I dont normally bet on the footy but at that price in a two horse race there must be some value????
-
Oh I was quoting Dfan who also said he was "playing reasonable football as it is" Dont know what goods he has to produce in a totally underperforming side so unsure what price would be reasonable.

I think enough posters here from thought or experience would suggest that kicking can be improved. But you do need to analyse why it is poor. Technique eg ball drop, leg action etc or process ie decision making etc or just confidenc Probably all contribute I reckon all players in any team will kick poorly if not given time and space and it seems Melbourne players almost always dont have either Perhaps concentrate on making that space for teamate if giving them the ball or giving them space if they have it might improve the kick Receiving the kick is also the most important feature of how good it is . Some players can make a poor kick look good

Are you trying to convince me to trade him or keep him He is 22 He is full of potential He is in demand by others who reckon they can use him MFC is travelling so well with an overwhelming choice of gifted players that the coaches have not been able to exploit that we really must let this one go for an unknown what about getting a coach who can use him and the rest of our talented list to perform I dont want to get repetitious about some of the simple things I think I want the club and the coach to get on with it.

Could be the opening that Tasmania has been waiting for
-
I reckon it is the coaches They have to make the players care about their performance they have to instill some reasons that the players understand as to why they must use their skills and each others The Coaches have to provide game plans and strategies built around the skills of the players and against the opposition the coaches have to provide training programs that instill practices that become instinctive into the players the coaches should be watching other sides playing and instruct the players what is required the coaches should have the respect of players who will then do what is expected.

I agree with what you say. He has the skill set, should not need more time. Certainly plays soft most of the time. I have seen him contest and have have seen him tackle and even 2nd and 3rd efforts, BUT he like the whole side it seems have lost any enthusiasm for the game. Where is the intensity and competitive effort? why dont our coaching staff concentrate on this. I obviously dont get to training but reckon these boys should be training at an intensity level early in the week that they leave the field absolutely spent. Watch some (any) of the other teams at this level and see how they contest. This is a coaching issue. using the skill and improving it making game patterns around and with the skill sets inspiring intensity and will to win. Yes it is within and expressed more overtly by some eg Viney Jones clark but the coach needs to use that intensity correctly as well. I am going to next weeks game and will be watching closely and carefully. I will be expressing my thoughts more clearly and loudly I will display my passion proudly and hope that the players display similar, a definite improvement on last week is needed intensity and energy is where it starts. Watts will certainly be in my vision as I have been a supporter of his and think I can understand his frustration. I do not expect him to win every contest every time and understand he can be inconsistent Next week he must run hard and play hard and use his skills to maximum. I would like his teammates to do the same and use him, demand this of him, but allow him space, protect him when required, show some bloody passion. I reckon he can deliver and the side can be better than it is I reckon we need a coach who understands that and can get the result through better selection, positioning, strategies and tactics. A good coach needs Watts also so please be careful in releasing him.

continue to support with the knowledge that we need a new coach and the hope that we appoint the right one to shake the bejeesus out of the players we have by applying improved strategies. tactics and placement.

Heres some of our problem Even if you are exaggerating "an excellent rebounding backman: where do we play him ??? in the midfield give him some tagging skills FFS USE THE SKILLS THEY HAVE FIRST (yes I know Im shouting) for so long we have taken players with a talent and tried to make them into a complete footballer. instead of using the skill they have we try and modify them . I had hoped Craig would recognise which skill to use where and when and undo some of the mental frailty exposed by Neeld as he identified weaknesses while ignoring strengths. I guess I am optimistic but I can see plenty of strength that needs to be developed while figuring out how to negate the weaknesses. The description of our mid field patterns in another post is indicative of failure of the coaching. Lets get that right ( thats a whimper almost)
-
All theses comments make me wonder why Magner is only playing at Casey. He seemed to perform ok but it was reported that neeld and others(???Craig ) thought he was too slow and tried to develop more run and defensive skill??? If he can get the ball 30 and give it to Toumpas etc maybe we could overcome 2 problems Is Couch a heavier more experienced body worth a go can we rotate these older harder guys with the younger boys to get some mid field presence and give our forwards a bit more of the ball????
-
This could be the real test for the coach The right selections The right match ups The team plan The recognition and use of existing skills The ability to get the selections to perform to the best of their ability The right game plan and The understanding of all the above to have confidence in alternative strategies Sorry I cannot believe that our list cannot kick more than 4 goals in a game. I laughed when the Myrtleford coach, his team resoundingly beaten by Yarrawonga, claimed the pigeons would beat Melbourne Now Im not so sure Craig may only be interim but the coach and the players are playing for their futures they must do better All assistant coaches are in this same boat which looks like the titanic Rant over

Casey leading by 21 points is more of a height than we get from the Dees Casey Thanks again for your reports
-
dont know that we are underfunded ? perhaps put our funds into unproductive uses or areas that didnt get adequate ROI or under resourced ? I think we have a good collection of high draft picks perhaps just a little experience light and under developed and no mid field It seems the ability to get the best from the reources use them wisely and respond to match day conditions is the key Laidley appeared to have that ability so too Eade but Williams is the only one, Roos aside, to have taken the flag. I reckon that is a major factor I await the decision of whatever panel and their reasoning for appointment

