I’ve heard 1.2 mil on the table. To simply accept May in exchange for Hogan would be us getting completely and utterly bent over. May is a good average backman. We’ve gotta be strong with this deal. We are not to get screwed otherwise fans will be furious

I have heard May referred to by some tv hacks as the 2nd best defender in the league, not that that means anything, but I suggest he is better than a good average backman

what was scuttlebutt yesterday is rooted in fact today.

he's not gone yet but it's moved from unlikely to maybe. from all parties

No matter what anyone says, its always maybe. This thing is a beat-up

Don't forget the pollution started with Greg " makes it up as he goes venom " Denom

The whole thing has a strong whiff of beat-up to it. Dees not driving it, Hoges "open to it" but not driving it, that leaves Freo, who have openly declared their interest for years.

I'm starting to think this story is a dud

Geez if Kent and hogan are going that's pretty much a quarter of the list gone. Don't know what to make of it tbh?

And three quarters of the injuries

    Got unders for Watts!??

Kidding yourself mate, this is the same Jack Watts that was told to pull his head in last year only to then get dropped!

We trade him for a 2nd rounder pick which then gets us Fritsch who is a future gun in the making and already showed me this year then Watts ever did.

Oh and did i say that even Port dropped the lazy and pea hearted in Jack Watts this year?

If anything, we got a bargain.

Yes, it panned out that way, but we could have extracted more at the time if we played hardball

I think Watts they knew they’d get the player they wanted and lever they knew they were going to have to give up 2 to get him. I’m willing to bet we get two for Jesse

If that happens, I would be very pleased

He’s contracted and other similar players have been worth 2 picks so that’s what we will get for hogan. Freo are desperate and will cough them up just to get a good player over the line.

I wouldnt be so sure that we will get two first round picks or equivalent. Mahoney and Goodwin have proven themselves to be soft touches when it come to the trade table. They paid overs for Lever and got unders for Watts. Same will most likely happen again

Well at least at next seasons draft the opposition clubs know how to negotiate  and i use that term very loosely with us.

All they have to do is ask for a better deal and they get it, regardless if the player is in contract or OOC.  MFC negotiation skills 101.

    This

i am am really pleased we have picked up Lever. That he is a gun is not in dispute. The Watts eviction was probably necessary too. The problem is that we are now known as the patsys of the league, no poker face whatsoever

We've just picked up arguably the best player from the 2014 draft, certainly top 3 with Petracca and Heeney.

When is the last time a club got such a quality 21 year old out of another club ?

The Lever deal by itself makes this trade period a huge success and without question the best deal we've done in 20 years (Jeff White) and I suspect will be our best trade ever.

Lever did all the work... he fell in our lap. I would not be patting our guys on the back for getting it done. Joe the goose if there ever was one

    Carlton had the player.

    Adelaide had the player.

    WTF are you on about.

As it unfolded, Crows were keen to get the Gibbs deal done. They knew they were going to lose Lever and needed the picks. They had the player, we had the picks, could have done the deal for 10 and 27 if we held out. No other clubs had a look in.

Imagine the uproar if we left it to the last minute.  We'd all be whinging that we haven't done anything this trade period.  Some would be asking if Mahoney has a pulse.

The only thing that would top that would be if we waited to get a better deal for Lever, only to find we missed him because Collingwood back-doored us because we flucked around so much.

Come on, Lever nominated us, he was more or less wearing the red and blue, we held all the aces, were in the absolute box seat and then we folded like little girls. Weak.

This is the part where our man swoops in with a last minute pick upgrade that has everyone who was saying he is useless,  now praising him as a genius........

    *fingers crossed.

Dream on... he is probably just scouting around to see if anyone wants to pay unders or get overs on any last minute deals

  13. There is a lot of noise about Port being the big winners in Trade Week, picking up Motlop, Watts and Rockliff, while only letting go Trengove, Impey and pick 31.

Some have gone as far as to say they should be premiership favourites as a result.

Lets just look at this for a moment ...

Motlop ... inconsistent at best, played 2 good finals when his career was on the line, apart from that lucky to be selected

Rockliff... sure, had a good season, racked up possessions, but hey, who competed with him from his own midfield ? The jury is well and truly out on him

Watts, well I won't go there

I have my doubts on Port, wouldn't be surprised to see them go backwards in 2018.

There's no way that could be allowed to happen again, surely. If that isn't draft tampering, then draft tampering isn't a thing.

Either way, we could have played it smarter, stood firm to the end of trade week at least, instead of just collapsing.Hey, dont get me wrong, doing the deal was imperative, just the way it was played was weak and we could have gotten him for less im sure

  15. Mahoneys negotiating skills are particularly poor. He was in a commanding position in this trade, Lever could have gone to the draft Luke Ball style and Crows would have gotten nothing. If he stood firm on 10 + 27 they would have had no choice but to capitulate.

Likewise, telegraphing to the world that we didnt want Watts devalued his currency significantly.

Obviously the guys know what they are doing when it comes to talent and footy, they just need a decent business advisor to help them in doing deals.
