Moloney, Bruce and MacDonald wouldn't. Sylvia and Davey would. So ? I bring up Jones, because by the time we're a genuine challenger I don't believe he'll be best 22. And if he is I doubt we'll have a good enough midfielder to win a flag. I expect players like Gysberts, Tapscott and Blease to be in the side over the next year and someone has to make way. We need to get better. We need better players than Jones. I'm more than happy to keep him, btw, but expect to see him in and out over the coming years.

Clubs are quite protective of any niggles that players may have and probably wouldn't appreciate this thread.
-
Not as horrid as I was expecting. Did nothing in the first, but got quite a bit of the ball from there. His kicking is very ordinary, especially under pressure, but he won some good footy at centre bounce clearances. Not the worst player I've seen, but C grade AFL level is best he could hope for.

Then be a good Boy and do what you were asked. Post the quotes.

Who has "bashed him" ? Quotes please.

We all want the same outcome, a flag. I don't see Jones as a premiership mdifielder. Would he get a game in Geelong's midfield ? Would he have got a game in Brisbane's triple premiership team ? Btw, that's not to say that he's not better than some players that have played in premierships. For me it's a good thing that he's now struggling. Supporters should be happy that spots are tight. As you say, time will tell.

Miller kicking 10 only highlights the massive gulf between VFL and AFL. Miller dropped some marks he should have taken. I wouldn't get carried away with his performance. There's a reason he's playing down at Casey. I wouldn't put him anywhere near the red and blue.

You mean that I was interested in one-upmanship even back then ? I must say that it was amusing to see Hazy wrong - again. And I had a little chuckle when I saw that Rhino had hitched himself to Hazy's wagon.

Loved it, but I had dry eyes.

No reassessing needed. I'm quite aware of his capabilities. He's a C grader with occasional B grade days. I love his heart and commitment, but I also realise his limitations. In time you'll realise that the club does too. I only care about one thing and that's winning a flag. I very much doubt that Jones will be in that premiership team. He may help us get to that last day in Sept (Oct) and he may even play depending on injuries, but he'll become peripheral. That doesn't mean that I don't like him, or that I don't admire him, or that I don't recognise that he's played very good games occasionally. It means that I see better players in our midfield and that I recognise that we need better players in our midfield to win a flag. It's all about the flag, champ.

There's a reason why he has 4 people hanging off his back. It will dawn on you one day.

He's not good at making quick decisions and his executing under pressure isn't as clean as some. And when he's not pinged for 'holding the ball' it results in a ball-up, as opposed to a great give-off. Btw, I have watched him and he's been ok, but that doesn't mean he warrants a place in the team. And he may well be sore, but he's also border line best. Thankfully. When he struggles for a game next year you can keep scratching your head.

Exactly. I sometimes wonder what supporters watch when they go to a game. It was a pretty obvious omission. Jones is a battler. He's an honest toiler that gives his all, but he lacks class. There's a reason why he piggy backs four opponents each week on his way to 'holding the ball'. His omission should be great news to supporters because it's synonymous with us getting better. We want to have players on the periphery that would get games at most other sides. To include Moloney and Trengove a midfielder had to make way. If it wasn't Jones then who would people omit ? Bail provides important pace and run. I prefer what he brings to the side over Jones. It would seem the selectors do too.

It's best not to try and rewrite history. Pay particular attention to post no. 40 in this thread (last post on page 1). http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11350&st=0&p=171629&hl=grimes%20play%20round%2022&fromsearch=1entry171629 And in fact, on closer scrutiny (post no. 10) you said that if he isn't picked by round 21 then "IMO they should leave his debut until next season". Hmm B)

I don't think it would make any difference.

A lot of supporters seem overly excited to make the finals. Being an 'also ran' finalist gives me no jollies. In time, when we're a genuine contender, playing finals will be extremely fulfilling. Conversely, limping in - even taking into account the experience gained for the young players - doesn't do a lot for me. That said, it would be one more step in that long journey that hopefully culminates in the only thing that matters, a flag.

I wouldn't be too concerned that 'Bananas' doesn't think it looks good. Afterall, if a poll was taken tomorrow in the HS about whether Julian Knight should be released when his parole is due you'd get 5% of the population voting yes. I'm very comfortable with the positive response this emblem has received.

You're welcome to express a view. I'm not sure why people would have a problem with what you've said. I really like it. And I did the moment I saw it. When one starts analysing all that's in it I can understand some thinking that it's a bit busy. But I can only go off my initial reaction. As another poster pointed out, an emblem is different to a logo. This emblem wraps up 150 years of history in a stylish and vibrant manner. I wouldn't change a thing. B)

I know that it's done in good spirit and perhaps even to encourage others, but one doesn't need to announce their personal donations.

It's for people that don't want to make a hard selection decision, so they go to the seemingly easy call of resting Scully to bring in the player they want. Scully won't be 'rested' again this year - assuming he pulls up well.

FB: Bartram, Frawley, Rivers HB: Grimes, Garland, Bruce C: Trengove, Moloney, Davey HF: Dunn, Watts, Sylvia FF: Jurrah, Green, Wonaeamirri Fol: Jamar, McDonald, Scully Int: Bennell, Bail, Morton, McKenzie Emer: Petterd, Bate, Jones * I don't overly rate Joel MacDonald, but yes, he's been playing well. Not in my team. * I've included Dunn on the back of his vast improvement and Petterd's long absence, but they're interchangeable * Bate can play, but right now our forward-line is better balanced without him. He's a tweener, in that he's not as good on the deck as a hff and he's not a true kpp marking target. * Jones is honest, but lacks class. Right now I want Bail's pace and run and I prefer McKenzie's contested footy. * Morton is lucky, but I like his flexibility. Looking forward to Tapscott, Blease, and Gysberts staking their claims.

Either someone has hacked into my computer, or I've just made my third brain fade in 8 years. I suspect the former.
-
That's what I thought. He did ease my mind somewhat by explaining that Trengove had a saw hip flexor and had completed only two training sessions after missing two weeks of football, which is why they gave him a run at Casey first. It made sense. As for Tapscott ? Bailey mentioned his great kicking, physically mature build and that he's a "real in and under" player. I doubt he's competing with Bate or Maric. I see him as a robust high half forward/midfielder.
-
Nothing to be gleaned other than he basically intimated what we all know, in that Trengove will come into the side this week.
-
Two big wins ? They were pathetic in the second half last week and are far from being immune to change. Trengove is a walk up start in this side.
