  1. Has this monumental case been reported internationally yet???
  2. I went to a match at Junction oval with my old man when I was under age 7. Remember coz thats when we moved. I barracked for Melbourne from that time and Im 64 this year. Cant remember the glory years as really didnt see many games. By the time I started going to the footy the rot had really set in. A few glorious Daniher years was all I had to overcome the too few fantastic players and bits and pieces seen in that time.
  3. I get it too Man Dee but hate it and especially hate the extended implications which I have been trying to dismiss in an ironic fashion in order to move on I am not a chemist or scientist but I did see a report on TB4 which says it expresses itself as reduced stem cells or some such thing but not enough is known about any natural inhibiting factor. This may be a longer term test of what was taken . I reckon the scientists will be allover this and ASADA will be making more tests to ensure there are no performance enhancing drugs used. The question is when the payouts become too big will the gambling industry demand drug free competition or support drug enhanced (as long as its all done with no evidence).
  4. There may be no evidence of what went in their bodies so what was the program that Essendon self reported? Hey AFL we have this program thats all ok. No banned substances and maybe even cures Cancer. Its just stuff that we told the players was good for them and they believed us. Nothing to see here.
  5. So glad that the winner of the 2012 AFL Brownlow Medal, who admitted that he took some drugs as part of a pharmacological experiment, (reported by his own clubs internal investigator) is glad to move on now having been exonerated as there were no records. His performance was obviously not enhanced because of any program he participated in because there is no record of such a program. What a pity. This is exactly the sort of performance enhancement that drives improvement at all levels
  6. Quote So what records were seized if there were no records of the program? What supplements program was reported to the AFL? Every club/Athlete wants to know the structure of this program so they can skirt protocols.
  7. That would appear to be the result.
  8. The Tribunal had to make a decision which did have greater societal impact than the fate of the 34 AFL players Ie Drugs in sport However this issue will have to judged in a process which is transparent ie for which there is fact and evidence. This is important for every case as the need to prove guilt is the cornerstone of our legal system. The tribunal for whatever reason was not convinced by the evidence presented and have an obligation to make that finding. WADA has different processes and this may be still the problem for players
  9. Gotta feel for Danks He may be a genius and administered non threatening and maybe beneficial treatments that are on the cutting edge of scientific progress maybe even cure cancer. AND HE HAS NO RECORDS!!!!
  10. Depends what drug regimes are followed???? Sorry
  11. Dont know that I can agree with that. The amount of money outlayed by all parties is certainly not an amateur affair. No poor individual or amateur could afford the defences that have been identified let alone those maybe lost with other records. While there may be some emotion my bias is for critical thinking. I certainly understand the limitations of evidence based analysis which does necessarily demand rigour and thoroughness. A bit of critical thinking leads to perhaps a lowering of the bar on drugs in sport. I would think the players complicity in the story would mean they would have no legitimate workcover claim should any unsavoury health impacts arise. There is no proof of any unsafe practice. Anticipate the players provident fund may expanded to support any such event funded through the AFL and TV rights. Gill admits there are questions that will never be answered, which defies the persistence of human behaviour. Someone will crack asthey did with Lance Armstrong. Follow the money that will be the ultimate answer.
  12. Only problem Ron is that we may now play against clubs or with, players with performance enhancing drugs ingested, or injected as long as the records of the substance is lost or obtained from a character who wont appear before any investigating body.
  13. Guilty people get off all the time if evidence is not conclusive or processes or practice is not sound. Every club in AFL and any Australian athletic association can now undertake similar program of cutting edge experimentation using whatever drug they can obtain as long as they destroy the records and have players sign a waiver . All Australian sports people can form their own internal tribunals to absolve them of use on the ground that not comfortably satisfied. We should finally be able to dominate at international level Thank god foe Essendon and James Hird AFL is now more administratively competent than International Cycling and athletic bodies. We have another export industry
  14. Would change the first line to read that the AFL were not comfortably satisfied that players were administered a banned drug.
  15. Doubt workcover will touch it If AFL has not enough evidence they certainly wont find any WADA is the only body that can stop the continuation of pharmacological experimentation without any records being conducted to enhance performance. Or the genie is out of the bottle and the club with the best pharmacist and access to best drug regime wins.
  16. Society's acceptance of and reliance on drugs is the issue. When drugs impact on performance at work it is an issue of safety and output. Sportsmen and AFL players also have responsibilities above others as their employment is subject to immediate scrutiny of gambling and so performance enhancement is an unfair advantage. Perhaps improved recreation may lead to improved performance. We do not want a winner based on the best pharmacueticals although we are heading rapidly in that direction.
  17. I agree that he seems to have earned it and a debut against the Suns with a younger group would be better than a debut against hardened older Collingwood or Essendon thugs. Even so would make sure fellow experienced players such as Cross or Dunn are given latitude to respond to any unnecessary violence. The team must make sure that they protect each other. Perhaps this is a lesson they need to learn when giving off a handball etc. I would hope that Miller has been showing the forward line how to make and provide space that was what he appeared to do so well.
  18. Quote "He may never play again but that marks gonna live on forever"
  19. How about intensity? One thing TDI do the boys leave the track exhausted or are they training to a fitness level. I am concerned about inability to maintain intensity for the 4 quarters and especially to maintain skills when tired at the end of the 4 quarters. I like to see th players exhausted at the end of a game testifying that they had played to their limit.
  20. Sorry I accept that the original post did refer to the Melbourne players, I did not realise that these were all injured. Still would have thought that managemnt of their level would have seen them replaced to finish a game. Still its only a practice and if we have found out more then all good.
  21. It really is a concern when these professionals are "short of a gallop" That there is now a growing list of 3/4 games would seem to indicate that they need to train for 5/4. The premiership quarter was always seen as the 3rd but games are now played to the end and even a large difference can be quickly erased. Our boys need to train harder longer. to play 4/4 every game.
  22. Like the WE ARE MELBOURNE that is the link to our history and our survival. Now need the players to concentrate for the full game and WIN
  23. It would appear that we do have agame plan that can score quickly or at least get the ball into our forward 50. The final stages of our practice matches and even Casey saw the hard work dissolve in the final quarter. We have had a problem stopping a run on by oppositions for many years. When despite having some good passages we are blown away in 10 or 15 minutes of sustained play from opponents. I hope the coaches are working on that defensive side of the game. Only older experienced players can usually do it so I hope not too many new players against a young but getting more experienced side
