a year or £7.99 a month for on-demand video including exclusive shows such as American Gods, The Grand Tour and Man in the High Castle. The individual pricing for the new channels ranges from £1.49 to £9.49 a month, with subscribers choosing and paying for individual services, rather than for a bundle as with the traditional pay-TV model used by Sky. Netflix’s standard video on-demand service costs £7.49 a month while Sky’s cheapest package of channels is £22." On the pick and choose model the article makes the following comment: “The main challenge Amazon has is that it is offering all of the channels standalone, which is potentially extremely expensive,” said Broughton. “The a la carte model has been tried a few times in the pay-TV market before. Research suggests that people say they want to pick and choose but in practice they prefer buying a big bundle and get ‘all-they-can-eat’ TV. In time, Amazon may look at aggregating some of the channels it is offering into a pay-TV style package.” https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/may/23/amazon-netflix-sky-uk-itv-eurosport-hayu
  17. Thanks guys IMO we have to persevere with Melksham at least for the remainder of this woeful season. Of the revolving trios of change men (ANB, JKH Bugg Kennedy etc) I can see a few not making next years list so it becomes all the more important to see if Melksham can become a regular. Perhaps a change of position could help.
  18. do you happen to know what position he played at Essendon and how he played? cheers
  19. Remember someone telling me that you could not give assistance (a la the human pyramid on the goal line) but it didn't jump out at me when I looked at the rules. Perhaps others may know which rule applies http://s.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL Tenant/AFL/Files/Images/2016 Laws of Australian Football.pdf
  20. Good point but out of this years list he is probably the only one (Jake Spencer aside) that would interest other clubs from a bidding viewpoint. Perhaps they are waiting for the new salary cap info as 2018 is a major year for re-signings. Salem is a key player going forward if for no other reason than his comparative kicking skills.
  21. Interesting second half of the year coming up for a few players from a contracting viewpoint: JKH ANB Ben Ken and Vandenberg (injury struck this year but is he part of the team (game plan) going forward?) plus Jake S becomes an unrestricted free agent
  22. 13 games left. We need to win 8/9 out of those 13 and rely upon others teams to to lose. Of those 13 games they include WC in Perth, Adelaide in Darwin, Swans at the MCG, Giants in Canberra and Bulldogs at Etihad. Lose one out of the next two and it starts heading towards a mathematical impossibility. The reality is that we need to decide how we are best going to go into next season with any form of momentum. If we happen to win enough to make the 8 that is great but it is now long odds . The last two games of last season were debilitating from an ongoing membership viewpoint and cannot be repeated. On an optimistic viewpoint our last three games... St Kilda, Lions and Collingwood are among our most winnable perhaps
  23. Glory Glory Alleluia !! and the flag goes marching on etc etc Interesting that both MFC and Casey's songs are derivatives of US Civil War songs.
  24. King coming in could be a possibility in place of Weideman My only problem is that with his limited game time since coming back he may not have the tank for the Alice. This season is practically over so it is time to see if King can come on as a replacement for Spencer next year. As to the ever revolving trio of changes it is really neither here nor there. All have been given their chance and I doubt that any will show dramatic improvement although I still hold out hope for Stretch. Melksham is the most disappointing simply because he was regular 22 in the Bombers team when they were an upper middle rung team. Would be interesting to hear why he was so often a regular pick for the Bombers and what if anything has he lost since coming across to us.
  25. One of the few bright spots out of what is turning out to be a miserable season for MFC. We really need to have some luck with our lower round picks. He's a good fit for the game plan Well done
