  1. I think the the drafting since Neeld came on board has been solid give the challenges of getting both youth and experience while turning over a stagnant and under-performing list. Clark, Hogan, Viney, Toumpass, Dawes, Terlich, M Jones, Byrnes have all been good pick ups (too early to call on a couple), and all recruits have fully engaged in lifting the fitness level (according to pre-season reports). And have got Casey firing such that there is real pressure on places in the MFC team. If you intend to be a hard team you need to recruit and develop hard players. Losing Morton, Gysberts, Martin, Cook and replacing them with the above boys can only improve us.
  2. Why change coach only to replace them with someone who going to do the same thing? If the problems with the team (i.e. mid-field, leadership, no A-levels, sub elite fitness) require the same remedies (I.e. work and time) then why change coach. If we're going to blame and work through coaches based on their ability to rapidly convert a sows ear into a silk purse, we shall be waiting forever.
  3. I actually believe that Neeld is establishing the foundations for a prosperous period for the MFC. He identified where our list was at, where our fitness was at, where our FD and program's were at, and where our culture and leadership was at. And he identified that ALL these areas were well below elite level and needed rapid change. He has started to implement that change, and the rewards for this change will be evident later this season and in full bloom in 2014. But only if we hold the line and maintain faith in Neeld. Go Demons

  5. Unlike many I don't see the value in speculating on things I don't know such as the results for the remainder of this season, the relationship between our coach and his players, etc... And I question those who do speculate, as they are generally doing it to placate their anger or big note themselves at the expense of others. Hence, my growing repulsion for the bunch of armchair experts on this thread claiming to know more about coaching and developing of our footy team than those appointed, with years of experience and training, to do it.
  6. Stuie We've had this discussion before, 5 games of a 22 game season does not make a season. If this is the stats at the end of the year then you can claim 2013. Until then you are just trying to blow smoke up my ass.
  7. I've read them. Less than 1% offer anything more than biased venting from our weekends defeat dressed up as "justified anger" toward our coach. Which I think has become tedious and demeaning to all.
  8. This thread is a joke. It consists of loads of "loyal" MFC supporters potting our coach with no regard to the crap situation he's inherited and the huge amount of effort he's putting in to turn around our boat. The cheap and uninformed pot shots, bogus claims of Player disenfranchisement, moronic pop psychology on the coach... total bollocks and massively disrespectful to those trying there best to fix our club. No one is offering a solution, no one is complaining that he's had to bring in ANOTHER couple of newbies (Kent, Spencer) because our list is so average yet everyone is out for Neeld's blood. Bunch of [censored] wits.
  9. You may be right. It's had to get a full picture of the past 5 games given another two of the teams we've played are sitting 1 and 2 on the ladder undefeated... Hence, needing more time to gauge if the team is improving, stagnant or declining.
  10. I'm hoping we are turning the ship and simply need more time for the changes to be obvious on the field. Keen to see Clark and Dawes play 6+ games together in forward line. Maxy and the Russian play 6+ games together in ruck/forward. Continued improvement and time playing together in our 12 mids, I've liked M Jones, Evans, Terlich, Byrnes, Viney, but they are all in first 5 games at club and mid-field synergy takes time. the players produce 4 quarters of intensity, getting better each week (from very low start) These factor all point toward an improving team that simply need time (injury free) for the pieces to come together and start to gel into something that resembles a decent footy team.
  11. Looks like he might have grown a bit too, any data on his height & weight?
  12. I'd love someone to turn it around in 15 months, but for the MFC to tell a prospective coach that they have a season and half to turn it around, when for many aspiring senior coaches they'll know they only get one chance, would deter several prospects from applying. On the quality of our list, I'd suggest that NOT having a player rated in the top 50 AFL players (Herald) for the last couple of years, having NO All Australian players for the past couple of years, having a midfield BEREFT of A-grade midfielders (Jones may be getting there), having a youth development program that has SQUANDERED high draft pick kids for the past 5 years... Indicated there are some quality issues with our list that will take more than 15 months to address.
  13. The MFC need to be very careful about handling the coach situation. I am in favour of keeping Neeld until at least the end of this season, for the following reasons It will provide us with more time and data to assess the progress of the list and the coach It will demonstrate the MFC is not a rabble of flighty hens unable to keep to their own directions, plans and commitments. This would be important in attracting the next coach. It will allow time for a spill of the board that employed Neeld (should he go) such that they are not responsible for hiring his replacement It will allow us to identify what went wrong with the Neeld /Craig FD (if indeed it has gone "wrong") Should we sack Neeld prior to the end of the year, we would be telling any future coaching aspirant they have 15 months to turn what has been widely acknowledged as a weak list around. This would result in most first time Coaches avoiding us and leave us with failed but experienced Coaches that can't get a role elsewhere... We need to stay calm and support Neeld. The reality of our situation is that the team has lost one game (to Port) that we expected to win, we have lost several by margins greater than acceptable that we expected to lose and most recently lost to Brissie in Brisbane by 28 points... not a huge surprise. We need to learn to grind out 4 quarters of effort to stop the blow outs, and the Carlton game will be a good test of our improvement in this area.
  14. Have to bring in Nicholson for the defensive leg speed to help against Carlton's mosquito fleet. Dunn an obvious inclusion. Too early in the week to feel we're doing anything but moving deck chairs...

  17. Selectively highlighting examples that favour your argument and omitting examples that don't favour your argument is the common approach of a four year old. Dig a bit deeper and if you're going to research examples perhaps generate a sample that is statistically valid. Then we can have an adult debate based on facts rather than your opinion dressed up is selective examples to "backup" your rambling chaos of an argument.
  18. Hey Tonatopia, can you explain to me how sacking the coach, bringing in a new one... won't also take another couple of years? Surely the "New coach" would also have to implement a new game plan, bring in and develop new talent. It's all too easy to pull other peoples work down when you don't have to build anything yourself. You say "Whatever it takes" yet refuse to accept that we may well be in the "whatever it takes" moment right now, and that sticking with the current Coach, FD and plans is "whatever it takes" to improve the club.
  19. So is that a choice between "optimism that kinda doesn't actually exist" and "no confidence"? hmmmm let me see... I'm with you.
  20. It was interesting in Neeld's interview this week he mentioned that when the average games played differential was at 20 games or more, the chance of the younger team winning dropped to around 5%...
  21. It's more about moving on from the Fev At Casey period when the needs of the MFC to use Casey as a development nursery were secondary to other imperatives. The new alignment between the MFC and Casey coaches and game plans being taught indicates we are looking to extract the maximum from Casey in terms of improving the MFC team. The article "Demons strengthen ties with Casey" is encouraging but also highlighted what was not happening previously...
  22. One of the signs I look for in terms of where Melb is at, is the performance of our Casey team. Are they winning? are our boys getting the right workout at Casey? are the MFC Casey players putting real pressure on the first 22? So it's good to see us undefeated, with a good contingent of MFC player pushing for spots. Liked that the Casey Coach is aligned with Neeld and is implementing at Casey the game plan Neeld wants the boys to play when they come up to the firsts. Indicates that there is a clear plan on how to build depth and develop our younger players. Just another one of the foundations that Neeld has put in place, that will bear fruit in time.
