  1. I'd rather make him go into the draft and see him end up at GWS than accept a second round pick, the pies made us give up 20 for dawes, surely Watts is a much better prospect than him, maybe we include steak knives and get their first round pick?

although i don't believe for a second this is a done deal, last week PJ said he would be surprised if Watts wasn't a demon next year, both parties obviously believe they're a chance.

If this eventuates, and it happens that we are in the position to pick Watts up in the draft, is this allowed? Are there rules against picking up a player who wont re-sign?

  2. There is no evidence whatsoever that tanking has adversely affected Carlton or Melbourne. There's so many millions of other variables that affect how teams play that it's ridiculous to blame it on just one.

The truth is that we will never know the impact that tanking had on either club because there is no way of measuring it. The best we can do is guess, which is equal to just making stuff up.

My concern is that making a team tank contradicts the reason anyone plays sport in the first place- the passion, and enjoyment it provides. If you're being told to play to lose, where does that passion go? And the desire to win? Especially with an impressionable young squad the accountability for not playing to the best of its ability flies out the window. You are right though. It's a subjective affair and not statistically measurable.

  3. What about Lucas "sticky hands" Cook??

He will be our Cloke. Its not as if we are finals bound anytime soon. Id rather persist with Cook as our FF as IMO he will be a gun. Why would Cloke want to come to the Dee's anyway?? In all seriousness we have won one game for the year, we arent going to attract superstars anytime soon.

If its true Cloke has knocked back an assumed large (but not large enough) deal from a grand final contending team, playing glory probably isn't his foremost priority. That or he's just ribbing eddie

  4. The football equivalent of your analogy is that you turn up to training during the week and the players don't know what to do.

A better analogy would be that it's like giving that piece to an orchestra and they finish last in a competition against other orchestras that have been playing the same peice for many years.

Are you disappointed? Yes. Is it understandable? Yes.

And, our musicians are for the most part less able and less willing

  5. Viney is my silver lining.. he is going to make this club look so much better just wait and see. Bring in Viney, another couple of classy mids, try desperately to get Dangerfield on board (wishful thinking probably) and all of a sudden we look better.

Drafting a few mids and bunging in a star is not the answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We (the club) need to work with what we've got. If the drafting system were an absolute simple model, bottom and top teams would fluctuate and mid table teams would remain in the mid. And the whole ladder would be in one gentle equilibrium. But we all know how you can't rely on the draft to deliver success. The players have to learn to operate as one body. And that takes time and games playing together without a list that is constantly being gutted and mashed around

  6. At least 2 weeks helping out in the ruck (after some decent coaching from a former ruck great or whoever our ruck coach is ...assuming we have one). Probably need assistance in the ruck anyway to help out at VFL level with Fitzy moving upstairs. Assuming he does what's asked and hits the contest hard, spreads well, gets to plenty of other contests (impacting them) etc...then take him to the next step (below). No he aint no ruckman, but there's absolutely no where to hide in the middle and some around the ground work going for the ball up. He either brings the attack, intensity and uses his body (to the best of his capability/strength at this point of his early development) or he don't. Don't even need him to beat his opponent as such. It's the intensity, attack and fearlessness i'd be looking for. In fact he'll probably get smashed in that role. But that's ok (subject to no major injury of course).

    I concur

  7. Cam Mooney spoke about Geelong on the radio recently and how early on in Bomba Thompson's time, he, Ling, Chapman, Enright, Bartel, Corey, Steve Johnson and Mackie all played games when they didn't deserve them at times, but then bang, when they all hit 100 and surpassed 100 games, it just clicked. Food for thought.

Definitely for the benefit of Geelong that they showed their faith in Thompson and extended his contract amidst those few shaky seasons pre early 07
