  1. "MELBOURNE" Cricket Ground "THE" home of Football Some "branding" image for Cameron
  2. This is a great post HR I am relying on the coaches to explain the complexities to the players, utilise the components that the players come with, enhance the skills that they need and select them for the game plan for the opponent that day. I am hoping that the practice matches have been to continue the recognition and definition process. I have said on other threads That I hope Neeld is not a one trick pony as the complexity of the game has to have more than 1 structure and I believe that the players are smart enough to comprehend more than one strategy. I See that we are rebuilding but hope we do not become again transfixed with the rebuild at the expense of success I am still optimistic Go Dees
  3. Love the repartee. Wasn't the song Up Up and Away???
  4. It probably depends upon the particular model adopted by the (did he say entertaining or amusing ?) fellow conducting tests. The fact that he refferred directly to the players probably means Hard arsed bastard as you intimate. He seemed pleased enough with that result. 97.5% shows an overwhelming concentration so I hope it was a good quartile. and wouldnt it be fantastic to know where the others fell Althougn I have always been slightly sceptical of any personality or psych testing methods being conclusive of anything other than a result on that day and under those circumstances. I would imagine Jurrah results would have fluctuated in recent times.
  5. Great work OD It will be interesting to see how the additional crash and bash Clark forward and other players around him fashion his game. With his apparent run and flexibility(atheliticism) he may become an interesting link option. Of course this is dependant on other players using him and coaching strategies requiring that role. Many posters have identified him as a fast lead option and again players and strategies must use that. I recall many decoy forwards who were recognised being as valuable for their team as the star Jack may fullfill this type of role. As long as he complements the team and does what is required He will satisfy the ranking Ultimately it will be up to the coaches, hope they can recognise and utilise his talents.
  6. Great post Thanks Cam and excellent contributions by all Very positive Go Dees
  7. From Training reports and many comments on this thread this boy does have some attributes. There has been much discussion about development and I believe here is a case in point. Throwing him in front of Franklin may or may not develop him. I would think the support of players around him would indicate wether that is a good or bad thing. Certainly there are games where the opponent and the structure of the team on that day could be suitable to allow him to benefit from his existing skills and improve them and other occasions where he may be sacrificed to be developed.
  8. Would hope that this is a further use of the practice arena to utilise the features of the squad. Maybe more of a run at Casey at a lower level to fine tune and yes rest for round 1 if needed. Probably needs to give Green a run Paterns systems structures all need to be trialled. I hope we have more than one We cannot play all players in every match I think rotation could be a good asset as long as we win a few games with the team and pattern we choose for the particular opponent.
  9. It is a little disconcerting BUT maybe there is little damage if the spoonsor is big enough and happy with delay. There may even be better sales and promotion after a few wins on the feild. Alternatively there may be merit in seeking a number of smaller sponsorships 5X100 =1x500 Melbourne BANK, MYER Melbourne and any other firm that includes Melbourne in their title could be worth pursuuing I have spoken to the club re approaching Emu Australia (Sheepskin fashion) and often think while watching international sports of the sponsorships of those round the ground or cycling teams who may have an interest in Australia I think theres plenty of potential but its a bloody hard time to get money from anyone so I understand the difficulty of the club and dont think I would be putting anyone to the sword. Undoubtably we need some success on the field to help
  10. While I agree that umpires have bad days and inconsistent performances Lets Not ever refer to them in derogatory terms such as maggotts No matter how difficult it is they do control a game and there is little point in antagonising them. I think we do need to get the support of the umpires by being in front playing hard but fair and accepting not disputing their apparent errors. We could get the umpires to the club to review our tackling as we seem to give a lot of high tackles and in the backs while receiving few. Our errors seem to be penalised even commentators call them while we receive little benefit from opposition errors.
  11. 2008-2011 not a complete waste of time but perhaps a wasted opportunity and I have said we have a new coach with a different approach to development. The old approach was seen to fail. I too dont want to see another period of rebuilding without progress. that progress will need success round 2 might be a little early to tell.
  12. Recruiting>We have plenty of stars recruited at high picks which were established by the industry not just MelbFC Coaching> we have a new coach with a different approach to development Role Models> our club champions and new coaches are well known to players and community Soft culture>Softness need not be a synonym for defeat, it is a necessary part of emotive mix. Lack of hardness is being adressed. Both need to be applied at appropriate times. It is good to have expectations for all players to give them something to strive for, its the best /only way to get improvement Star is a relative term I still havent seen enough of the new team playres structures etc to make a definitive analysis of where we are relative to Bailey I thought Neeld acknowledged that we were inexperienced by refering to the experience of Hawks So I agree!
