Unless I missed something, all three of the Bulldogs emergencies for today's game played for their VFL team yesterday and were named in their best players. They didn't even hold back a player for today. I doubt there will be a late call up.

    BEST:

Footscray Bulldogs: Jong Dalgleish Dunkley Hamilton Honeychurch Webb

Probably. Just passing on what I was told.

  2. I've just watched the 1st half again. You can't be reactive to half a game and cut blokes off that considering last week we were playing finals and everybody was a superstar.

1st half- Lamumba has not made a mistake, he has done what he does, and what he was praised for when we win

Petracca has 10 at halftime on debut, will hopefully never play 2s again

wagner has competed and been good

Bugg has been one of our best

dont rule Salem out, Stef Martin was knocked into his grave and played the next week

Minimal changes for me. Hunt could go back and sharpen up, frost is either backline or out, must not have had a touch after qtr time.

Michie has earnt another go, hbf, and Trenners in

  3. It's best 22 every week. You don't stay in the team just because the team won the week before.

Petracca in for Frost, adds another weapon up forward for us

Oliver in for Brayshaw, he has shown better form that him, so the spot is his

That's the way I saw Bugg's game.  He would have been a walk up start for every game over the last 5 seasons, but now that level of untidiness in disposal won't keep getting you a game.

    Agree on Frost too.

You don't get dropped after 29 and 9 tackles in a win....... It's illegal

Yeah you're right, they certainly got it right last week.

This type of thinking is ridiculous - 1) taking this approach we may as well shut down the forum as we'd have nothing left to discuss and 2) this kind of thinking (that those in positions of power know better than us) is what has got us in trouble in the past.

Looks like they knew what they where doing. He was sensational today.

Anyone know? Is getting around on crutches iced up and putting some weight through the knee consistent with ACL?

I walked off the ground after my second. Generally very painful at first, then nothing as a complete rupture includes ruptured nerves. The pain is usually from the dislocation that comes with it. Walking, even jogging after it means nothing. The structural test they do can confirm u have done it but can't confirm u haven't as the muscles spasm and lock everything in place. He would know, if he's done it before.

  7. didnt say there's no room for criticism at all actually, responded to a post that said if we can't criticise we would have nothing to talk about.

And I'm not all sunshine and roses, I just think it's poor to say the coaches have lost the plot for giving a kid a debut before he's even played a game. He could come out and have 25 and give us some run off half back a couple games in a row and Roos would be a genius for selecting him. Bit of positivity goes a long way, especially from SUPPORTERS.

I manage about 150 people, and I learnt a while ago that your environment can often end up being a direct reflection of your attitude towards it. Theirs enough bagging MFC in the media without the fans constantly turning on the club aswell.

Anyway, best of luck to the kid, Hope he has a cracker on debut and helps drag us over the line (and snots Thomas at some stage)

Yeh your right, if we can't be negative all the time why have forums? It's not like Oliver has had a fantastic start to the season, Trenners is on the verge of an amazing comeback, Petracca could debut any week now, we won 5 matches in a row, Gawn has a chance to put his hand up against Goldstien for the #1 this week, we are about to have record membership, etc etc. forums are simply for using hindsight to criticise MFC players and coaches

I reckon they've lost the plot.

Inconsistent messaging now twice in a row. They keep banging on about bringing up ready players in good form from the VFL.

My count is (1) Brayshaw. Yes, best 22 but clearly not ready and zero seconds form to go on. (2) Wagner. Exposed form very dicey and others have been much better performed in the VFL games.

Fine to experiment etc, but don't then give us but, more importantly the players, mixed messages. Guys like ANB must be spewing.

Any chance a premiership coach who deals with these players daily has a better idea if he is ready for a game than fans on a forum? We have no idea what role Roos had in mind for him. Even if it is a strategic plan to give him a brief taste of afl early in the season to fire up he develop, I'd be all for that. These guys are experts in their field, we are Joe blows with nothing better to do than criticise anyone we can after one loss and praise the world after a win

Yes I understand,  but at our stage you also have to consider the players situation, if he is battling with issues?  his body language speaks like yelling its not him, so he is struggling with something?  the coaches no doubt will know?

He looks to me like its really effecting him.  we can all see that.  So if he doesn't start to find form & satisfaction I wonder if he's get a week off?  I think after North we have some teams in our area of the ladder coming up?

We need to get maturity into the Midfield and that's an option for Hogan as well if things stay tough.   Even a run as 2nd ruck to get him away from the number 1 defender, whilst he finds some rhythm on the ball?

So when Hogan gets a run on ball,  Gawn can go to the forward pocket with Watts in the square leading about,  really changing up the matchups for they're defence.

Re resting Hogan for a week,,  =  Watts in goalsquare leadup,  TMac @ chf leadup,  &  Pedo F/Pocket & 2nd ruck,,,,,  Dunn & Garland in defence with either Frost or Omac as the other tall defender.

Situation? Issues? He's a 21 year old who's been a beast his whole football life and coming off a rising star and enormous media scrutiny and is simply frustrated at his own form. He will be fine. He's one early goal away from all the pressure dissapearing.

Kent is arguably the biggest mystery out of that game. What happened for his output to be SO down?

Remember this is the bloke that our captain nominated as THE standout performer in pre-season.

He is not an accumulator at all. Either not smart enough, or too lazy or a combination of both. He has never racked up big numbers, even at VFL level. Ball in hand he is damaging, but we've all played footy with those blokes who are sensational trainers but on game day...........

  12. Just watched the tv coverage for the first time as I was there Saturday. Matt Jones did nothing wrong all game, and was creative when he had it. He stays

Pedo was working hard and leading to come good spots, couple big hits and acceptable when in the ruck. Stays

Harmes did some good things, great pressure, he should stay

    Omac out for Dunny

So who you push out for Brayshaw I would not have a clue but he has to come in, and I would really like H to come in aswell. Maybe frost and Kent/harmes but structurally that doesn't work. What a great problem to have for the first time in years!

PS- Watts did things he has never done for Melbourne before. Explosive and evasive through traffic! Vanders is going to be  a superstar, does so much right!

    Dees by 24pts.

Hogan with 4. Gawn 7 marks and 437 hit outs. Oliver 27 possies.

Demonland goes into meltdown and crashes. There are riots in the streets.

Please don't put Gawn and any number close to 426 in the same sentence

  14. Didn't think we really played well, or moved the ball forward well..... We simply won/dominated because we won the contested ball for large periods of the day..... And I couldn't be happier! Tough, ruthless aggressive footy. So many individuals were good. Add Jones, Vince, Petracca, Lumumba, Trengrove, Brayshaw, Dawes (?????) to competition for spots and cut 4 from today's performance down to 22 and it's genuinely tight for spots. Exciting

oh yeh, Gawn is All Australian if he gets through he year

  15. I went down, just my quick opinions-

Harmes in everything, tough clean and creative in the midfield
Watts linking up high, a lot of long leads and delivering to the deep Fwds. This role suits his game
Salem superstar, deadset gun across half back, use was top quality
Kennedy looks sharp, fast, and cracks in.didn't get heaps of it, but would be a contributor
OMac is a player, he will get games this year.
Kent Gun, involved in everything. Damaging left, tough and racked up possessions through middle and fwd
Tmac holding the ball 3 times, but was good
Grimes was good, he is best 22
    I saw hogan kick 4
Tyson gets a lot of contested ball, didn't use it real well though
If Gawn goes down were buggered, he got a lot of ball and dominated taps but had no competition
