You are right BB59 This is the time for Neeld to start coaching Hope to hear some analysis of this after the game ie positions players placed Zone of man on man \ opposition tactics and countering moves speed of moves proactive actin taken and impacts. Watts as loose man in Backline doesnt seem to be working so what response? Will hope for the improvement but ist sure aint looking good. I did say there was plenty to be excited about but Im beginning to worry. Although some see excitement in a train wreck.

still like to drop Howe back maybe promote Rodan and you have an aware side with vision the hard working and poor delivery side can work it across there even if it is a poor delivery

Who will be the most improved MFC player this year?
dpositive replied to Young Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sorry 2-4 is 100% increase 7-14 is 100% increase harder to achieve when base is higher I Think??? -
Irony

I reckon we all have similar views Started with this Does it matter if he impresses me NO does it matter if he impresses Caroline Wilson NO it only matters if he impresses the Team Then again As part of the supporting team I need to be impressed to reinforce his impression on the players. As I have said I am eagerly awaiting the match day situations. So far everything Neeld has done has seemed OK BUT We really need some wins. Im excited and really want to be impressed I think I understand where your at OD

Who will be the most improved MFC player this year?
dpositive replied to Young Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dont want to spoil your enthusiasm YD but we really need to see them all improve. The most improved will probably be the one starting from the lowest base. An increase of 100% of 2 is only 4 while an increase from 7 to 14 would be lot more difficult. However an even small improvement in Watts will result in better opportunities for teammates and therefore may be the most improved for outcomes -
Dont want to derail the thread as it has been very interesting with lots of reasonable thoughts expressed but Did wonder if RPFC was referring to "football kicking" in Canberra or the other kicking that seems to be prevalent there. I would quote as the best example the "slipper" and would hope there is indeed more "thinking" and "humble" listening to improve the standard. On the practice and muscle memory I have recounted watching Kelvin Templeton kicking at the chimney and marking the rebound. If he missed it was a run around the house to collect the ball. I cant recall him kicking great distance but he seemed pretty accurate. Bernie Quinlan played junior footy at CHF and always had to kick a distance as he was mobile enough to get a long way out with no one to kick to.

PHEW dont want to be included on the list BUT I agree with most of Bin Man comments.Probably just wouldn't close it down at it does provide an outlet for repressed feelings and may even have some value. Would prefer a more jocular title like "who would you most like to fart in the general direction of" (thanks Monty Python)if that is the jocular intention of the poll, although even that may offend people. Or as bin man suggests "who is least liked" as that does seem to be the real intent of the poll.

The Coach has to be so careful of what he says publicly. The opposition will also hear it. I am happy with a diluted expectation with recognition of reality. It is still exciting as I hope he is supressing the confidence that he is expressing with the team Good comments on Sylvia and it will be interesting to see how this works out. I am still excited by the options and hoping for improvement which will bring success..

will be interested in your reality comments YD (and everyone else) I will also be following running updates Really appreciate efforts of those more skilled than me. Just hope it doesnt interfere with the necessary reality supporting GO DEES

I recollect that we have had many 5 year plans introduced. When we get to year 3 without success we have changed the plan and introduced another 5 year plan by a new regime. There has been no consistency in the plans and we have virtually discarded and started again. I notice that Neeld was appointed for 3 I am not sure what the cycle in AFL is and it may well be 5 and not 3 perhaps we need to establish what it is and stick to it if it 6 or 7 we need a plan for that time. It would at least be good to see some adherence to direction for a complete cycle of failure and success. We never seem to get to the success bit. This comment is only drawn from my failing memory bank .I am happy to be criticized/ corrected by some more knowledgeable

