  1. I have to disagree I have never known Dees to be nice Comfortable safe and unthreatening It does fit well with GO Dees which can be yelled in a variety of rythms and is a compacted aggressive sound it also can be expressed easily with a number of mouth positions, clenched teeth, subdued whisper, and emphasis can be placed on the first or second word for emphasis changing the context. While DEmons can be similarly used it is only with the emphasis on the two syllabyls(?? spelling) that can alter the feeling. I would never propose abolition of Demons as it also so evocative and redolent of the history and glory and even the hell of promise and despair that I have experienced. I hope to use both as we storm to success and hope you can compromise and join me as we recognise that we are indeed DEMONS and THE DEMONS as we go Go Dees!!!
  2. I'd like them to earn it now! Really mixed thoughts on this as my likes show. agree with most sentiments dumb, bad decisions, holiday, privacy, profile, rocket scientists, kids, tea cup, minor, poor impression, press beat up, Hope they can move on its all part of growing up. its all part of learning If they are required to meet standards and do or exceed them our attitude may change if they continue unchanged it would be worse. It will be interesting to see how Neeld Craig etc handle or dont handle it. I probably wont be disappointed in either approach if we see some success.
  3. Ahh that explains My finest work lost in the alternative universe to which i was refferring. I could be the idiot and apologise for any depression caused by my return Happy festive season see you in the new year
  4. Thought I responded to this post and all went blanck Eggnog??? Fire????? Normal???? I must be in a parrallel universe its so bloody hot here. Perhaps need to bunker down and watch a different replay to see that demon flag In the meantime wish all on Dland a happy festive season with a great new year I think we are due for one .....it must be happeneing somewhere...lets hope the reality bus takes us there.
  5. Did the world end? AmI still alive or am I in some parallel dimension where the opposite of reality exists?? And if so why didnt Melbourne win the flag and sydney tank?? Its all too much!!!
  6. leadership is an often illdefined attribute in many academic and theoretical contexts. It is a characteristic that is always needed, sought and admired. I was taught by an admired mentor a salutory lesson in leadership when preparing emergency procedures. We also selected, appointed and trained appropriate emergency officers.(leaders) My mentor supported the activity but reminded me when an emergency happened and some of our leaders were away that leaders emerge. Indeed over time in the organisation we saw leaders emerge from their reaction to a situation and the acknowledgement and acceptance by others of their leadership. As I said it is not an easy matter but the difficulties in appointing are obvious. Politics, religion , social, formal, informal, structured, unstructured . There are probably more failed leaders than successful and I do believe that there are more figureheads or leaders who operate with others around them performing leadership roles. It is getting that balance right that is the greatest test of an organisation. My mentor also confirmed one of the defined points of leaders that they contain most of the character attributes of those they are leading and that is what sets them apart. being able to recognise, inspire and utilise the skills of those about you is probably the greatest proof of leadership. Let the leaders emerge
  7. You're right about point 1 I remember comenting on that myself I did purely mean that kg matched rf for that lighness of movement and ability to be moving in his own space and time They were both truly wonderful to watch. I also thank you for that quote which does remind me that I havent picked up that book ( or any other ) for some time
  8. This looks like a great alternative Thanks for letting us know it What is the potential for parking? As we drive and park currently a tram ride in to the g would not be as inclusive as a ferry filled with d supporters
  9. Wow r13 That is one of the best pieces I have read. Very "Flanagan"ish Deserves to be repeated every now and then to fulfill the title pof the thread The parrallels are apt. RF sits easily with the champions of the game. The lightness and space even a giant like Lockett or a slug like Williams could display and the master of all missed on DL post K Grieg the only one who came close to Robbie Maybe even Aker (who we like to forget) had it The best story I know (which I have repeated ) is the Footscray Elders (women) who in the midst of Melbourne supporters stated the best backhanded compliment I have ever heard. The trouble with Robbie Flower (repeated for impact several times) IS he cant kick it to Robbie Flower (although if there was any one possible of doing that it was RF
  10. Have really enjoyed this thread especially the contribution of Choke who has tried to retain a semblance of logic and order but appears to finally had enough. Is media the drug (opiate) of the masses now.? That the public of Australia has been stirred up by the events of an individual (with litt;le casual reference as Choke has indicated) as a reaction to a frivolous humourous response to the juggernaut surrounding a royal beatup, is most unfortunate. To exagerate that this is an indication of the slipping of civilisation moral and value, no not even an indication but down right evidence is surely the epitome of irony. Even Prince Phil saw the entertainment (publiclly) of the episode. But little do we know what happened in private and how now obviously how entrenched are the sympathies for those in priveleged positions. OH HEck I think Ive lost the plot! Choke and deeluded (at least) help me by continuing your eloquent and coherent arguments that I might have the shutters lifted from my deluded thoughts and actually give a rats. Perhaps it does put into context the state of Trenners knee// Heaven help us should some unfortunate supporter take extreme action OH perhaps thats what it is all about?
  11. WARNING!!! WARNING!!!! OUTBREAK OF PEACE AND LOVE ON SITE! Seriously tho Great to see that agreement can be negotiated with open and frank discussion Its often easy with the written word to lose sight of intention. More so as appropriate punctuation is usually avoided. And sometimes acknowledgment of failings and apology can go a long way to healing wounds. We often need to reflect that we are on the same side. I also like to think of the old customer service adage Treat others as you would like to be treated. Although I was taught that by a Hawks supporter so I suppose theres even plenty of room for misunderstanding. On topic of Anderson it will be interesting to see if his career path is up down or sideways.