I am I do every week and have furious debate with fellow demon supporter who thinks tipping is about winning. it does explain why he is near the top and I am near the bottom on the pubs ladder I continue to tip the most advantageous results to get us near the top so far this strategy is not working
-
This is probably true WA, SA were footy inclined same as tassie, NSW and Qld were alternative code the AFL expanded from its Vic base to grow its reach and market and therefore finances, It ploughed money into Qland and Stdney as they did not have a healthy state base but the AFL clubs really didnt explode until the state based club won a flag. Eagles Crows and Swans all won a flag and improved their support base and income streams Port also improved with a flag. Bbane had prolonged flag success to establish itself. It is no surprise that Freemantle GWS and Suns would be ahead of us on the list "must win flag" to ensure code survival MFC must win despite these and as "Melbourne" can encourage and leverage off the interstate rivalry to compete for those flags better than the suburbs or confected dogs roos etc. It could be our best hope???

Melbourne has moved on from Roos
dpositive replied to red and blue forever's topic in Melbourne Demons
I thought Neeld was ok as an untried option could have been anything but as I have stated he failed. I did like the structure of Craig Neeld as it did provide some insurance for the above. I would like to retain Craig but he does carry some of the Neeld baggage and can he get on with Roos or Williams . Not sure about Roos liked him but would need to know his plan and see his passion increased I would prefer Williams of the others as he may be a bit eccentric but I think that can be good if managed and supported by those around him. He obviously knows how to get the final result. I would also like to get Ling and offer him the midfeild role with a view to taking over when the Craig Williams session is over 3-5 years I would make Williams appointment insistent on finals progress to success in 5 years and if not achieved Craig Ling would takeover if Williams successful he takes Craigs role and Ling takes Coach this provides for succession and also fulfillment as coach and mentor roles. Also allows option for success to be included for coaching role with option to fallback (mentor) if coach not successful I do not really have enough information to make a definitive statement but hope the people making the decision have a clear strategy and can communicate that when announcing any decision. I think more transparency and particularly performance expectations need to be outlined so that there are no surprises. I would expect players to have similar success conditions on their contracts. -
I think your on the right path there Did Simon Gerrans tank ????? was that good for the team spirit of Orica???

Another excellent literary piece from you KC and thanks for all the updates and comments. I did get to see some of the match on TV yesterday and can understand why you have such a positive emotional output. The Scorps are playing well and have many aspects to be positive about. There is no doubt you cannot get the full effect from the screen and I do appreciate your broader insight and the expression of emotion that is displayed with the immeadiacy of your reports. I hope the club keeps providing you with the moments to savour and that you can continue to pass on to us isolated supporters the joys of being there.

I did like the phrase hes no rocket surgeon used by Micallef I think
-
they certainly aren't rocket scientists and are still kids and maybe even naive but when getting injected must have been given a story by someone who they had been told had credibility. the trail may be difficult and lead to some awkward places ala Jobes admission but must be done and yes it may mean EFC has to endure the same treatment that MFC has but like us it can be used to "make us stronger" AFL needs to acknowledge that position in all its actions

Adelaide List manager, Noble, might be in our sights

Thanks Pm24 long time since I was involved intimately in HR. Is a technical argument of unfair dismissal ie true if is sole reason for dismissal and is not genuine but certainly affects the taxation and therefore the actual amount received by the individual and must be genuine for that purpose. -
Confess I have a vested interest in owning a shoe shop but it does indicate the importance of the foot and foot care and why a correctly fitted shoe suitable for use is essential. Comment was made during the Port match that one side had made a decision on stops in anticipation of the weather and were forced to rotate players who changed their shoes when the decision was seen as wrong. Ankle Knee and leg injuries are quite often an outcome of incorrect footwear, Too much, too little or just wrong unit being used in the wrong circumstances. there is a lot more technology in footwear than most people consider It is important that training and match situations have different footwear and different soles for different surfaces can have a big impact. Even the construction of the toe box and the rigidity or suppleness of the leather will have an impact on toe condition. Not to mention lacing which can compensate for different foot structure Specialist insoles can compensate for overuse situations eg where toe is used as significant take off in Jamar case, or in circumstance attributed to Viney (hot spot) Not sure what you can do with dumbell dropping have never heard of safety caps for gym shoes may be an opening Unsure if Melbourne have a preferred boot provider but it could be worth considering and I would assume that we have specialist podiatry consultants within our medical and support team

Dont know that that stifles an unfair dismissal but it certainly affects the tax status of the payment I am unsure of the time limit but it has to be a genuine redundancy to merit tax benefit -
If Spencer gets more weeks than Simpkin then.....

would be interesting to see what penalty a Melb player would get for an off the ball punch to the head of any opposition Key forward. I remember we had someone rubbed out for an attempted trip while opposition were actually able to trip our players without a free kick Saw it again on the weekend where a Melb player had legs taken out by a sliding player umpire did call play on but there was no advantage and therefore no penalty for the trip We do seem to have a different interpretation applied in many circumstances. My far more knowlegable footy mate tells me it is because we are not attacking the ball but I do not agree maybe its the colour of the jumper