  13. Just for the record what does Darling weigh now? What will be the inpact of both putting on some muscle? ie will it slow Cook?Darling down?
  14. OR the time to view how the club handles this issue Professionally handled, dealing calmly and realistically about the/our position can be reassuring for a potential sponsor. Publicity about the club can reflect the Brand of both club and sponsor. Authority Confidence Leadership can be displayed in many ways and without spinning it, can be emphasised for positive outcomes. EG The club expected with its list being developed that it would discover more about its players from the hard contest received with Hawthorn. The club has dealt with defeat for some time and is using that to spur on our taste for more victories. We will have some victories and some defeats but from all of this we will learn more about ourselves. We are using the NAb cup to complement our training programs and have tested some structures and strategies. The Jurrah story could also have many positive aspects displayed although like many I believe that extreme care should be taken I have said and pleased to repeat given further statements that I believe the club has handled the whole saga well. Thier actions reflect well on the club and should impress any potential sponsor,
  15. WE do have "a lot of talented players" Surely a good coach will use that resource. Mick says of Neeld 'he’ll have a game structure that is tried and proven", I hope hes not a one trick pony trying to ues a "tried and true structure" with the wrong player types or we are due for another prolonged period of rebuilding. I have seen other reports of strengths of players and have seen evidence of depth and competitiveness for positions Where did that optimism go? 1 match against Hawks!! Its going to be an interesting season for sure.
  16. Thanks Maldon Boy thats exactly the comment I needed, and Choko also.
  17. I am not at all blaming the umpires. I was really referring to the way we play. Someone suggested Daveys hands in the back needs consideration and perhaps protecting a space does inhibit your ability to get in front of an opponent. There are many mentions throughut the threads of need to attack the ball and perhaps measured aggression needs some consideration. What analysis is done of umpiring decisions??? ie not just numbers how why when and where inplay???
  18. Thanks fork and what a complex venture life is.
  19. Have just finished reading reports of last night game, and press releases before I commented. Thanks for all contributors. Many expressions that I really really recognised and many that I have touched on in my responses in other threads. It just got me thinking. 1 Depth??? I thought it was there from training reports but now that the game has started really wonder 2 Development??? I hope that the NAB cup is a continuation of training as many state and is viewed by all coaches and players as such 3 Playing stategies???? Did we have a false sense of reality with the Collingwwod model? do we have Plan B/C/...H? to counter other teams? Jeremy Howe talked about the structure not working. Can we recognise and quickly apply another plan when one isnt working? 4 The Umpires??? For many years I have watched and heard commentators in confusion over interpretations that we have consistently suffered. It seems that the trend is continuing. Free kicks can be significant and impact on scoreboard results. A mate of mine who has played coached and loves footy (but is not a Melb supporter) has always accised me of bias and is probably partly correct and has always stated that the player in front going for the ball etc will always get the advantage of the free kick. I propose many occasions when this does not happen to our players.Do we have an opportunity to invite the umpires to help us play improved footy and have their support for our style of play?? something positive so we dont have to complain about the apparent inconsistencies which I saw in many reports fom the few games we have played. 5 Future success??? Success is such a fleeting thing and many of us have been waiting for so long I see the future as tomorrow and thereafter so would like to see the success in a more tangible fashion and at least expressed as such. As our coaches and players are new and are better educated and therefore hopefully able to make the transitions to success, learning more complexity more quickly and giving my optimism the needed spark Sorry to bother you like Big Jim on another thread I probably just wanted to share this from the isolation of my despair, I feel better already!!!
  20. Thanks DL7 and KC its great to get your impressions and insights.
  21. Lots to like in what you say Ben-Hur but while Watts may be found out presently he may also be found The skills and attitude he has presently can still be used within a specific team structure and strategy, He may never be required to be the Bash and crash type you identified. Im not sure that there are many even the listed elite in other threads who have every aspect of the sport contained in the one package. Perhaps its more about using the skills, gift you have to get the most effective result. Im sobered by what is written and trust that Watts can sort the wheat from the chaff with the help of his coaches and teammates. I still think its an exciting time of development for the individual and the team. Perhaps it does introduce the question of wether the player makes the coach or the coach makes the player
  22. Again another good getAnd thanks for the Hawks squad earlier. I think HAwks small forwards will still have plenty of bulk for us
  23. Good get Jamar and Martin should give us an edge!
