By the by, interesting thread given it is the first post by the op since May 2017. Curious.

I can appreciate it looks that way, but I haven’t been as disheartened as a member since the Kardinia massacre when they sacked Bailey. I waited years on the waiting list for a reserved seat as a premium member, and I’m seriously thinking of giving it away because there is only so long you can stick with a club that can’t get it’s [censored] together. I neither new of or cared about Pert until Caroline Wilson commented about him coming to us. The way the AFL forced his appointment against the wishes of what was a unified and high functioning football club wasn’t right with me.

Having said that it is obvious that Peter Jackson did not want Pert as his replacement and if he did not want him then you have to wonder.

Internally, the club wanted Mahoney as Jackson’s replacement. The AFL did not allow Jackson to have a say in his successor.

Imho the footy department should read this, and then take a collective leaf from the book of St Kilda. We have a better list, and proved this in Rd 1, but they have heart and back themselves to win whether it be against a bottom 4 team one week or the premiership favourites the next. The club has accepted mediocrity too long, if this team are going to be the real deal (with the potential to win multiple flags like Geelong 2007-2011 as some coaches have stated in interviews) then the excuses need to stop

Last week's loss (with due credos to Hawthorn for turning up), was possibly more the fault of the players for not making the effort.

(I wrote earlier that Goodwin's pressers are a bit lacking after losses, but I take it back. If he said what he thought about the game, it would probably be too advanced for most of us anyway, I assume modern public relations in clubs limits what a coach could say to the public anyway.)

I agree that his disappointment with the player's post-match regarding their intent and effort is as frustrating for him, as it is for us as supporters. Maybe we should be writing letters to players to ask them if they actually want to play? I couldn't be an AFL footballer no matter how bad I wanted it, but they weren't on. It may not have mattered what the selection committee chose to do last Sunday. Not many picked to play offered much more than poor JFK.

I hope after all of this toss, he's not home in tears thinking of necking himself. Poor kid!

    Cut him a break.

  4. This peron is a paying member, and I think it's great he wrote to the club. I've often wanted to send my membership card back to the club, and loosing every week grows a bit tiring after more than 10 years of it.

I don't agree with what he wrote to.Goodwin, but getting clichés in post match press conferences which state the obvious is all members get from Goodwin after we watch this crap.

I'm loosing interest in MFC. I'll keep paying for my membership, but I'd rathe watch other clubs games and stop wasting my time showing up to our games. It's garbage at times, and less than 40 minutes of watchable football a game isn't cutting it.

Jones behind the ball provides a lot of confidence. Looks in ripping nick.

Hogan will crack 50 goals this year.

O Mac will be a big improver.

Tommy Bugg is a far from perfect but I love having him wearing the jumper.

If JKH can stay fit he could be around the mix for selection throughout the year. Likewise J Smith.

Spencil and Salem the two big stories of the day with their performances. Spencer provides a selection dilemma for Round 1.

Not sure about O Mac. Maybe Frost and Hibberd better placed to play there.

  6. Could anyone hear what question he was asked before he described us as a "cash strapped" club in the presser? Was it about buying free agents?

Any trustworthy and well known member wan't to put a hand up to organise taking a hundred bucks from 850+ members and help em out with the salary cap? I can spare a few hundred if it keeps PR at the club beyond 2015 rather than become more despondent about this list.

  7. Did you watch rd 11 v the pies we smashed them in the third quarter by putting preesuer on the ball carrier Tehn we allowed them to roam free and had multiple goals kicked against us

I have watched the whole season once on fox and i will watch again

I am left wuith a few impressions

    1) We were better than i thought in some quarters and games

    2) We were no where fit enough

    3) stupid turnovers by Morton Gimes tapscott McDonald eta l cost us momentum thatw e could recover from

    4) Davey is completely cooked

5)Jack Watts belongs on the halfback flank

    6)Tom McDonald is a star

Are you a doctor of medicine? Only a medical doctor could write that sloppy.

What do you mean by Davey being cooked?

  8. Looking foward to the repeat of round 23 against Fremantle on Fox Footy too.

In the first half, they put to Freo a hard one on one contest. Perhaps the fitness didn't see them through to keep them in the game, but it looked the goods in the way of seeing Neelds defensive focus bearing fruit.

  9. I may have misinterpreted what Neeld said at the very end of the press conference with Jesse Hogan, and the last question was difficult to hear. When Neeld was asked about what choices will be made with the remaining picks, he didn't have a straightforward answer to what they were looking for. I may have heard wrong, but I thought the last question was something like,

"Do you have any others [draftees] your interviewing....other midfielders?

    Neeld clearly said;

    Ah, midfielders, no!

Set me straight if I've got this wrong.

We have heard it a lot from Neeld the statement, "we believe that we have a core group of ….”, and it seems like he believes we already have the midfielders we need. This is a guy who coached arguably the best midfield in the competition for years at the pies.

Jack Good Times, Jack Turnover, Nat Jones, Jordie Mc K, Viney, Howe, etc., are it.

I think he understands that the result of hard work go's a lot further to being a good player than having any special talent at 12 with no AFL preseasons or games experience. This may take a few years to bear fruit.

I kinda thought maybe he had a stab at us supporters for having unrealistic expectations on Jack Watts as well during this press conference, but he may have meant supporters of AFL generally. Set me straight if I have this a bit bent too.

  10. Doggies are pretty close to being just as bad as we were last year, the main difference being they won our game.

They have picks 5 + 6 and we could use one, while the doggies could use a forward line.

    Martin + petterd + sylvia + pick #20 for pick # 6

One mobile big man, one marking medium tall and a classy flanker/ mid type

Maybe wishful thinking but it fills some of their needs and other than sylvia the others are easy replaced

sylvia would be a loss but to get something good you must give something good

    Wow.

That pick 6 would want to pretty good.

    Sylvia?

Have you watched any Melbourne games over the last couple of years?

  11. Dean Towers

Kevin Sheehan says: “Medium midfielder who was a member of the VFL State squad this year . Is a player who can break the lines with his speed and agility in traffic and is strong overhead . Mature aged player having a consistent year in VFL.”

Wasn't that the talk from McClardy at a meeting mid-year with 50 invited members to communicate to the supporters that the crap that was coming from the media was unsubstatiated? There was talk of software purchased/set up to search the country for mature age players who can break lines, or something along those lines. I got the impression from McLardy's comments that the club was playing "moneyball" to source players unoticed on the fringes that had good "indicators" in the midfield.

If he can break lines, than surely the club is aware of him.
