Who would you select with our 1st Pick in the rookie draft?
tonatopia replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
A challenge we should take up. The upside is huge. -
Just IF, Garlett straightened up, and started playing good footy. Enough to kick 2-3 goals a game and excite the crowd and the team into a football adrenelin rush. 99percent of our team are hard-nosed diciplined footballers, we can allow ourselves the 1percent wonder. We don't need to be so one-dimensional. The Bommbers have found themselves a beauty. If they can teach him, they are a stronger club than us. Maybe we don't back our ability to nuture talented yet 'wild' youth. Take the chance, if he does not suit, we can quickly delist and make an example of him. We can turn a negative into a positive. We should take the chance.

Lovely. I just want him to play good footy, and have a good time kicking 2-6 goals a game. I don't care if he lives wild, I only want him to play wild. All he needs to do is handle the training. Let's see if neeld, Craig, mission and viney can help him thru. Pre-season is bloody painful work, especially when your indigenous and don't really value money. We must be able to nuture rebels, just incase they turn out to be a beauty. Wayne Carey, Lockett, ablett, Jakovich, farmer, all very unstable characters! It's hard to be a freak without slight mental problems -
We will get wines down here. He belongs here. Love toumpas tho.

If we can't mould him into our culture, then simply delist him and send him home. Otherwise, we may have excluded ourselves from a diamond in the rough. Personally, I cherish the wonamirri, farmer, jakovich and Jurrah experience. As a supporter, I want a garlett experience. Even if it only lasts 3 years. -

He may end up playing like Cyril. We must take the gamble. -

Everyone must be treated on a case by case basis. Neeld must add flexibility to his arsenal. -

If only neeld could pull it off! -
Daicos was Macedonian. There are 1/3 the number of Croatians in Australia, yet they produce players like; Pavlich, Sumich, Allen Jakovich, Glen Jakovich, Didak, Gasper, Scott Watters, Starcevich, Mathew Richardson, Sam Kekovich, Tony Modra. 180,000 Greeks immigrated to Australia, after breeding, now there is around 300,000, for very little return in regards to decent footballers. I wonder if it is something about their temperament. Put it this way, if we were to draft Jimmy 'the Greek' Toumpas, he better develop to be the best Greek footballer that has ever played AFL.
-
Yes, but soccer is the national game in Croatia and italy, yet if you look at the numbers, there are many champion croatian and Italian footballers, yet it is hard to name a champion Greek footballer. Just saying.
-
Actually, that does matter. It matters plenty. For the amount of Greeks in Australia, they havnt bred many good footballers. Especially when you compare the per/capita ratio against the Irish, Italians, Maltese and Croatians. Nb. Koutafides had an Italian mother.
-
For some reason, I think Wines will have a hunger similar to Ben Cousins, but a brute toughness like Dustin Martin. But on the other hand, Toumpas reminds me of Darren Jarmen. Balls or class? That is the question. What a wonderful problem to have.
-
Exactly.

Who should we select?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS
tonatopia replied to Demanding Success's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, toumpas sounds good, but we need unabashed animals who have a taste for dominance and destroying the opposition, physically, spiritually and mentally. From all reports, wines seem like he is another Dustin Martin or ben cousins. Toumpas just like Gibbs, may end up being a soft [censored]. At least we know wines plays like a demon. We should weigh up there strengths and put a priority on hardness and desire to win. -
Neeld 12-13, bottom to top.
-
Daniher 99-2000, bottom to top
-
Northey 86-87. bottom to top.
-
Viney will play 300 games. Imagine he did it with his good mate wines. The destruction duo. When people describe wines as Dustin Martin, how can we look anywhere else. We are demons!!!

Training - Friday, 16th November, 2012

That's right, we went from bottom to top in 1 year, 86-87. We can do it in 2013. I can feel it. -
West coast, bottom to top in 1 year. Adelaide, bottom to top in 1 year. I stand by my statement that we now have a side without deficiencies. We are fit, we are tough, we have enough experience, we have a defensive game plan and the ability to turn on offensive flare. Some supporters are downright limp. They almost sound like deadbeats with their pessimistic attitude. The mind is an amazing thing, every player on our list can play footy, or else they wouldn't be there. 1500:1 for the premiership is a fantastic bet. Everyone talks about culture change, have people ever thought that some supports must adopt a change of culture and start believing that our club can win games. It is not to hard to do. And I withdraw the statement that excuse makers should be strung up and horsefukced.
-
Thats the attitude! Defeated before we have even started. Your mentality needs to be delisted. We should be aiming to be the hardest team to play against. That is our mantra. This WILL enable us to enter the final 8. Excuses makers just make us weaker, ffs, even before the first bounce. What hope have we got when many of our supporters are soft as fruche. Supporters, time to harden up and not accept anything but a full conviction to win games of footy. Excuses makers should be tied up and horse fcuked.

Let's make an assumption that 2012, was just a season of preparation for 2013. We quickly learned that we were a long way from the hardest team to play against. So neeld, knowing that everything was on the line, made bold decisions, with the help of viney, to make this club the hardest team to play against. He knows that 2013 is the year it must be done, so it is. It was a pity to lose moloney, but in saying that, we will have the hardest young midfield in the land. Grimes, jones, trengove, tapscott, viney, wines, mckenzie, magner and Sylvia. We have the toughest full forward in Clark and the hardest full back in frawley. Howe is a freak. We have tough honest centers halts in Dawes and McDonald and nuggetty small crumbers in Nicholson and rodan. This is the core nucleus of hard nuts. Add the absolute class of watts, blease and davey, and we have a structure of the hardest team to play against. We must be aiming finals for 2013! No more excuses.

T.Mcdonald, Garland, Davis and Dunn are also over 190cm. Too many of the same kind. Do we really need Sellar, Gilies and Davis? Why do we have them, considering we have Pedo up forward, and Watts, Dunn, Mcdonald and Garland down back. Just cause neeld is 190cm, dosnt mean the team has to be moulded in his image.