Best 22 for round 1 - your call.
dpositive replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
Still not sure of my team sort of depends on characteristics of opposition in defence and onball Do we go Tall or quick?? Heres one from left field FB Jetta Frawley Garland HB Watts McDonald Dunn C Blease Jones Toumpas HF Clarke Sellar Pedersen FF Howe Byrne Dawes Fol Jamar Grimes Viney Int Rodan Gillies McKenzie ? Terlich DAvey Sylvia Im looking for run and delivery into the forward line with some bulk and spread from all forwards plenty of space for any of them to run into and plenty of crumbs. Its good to have so many unknowns to select from I hope Neeld is really enjoying it -
Your lucky to have that much technology option We were recently the centre of more lightning strikes and even my steam powered system was put out of action. Telstra Repair date was given by my supplier as 26 April so I was not a happy camper. I rang to say as I had no internet facility I couldnt arrange payment of my Telstra telephone account. Miraculously the fault was fixed by 5.00 that night ensuring access to Demonland. My supplier (not Telstra) was equally astounded. We do have the occasional victory over the grander forces so dont despair

A few photos of the guys going around for Casey yesterday
dpositive replied to Six6Six's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great photos again thanks 6 Is it just me but do they all seem to be a bit more filled out this year? and I am amazed by the height off the ground particularly in ruck contests The close ups make you realise they are just boys -
I also think it will be a bit of a roller coaster
but I am hoping thats on the 4 point scoreboard as we win some games by large margins and lose some games with close scores

The turnover or mistake will prove costly undoing all the good work done for a majority of the game.
but that will display our areas for improvement

Our squad will be used creatively with the depth and flexibility to match up against specific opposition and our game plans and strategies will negate and confound the opposition. Our improved fitness will mean that only unexpected injuries will affect our performance and team selection.

our game day plans will show solid team work as the squad which has worked together for many months now know and recognise each others abilities and strenghts putting the ball to advantage the player who can run into it and knowing who is going to handpass as an option knowing that a kick will fall short cos its my teamates poor side etc

The coaches have had enough time to get the routines into the players .I do not subscribe to the belief that it takes a long time for recruits to learn new patterns etc. WE are now talking about full time professional footballers with improved coaching and support.

So some wins some losses but an improved competitive team that will be consistent
but results may still be roller coaster

Its exciting lets enjoy it

GO DEES
I think its pretty clear that he said "you are playing for the wrong side. we are meant to get the goals" whilst the uncharitable will suggest there were more expletives I am sure that Neeld showing the compassion of a senior coach with his hands kept firmly in his pocket to avoid any inappropriate physical response would have been assured and measured. It was the sort of moment that would have have Daniher or Balme just putting their head in their hands, and Bailey congratulating him for getting the ball and exhausting himself with the inside run before turning it over to develop the defensive skills of his teamates. He could see the future development efforts of JW as he tried to protect his zone were also exlempary. No doubt under any other regime it would be JW's fault

It does provide us with an opportunity to increase our exposure by playing the Sydney sides in Sydney in prime time using the Melbourne Sydney rivallry. Of course we need to keep these prime time games competitive and overcome the AFL desire to grow the game in Sydney through Sydney wins. AS the only side called Melbourne we can do the same for all interstate sides and if we are competitive we can demand better coverage. WE NEED TO BE COMPETITIVE!!!

Can we use depth/versatility to strengthen our midfield this year?
dpositive replied to Young Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Depth is a good description and it does appear to be an aspect that we are developing. It also allows a more flexible structure so you can rest players or select to counter opponents structures I have also promoted a tactic of rotation like a basketball key where the players rotate around the ball movement to create space and unsettle opposition structures. It can provide movement within zone structures to find holes and can break man on man structures Of course it requires greater movement therefore fitness although if done smoothly in coordinated fashion it can be done at a slower pace with burst features. It is all part of the excitement that I see is possible with the players we have I will be watching Neelds structures and tactics with anticipation- 10 replies

I dont know Schwarta intimately and have heard portions of his story throughout his career but I do know that he is highly regarded for his honesty in acknowledging his problems and the resilience in confronting them. Hope his messages got through to the next generation. The need to make the most of the opportunity, The privilege they have the friendships they can make and retain The reputation they can forge.
