Chris Connolly believes that Watts and Morton are the two most important players on our list. I agree with him. We've been crying out for stars for 30 years and I genuinely believe that these two have that potential. Some on here don't see Morton as a potential star and that's fair enough, but I believe that he has the talent to become one with the right dedication and management. He's grown to 194cms, has elite endurance as evidenced by his 15+ beep test, and I like the way he thinks through traffic. He has creativity. What I don't know is how he's going to fill out. He's key position height, but will he ever have a key position physique ? I'm a believer that your best players end up in the forward line. So ultimately I see him as a forward, but with his tank he'll always be able to have a run on-ball. I don't see him as a crash and bash forward obviously, but I do see him developing into a marking tall/utility.

He has done nothing to show me why he went number 1 pick

Because you compared him to other "1st picks". You said "Watts was far behind those other 1st picks". Timmy wasn't inferring that you used the Brown comparison. In fact he said "at the start of the thread" someone used Brown as a comparison. He then asked you a series of questions starting with "Watts is far behind - in what respect?", ......, ......., Maybe I should go a little easier on you. You're clearly out of your depth if you can't comprehend Tim's question to you and why he asked it. -

"One poster at towards the start of this thread mentioned JBrown and his efforts. Watts is far behind - in what respect? Physical development? Reading of the game? Ability to play in the team? Ability to play his position? Ability to make decisions on field? Total developement relative to potential? Behind relative to midfielders or KPP draftees?" This is his question to you. Surely you don't need spoon feeding. -
What is that taste in my mouth ?

There's nothing to clarify. It's not hard to comprehend what he's asking. -
I agree. If he was on Geelong's list he probably wouldn't have played a game yet. These matches we're getting into him will be invaluable in years to come. Will be very good for us in his prime years 23-28.

Why don't you answer Tim's questions ? You can do it. -
How come I know what you're going to post before you do ? You're predictably boring these days. Why don't you surprise me and share some really good footy insight ? waiting....

Anyone who loves the club would feel sick by such an insipid performance. That said, I'm going to be patient this year. What other choices are there ? We need stars and we need them quickly. Our best chance of procuring stars is through the pointy end of the draft. The expectation of getting a couple of top 3 picks helps keep morale up. It's not the issue of tanking, it's the issue of getting better. And we know what will help us get better. So patience is required in 09. But it will be a different story in 2010. I will be out of patience next year if we don't see some measurable improvement.

Wow Warren ! You must have creamed your dacks when you spotted this. One of your better posts. No, in fact, your best post. Now, back under that rock.

Of course he should have had 2 goals on debut. My boy's under 10's football team would have shepherded one goal through for him. Jurrah - a potential star.

I've been noticing a new phenomenon from generation Y and it's prevalent in the OP. And it's not that they think they're "versing" everyone, it's their incorrect use of the word "his". Often they really mean "he's" as in "he is", but they type "his". Staggering really. But I digress. Watts will be a gem of a footballer. If you can't see it now that's ok, but the player you witness today you won't recognise in 3-5 years time. I'm more concerned by our skill level and woeful midfield. More than ever I think we need 2 mids with whatever top 4 picks we receive at year's end. I've got no problem with Butcher if 'he's' (or should I say "his" so that some understand me) a clear standout, as top quality kpps are as rare as hen's teeth, but if there's any doubt I'd go with a mid to compliment Scully. I think we have the worst midfield I've ever seen.

Green is doing things now that he didn't do at the beginning of his career, but he was never soft. Bruce was soft and still is soft, but Green was never soft.

Great thread. -
Out of everyone Bruce infuriated me the most tonight. He is supposed to be a senior player, yet he doesn't lead the way. His turnovers and poor disposal under pressure is pathetic. I know he's a whipping boy for some - tonight with good reason. Despite the amount of ball he had. A terrible night. It's mind boggling how bad we are.

I'm getting old.

Perhaps it was the sanctimonious nature of your post that caused some angst. Fwiw, I'm not doubting some of what you say, but professional footballers understand the gig. It's all about that white line.
-
Two things, Genius. 1. Every club has players playing that are carrying/managing injuries. 2. Once you cross that white line I'll judge you accordingly. Thanks

The place is disgusting. Hate the joint.

On the surface my comment may seem extreme. Perhaps it seemed like misplaced hyperbole. The 'unthinking' might have even got a 'laugh', but I'm deadly serious. Bailey has a charter to take this club to a premiership. Nothing less. It's all that matters. If he needlessly and clumsily lets a priority pick fall through his fingers he's compromising the one thing this club covets, and the one thing that will help* preserve its future - a flag. Of course it doesn't mean we'll win a flag if we secure the PP, but there's no question that it's a massive fillip in our rebuild. This club hasn't had a genuine star midfielder since the AFL was formed in 1990. In fact, it hasn't had a genuine star fullstop. You get a couple of stars in the side and just watch players improve around them. Many players are capable of being A graders in a team like Geelong, but you put those same players in Melbourne's side and they'll look average. Stars make players around them better. Scully may not become a star, but by all reports he's certainly even money to do so and would be invaluable in our quest to build towards a flag. In fact he's a must. So I'm gald my post "made your day". Perhaps you had a good chortle. Maybe even a guffaw. Bully for you. Getting the PP will 'make my decade'. *And yes, a flag isn't any guarantee for future survival and North won a couple 10 years ago and are still withering on the wine (for the obvious nuffies).
-
If we win 5 matches Bailey should be sacked. And if we miss out on Scully I reckon I'll just about be over footy.

Anyone that rates Newton, I don't rate.

As a forward Martin makes a good backman. He's no forward in my book.