  12. does any one have access to a hawthorn site to see their opinion of him?
  13. It would be nice to think that our club was mature enough and developed enough with a culture strong enough to allow us to confidently introduce, educate (develop) and support recruits whatever their situation . Maybe we are not there yet but we are recognising many features of our progress I always said at organisations I worked for that managers were not employed to manage the easy things. Unfortunately MFC seems to have many difficult things in the reality bus and we may not need another passenger. I will be happy when the driver recognises that we have plenty of room for those things that will help us get to our destination.
  14. This has been another absorbing thread which makes this site compulsive viewing. I dont know the answer either Have used drugs during those loose living days Have witnessed tragedy of drug use HAve worked in Health industry where the evidence of swelling impacts (including cost) is obbvious have heard same arguments and seen same impacts with alchohol and cigarettes and Gambling Legalising surely means greater ability to control. The dangers and damage must be more clearly and broadly understood although the risk taking element will still not be persuaded until they are addicted when it is too late. Support must be provided at that point by a compassionate society Legalising can allow cost apportioned to compensate harms (like gambling Tax) and assist research to diminish harms Use legally or illegally must be treated relative to the harm. Sports people may be doing themselves less harm on some drugs than on others with recovery etc and may have less impact on their workplace. The amount of money they receive could be seen to represent compensation for the greater role they are perceived to have and therefore control (demand for testing etc) may be diferent than other workplace requirements. As I said I dont know the answers but am certainly interested in the views others have expressed. Greater discussion will improve our knowledge and assist in resolving the many sides to the issue.
  15. I prefer this thread so little B$
  16. After 40+years of supporting the DEEs it's pretty hard to get me too excited about footy BUT I do still like the passion and the analysis that all Dlanders exhibit. Don't agree with it all but enjoy the effort that is displayed and provoked. If the players and coaches apply as much passion as displayed on Dland we would be far more exciting I guess the thing I was concentrating on was the flexibility that the current lineup gives us and I hope we have learnt from last year that you need more than 1 plan. If that plan doesnt work try another. The players we have now provide some greater options and even though Rivers has gone we now have the Watts option. Lets keep the lid on so that the water boils more quickly. Its going to be exciting seeing what comes out of the pot.
  17. Would that be tanking????????
  18. mate of mine follows North seriously and states that Pederson has great potential With Dawes and Clarke if foot ok we have a really potent forward trio with options to rotate. Add leaper Howe to the quartet and there are some really exciting forward options to attack to. The main danger could be them getting in each others way. lets hope the crumbers are ready to pick up the loose balls coming from fierce contests and space that will be created as our boys force the opposition to man them up.
  19. Great reports and photos Thanks for all who contribute. I hope you guys arent photoshopping !!!!! It's great to see muscle definition. really noticeable for someone like me who doesn't see the guys live anymore. I reckon this season could surprise? GO DEES
  20. Thanks DeeZee Look forward to the continuation of wattmania Maybe its a good thing that his every action is so closely analysed. It saves others from scrutiny and can provide an invaluable feedback tool or alternatively can be used as a benchmark tool. I just like the kid and think that despite the heightened expectation and perhaps even false assessment he is in fact beginning to look like a real asset. I hope we can use his skill and that other teamates can benefit from his accumulation and distribution, and that the coaches can keep him motivated to continue.
  21. Thanks RPFC one of the most useful lists on site
  22. WHEW!!!! I think I enjoy it all ????? but needs a different heading Seriously it is great to see the diversity that the demons supporters represent. It is what makes our country great and what can make our club great. Lets accommodate all views and progress.
  23. I really like the look of the players structure that can used. It may be a chance for Neeld to invent a game style. Not congested defensive nor open Pagan paddock but the demon rotation model where the forwards Clarke Howe Dawes Pederson all rotate around the forward line from depp in the pockets to deep in the flanks Always moving so that 1 big tall is in each position and allowing enough space for the circulating Roden Blease byrnes and midfielders can support at the ball drop. Viney and Wines may not have as much influence as some seem to want but if their attitude, enthusiasm and agression is picked up by others there is plenty of spreadto add. The backline can benefit from the solid base that has developed and maybe with a bit more pressure to ease the barrage into our defence the turnovers can be decreased. With Watts and Dunn delivering more accuratly to a forward line that offers more options there might even be a more effective return from defensive attack. The midfield strength including the Jamar Spencer Gawn Fitz options provide some alternative options that again can provide some real variation with a rotation around the centre weighting numbers when we have the ball and responding to attacks by spreading. Who knows a new year a new team a new strategy Lets see what we come up with
  24. Leadership is shown through many difficult to define attributes. Bater has displayed loyalty to the club by admitting his own deficiencies during the hardest of times. His acknowledgement of "trying" his best should be presented to the AFL as critical evidence from a player during that period that we did not deliberatly lose. WE just weren't good enough with what we had. Bater did provide some excellent passages but unfortunately it was not the full symphony. Perhaps he has learnt more from the darkest of periods than many will learn travelling in the light Good luck to him in whatever path he goes down.
  25. Wow He certainly seems to play at a different speed to everyone else but also has an amazing sense of awareness. his speed brings others into the play and helps him elude others. Would be surprised to see him missed by others but could continue the long list of indigenous players would be great to have him at the dees.
