  1. Good work remembering P, Obrien re the NBT comment. Some long standing Demon supporters can be a worry. Same as current day dudes bag out on a 20 yo Jack Watts. I also remember RF in his first couple of games and everyone knew he was NBT big time.
  2. I recall that first quarter. Dees were HOT:)
  3. Ray, Alan and Geoff Watson though two of them didn't play vfl. Dean Watson(Alan's Son) was a Morrish Medal Winner the year Gary Ablett Senior won the Brownlow I think Dean barracked for Melbourne. Come to think of it don't even think Geoff barracked for the Dees.
  4. i think Aaron might be struggling. seems to be playing without confidence and zip. Blease will be very good. Leg breaks take a while.
  5. hehe! Nice one. each to there own opinion. I thought comparatively speaking Baker was better than Jamar. He would mark everything. Bout the same in the mobility stakes. My point is born out though. How bout Byrne and Clayton. Why couldn't they do it for the Dees? Peter Giles was tough! Better than Rivers today. You're not thinking of his bro Glen are you?? Moir...Very hard?? Now I know how Wattsy feels. What will be said about him in 20 years?
  6. You forgot the general point here. Why is there such attention. Melbourne selected him as number one draft pick. Dees picked him. Can't make excuses later , i.e, he's just a skinny school kid just out of Brighton Grammar. Number one draft picks in third year should be having more of an impact. There is a lot of self preservation in the way Watts plays. This will change I think.
  7. Turn down the sound and just watch the game. Miss out on ads and all the crap commentary. Most commercial commentators only state the obvious and look for an opportunity to plug a product. Having said some are good. The Guy found dead in his Apartment was fantastic and most ABC Commentators. SEN are shockers same as all commercial radio stations. They are only beating the drum of Carlton and United this and Sportsbet that. Treat us like Canon Fodder. The MUTE button is very worn on my remote:) Mick's comments about Watts were very close to the bone and contentious at the same time-maybe to close for some. Watts has got promise no doubt about it but he does hang back a little. I think that will change. He was terrific v Tigers last year. The first game
  8. Loved all those guys! Warren Dean beautiful kick! Got injured. Without looking it up would S Tingay be in that list?
  9. Good memory! I recall he came back but never was the same. Was going to be as good as Flower or Tingay.
  10. Obrien had his career cut short with a knee injury similar to N Daniher. Crosswell was everywhere! OK replace him with with anyone on the IC. Perhaps the Forward Pocket version with Robbie Walters? I don't agree with the Steven Smith comments. If Smith played for Collingwood in his Prime he would have been a Gun. He lost a lot of Confidence at the time all his Hair fell out(he had a health issue) and Mathews allegedly knocking him out was a big set back. Smith also played very well as a defender. He was offered big dollars by Carlton and remained faithful. Didn't find him disappointing at all.
  11. Interesting! Your perception about just turning up to play then having a few beers....Perhaps was more than that? My thoughts are while Barassi was the greatest coach going around maybe he was way to friendly with some of the stars in that team. Sure he would rant and rave as you say but he wouldn't say the hard things, i.e., Malthouse comments about J. Watts.
  12. Baker Giles Pinnell Elliot Hardeman OBrien Gordon Nettlefold Flower © Byrne Smith Healy Crosswell Jackson Elshaugh Keenan Fowler ODonnell IC :Clayton Catoggio Walters Moir Seddon Hutchison Dittrerich Coach :Ron Barassi. A team to entertain Veteran Dee supporters here. Baker had Vice Hands, Peter Giles was a rugged Defender similar to Rivers but tougher. Pinnell was a star at Carlton. Elliot, Crosswell and Hardeman all Pedigree. Gordon and Flower two of the best wingers in the game and Nettlfold was tough. Byrne was tall and rangey and went on to be a star at Hawthorn. Gerard Healy could kick a goal, Steve Smith always underated CHF, great mark and kick-victim of a Mathews elbow allegedly.(I was there) Crosswell is what Finals are made of with Mark Jackson kicked 76 goals(was probably a mistake) then Tony Elshaugh Victorian rover. Crackers was Crackers, Laurie Fowler was tough as nails, could kick goals and play any defensive role. Kelly Odonnell was good but a softie. The bench didn't lack talent with Cameron Clayton Vinny Catoggio Ex Blues star State rover Robbie Walters could make a lead and kick a goal (something Dees lack right now)Obrien did his knee and looked like being the next Gary Ablett. What went wrong? This team coached by the Great one won ONE game all season. How does it compare with the Dees of 2012 skippered by Trengove and Grimes and Coached M. Neeld?
  13. Nice quote but not if you happen to be a Fitzroy Supporter. Doubt if many will read your quote though. Love your post!
  14. big call and also rough on Neil Daniher. He took us very very close!!! I do think his love for Jeff White was OVER the top.
  15. Welcome to Skype . Look me up "thaipantsman" and add me. we can discuss Melbourne's 2012 Finals chances.
  16. Will Leigh Williams play for the Dees this year?
  17. a little early to judge. i felt Bailey's game plan was more suited to elite highly skilled players. game plans don't work well if you don't win the ball.
  18. the elite 5 SORRY!! AS FOLLOWS CLARKE, JURRAH, TRENGOVE, WATTS, BLEASE.
  19. Big Carl was also a Gorilla!! Don't forget Melbourne made it into 2000 Grand Final without the types of GUN players you suggested. What about the "champion team" doing it for us rather that the "team of champions" There is a load of potential there Biffo. Which ones will come through?? Not sure but off the top of my head without consulting the team list here goes...not in order.. Blease, Clarke, Grimes, Frawley, Gysberts, Howe, Jurrah, Martin, Petterd, McKenzie, Moloney , Sylvia, Trengove, Watts....Potentials from Gawn, J. Viney and I'm not giving up on Leigh Williams.. Get Allen Jackovich to make a comeback would also be good! We need a guy that LOVES to kick a goal...
  20. Hei this was my THREAD. I posted Colin Sylvia "good call bad call" with a comment but seems to have been deleted?? I was trying to start a movement to get Col in the starting line up for round one...suspended sentence perhaps?? Can anyone one remember a Game against PA last year in the tropics. Dees got home but would have lost for sure if it wasn't for Sylvia and Jurrah. Same goes for the Pies the other day..Put that one down to Colin Sylvia. He's a star !
  21. Very unfair Master Demon! Colin Sylvia is currently MFC's best player. He and possibly Brent Moloney are Power Players in MFC. His style of play does attribute to injuries sadly. Granted he does appear to disappear on occasions and this is because of chronic Groin problems. He will put a smile on your face this year:)
