  1. North,  north  norf  norfff

Oh we must win I can't take it any more.

At Etihad a few years ago we were losing again to North and one of the North supporters expressed his dislike of my berating of the umpires with a comment along the lines of  "don't worry mate your not losing because of the umps, your team is just [censored] "

Well I couldn't hold back and came out with " gee mate at least at Melbourne we know we are [censored], you North supporters have such a over inflated opinion of your team its a sad sad joke"

He didn't have anything to come back with.

all the above apart from Oliver in the team of the week, major difference appears to be kicks and goals.

  3. Well what a wide sweeping statement without the appropriate research, thought Blight was better than that.

1993 Flag Essendon : 7 with 100 games, 7 with more than 50 games, 6 with less than 50 games (total 20 players)

1997 Flag Adelaide : 5 with 100 games, 9 with more than 50 games, 7 with less than 50 games (total 21 players)

1998 Flag Adelaide : 8 with 100 games, 7 with more than 50 games, 7 with less than 50 games (total 22 players)

2008 Flag Hawthorn : 9 with 100 games, 10 with more than 50 games, 3 with less than 50 games (total 22 players)

2016 Flag Bulldogs : 6 with 100 games, 7 with more than 50 games, 9 with less than 50 games (total 22 players)

2017 Flag Richmond : 11 with 100 games, 4 with more than 50 games, 7 with less than 50 games (total 22 players)

2018 Demons at end of home & away : 10 with 100 games, 10 with more than 50 games, 2 with less than 50 games (total 22 players)

Difficult to really make a valued argument that the Dees wont have the experience to make finals on the above comparisons.

  4. A few journalists have excused North somewhat due to their in experience line up that took the field yesterday.

Now to correct that uneducated observation.

North Melbourne’s total games experience 2458 games.

Melbourne’s total games experience 1837 games

For some reason North had 26 listed players and Melbourne 24 so if you use that to compare the fielded teams average games experience North had 94.5 games / player and Melbourne 76.5 games / player

  5. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-01-16/revealed-the-afls-most-talented-list

The Tigers are ranked behind 2016 premiers the Western Bulldogs (No.7) and Hawthorn (No.8) and but they leapfrog both clubs when lists are narrowed to assess the best 22 players, jumping to seventh.

Sydney has the most talented full list as well as the best 22, while Port Adelaide comes in second for overall list strength after an aggressive off-season of recruiting, ahead of losing grand finalist Adelaide (No.3) and Greater Western Sydney (No.4).

Sydney boasts an AFL-high 17 players rated either 'elite' or 'above average', ahead of Port Adelaide, which has 16 players in the top two categories.

Carlton's list is rated the least talented, while Fremantle has the weakest best 22, with captain Nat Fyfe rated as the club's only 'elite' player.

Nathan Buckley will be attempting to steer Collingwood back into the finals with the 10th-ranked list, but the sixth-strongest best 22, with Essendon (11th overall) experiencing a similar spike to eighth when limited to its best 22.

I wonder where Melbourne's list will be compared to other clubs lists?

  6. I think our age profile is just getting to a point that will give us the best chance to make and be successful in finals.

Currently we have 8 players with +100 games experience (with 3 more to reach that point before the middle of the season)

There are 9 players between 50 & 100 games experience, plus another 9 players poised the go past 50 games well before finals time.

All in all 26 players with +50 games experience before finals time and 11 of those with over 100 games experience.

  7. I was on the Gold Coast the weekend of the last home and away round in 87 listening to the finish to the round and the miraculous top 5 finish for the DEES.

The friends I was away with were happy to drive back to Melbourne a day early so I could go the first elimination final.

They dropped me at the ground at about 2.15pm and I thought I had missed the start (never been to a final before so thought start was 2.10pm)

Got to my seat and was blown away by the way the DEES absolutely destroyed the Roos, especially as we had lost twice to them during the year.

I was on such a high I walked home all the way to West Brunswick from the G.

    Oh what memories.

I lived through '87 and as I've posted in a number of forums getting to the finals was the most exciting, all embracing sporting 6 weeks of my life. It had been 23 years, there was the Robbie factor, it was a final 5, not an 8, it was skin of the teeth every nail biting week in those 6 weeks - any loss meant the dream was over. No one really expected us to make it. Then the extraordinary events of Round 22 happened and everything fell into place. (If you can, check out a Tim Lane's "live" coverage of the events of Round  22 on the Winners on ABC - still sends goosebumps up my back). Then, there was was the Finals - I agree I have never seen any side, in any era, play any better than Dees did in week 1 or 2 of the 87 finals. Then there was the tragedy at Waverley and it was all over.

2017 for me is a bit different. If we do not make it will not because we did not dare to dream, it will because we had a golden opportunity to do something special and we just dropped the ball a couple of times (Norf x 2, Freo, Hawthorn).

Go dees versus the mortal enemy, and if that fails, for god sake, go Crows.

Are the Casey Demons playing with the same intensity?

Yes Casey definitely playing the same game plan with the same contested ball intensity, which really helps when the guys get the call up to play for Melbourne.

No, the umpiring was pathetic, it simply makes our win all the better.

Just watched the replay and seriously amazed that we won.

    Reduced interchanges with injuries.

Horribly biased umpiring, not just the obvious 27 to 16 free kick count but the number off frees not awarded to Melbourne.

Anything that is a 50/50 that would normally be play on at any other venue, is an automatic free kick to the Ducking Eagles when at home.
