  1. I hate Hawthorn supporters because they didn't know the draft was on.

Melbourne supporters look forward to it every year.

I look forward to next year finishing 9th and not knowing when the draft is on.

Everyone forgets how recent this is.(in old person terms). Hawthorn were a shambles in 2005 and we were the highest finishing Victorian club. ADMINISTRATION is what they got right and what we now enjoy with PJ at the helm.

Hawthorn supporters are the most arrogant wankers in the competition. They are the worst losers (what do I care) and the worst winners (we were always the best so stuff you).

The true spirit of Kennet. Only domination will do and if we don't manage that it is everyone else's fault.

When our success comes, and I am clearly an eternal optimist, I very much hope our years of longing lead to humility.

  2. I am an optimist. Every year I find hope in our choices of board members, coaches (did you see what Neeld did at Ocean Grove) and players.

If I did not believe the best well, where would I be, embittered I would think from my contact with far more realistic supporters.

However can I say that spring has sprung.

By any measure quite removed from my delusional fantasies the general "experts" think we are winners.

    No speculative choices. Best available.

    Joy.

  3. And Brayshaw is a big frame upon which to build muscle. Potential is an overused and debased word. What is the base? Whatever you want is yours if you want it enough. Well NO.

Where you start has to give you a substantial advantage.

Our drafting this year has given us young men that start with physical ability, the gift, and bring the determination. the critical element.

    May they prosper.

  4. Ah the never ending debate on where Jones is ranked. B+, A, A+, or star (although I don't think many rate him as star).

Jones is an A-grader IMO, he'd be a walk up in any team in the comp and fit in nicely. What he does isn't made better by the fact that we're average, in fact if he had better players around him it would probably (and hopefully will) make him better.

He's been paid unders for a while, pay him a bit over or give him an extra year as a repayment for sticking fat and being one of the guys driving the change. Just front end it so we can cover the others when they hit their straps.

Entirely agree. A great citizen, one of the few (if only) clear consistent 100% total effort players we have had recently.

Through coaching changes, deaths, administrative turmoil and an ever changing list he has relentlessly worked to make himself a better player for the Melbourne Football Club.

    Heart and soul.

  5. No personal ego is what makes Emma the best. Her articles are about what makes each candidate an individual. She is fascinated by the extraordinary range of personal experiences that lead to a young boy being so committed to a game that they, as teenagers, work way beyond average behavior.

    She is a treasure.

  6. It seems like a great many of us were blue sky junkies for quite a few years there and the defection of Scully and the injury to Trengove and the disappointment surrounding Watts, Blease, Strauss, Tapscott and Cook meant that when we came down, we came down hard. We re-surfaced from rehab with a cynical new approach and a pragmatism that highlighted the need to be competitive with re-cycled players. Our premiership plans were shelved and our desire to simply survive kicked in. Now, there's a new sense of optimism in the air. I hope the new drugs are better than the old [censored].

A bit like that shot full of holes crash and burn logo thing at the start of MFC site clips.
  7. Apart from Oscar everything has been midfield thus far. If we don't like speculative talls in the primary draft here is the place to have a go. Given our choices Casey will not have a shortage of midfielders so lets try for a big guy.

  8. The same for me. I was waiting, absolutely sure we'd be calling him at 40 if he lasted. I was gutted when they didn't and then somehow he slipped all the way to 53. I have no idea how that happened except that a few players were available later than anticipated due to a few surprises from Carlton and the Doggies. I have to give credit to the team for getting things right given that he did fall all the way down and we still got our man. Obviously they had a pretty good idea of how things were going to pan out.

    Competence.

  9. The wife thought is was as exciting as watching grass grow. I thought it was like the lights going on.

Oscar at the end was as thrilling as the start.

Now the coaches have to make it happen.

And I now have faith in the coaches.

Please God (I am a non believer) don't blow this guys.

  10. Huge vote of confidence in big Maxy's knees and ability to hand him the number 11. He's a fan favorite - especially with the kids so the best of luck to him.

Out of curiosity, look likes every player to don the number 11 since Jimmy has been a ruckman: Simmonds, Jolly, Johnson, Clark now Gawn. Anyone know of another club that has a positional jumper tradition number like this?

Not positional but Port captains always No1.
  11. You are joking.. I really don't like abuse and have rarely posted having been subjected to the same but this is stupidity beyond comprehension. One of our best who has sacrificed his "glory" instincts to place himself in front of leading forwards at great personal risk to intercept passes (check the numbers). Extraordinary post.
