  1. I absolutely love that song! I send shivers down the spine when just the pacemakers, but is ampified when sung in a stadium like that. I dont think that it is feasible to have such a thing in football (other than the grand old flag) when chanting is only in pockets throughout the ground it will not be vocal enough. If I could arrange it I would have every MFC supporter start saying AHHH either timed or prompted by the scoreboard. each adding their AHHH in turn sounding like a jet engine, strong and united then go into it's a Grand Old Flag! Magic

  2. From Draft Tracker

    Trent Zomer-Eastern Ranges

    height 196.4 cm

    weight 93.9Kg

Tall who began the year as a key backman before finishing season playing up forward and in the ruck.

Leading goalkicker for 2007 for the Eastern Ranges. Quick for his size, has an outstanding leap and spoiling ability.

    Sounds great to me!

  3. before I got much busier. Years ago I was thinking that a train carriage of demon faithful could unite at spencer st from all points of victoria on our match days. This would be conducive to support groups and now it would be much cheaper than it was then. We had a supporter group based in Albury when I lived in Wangaratta, unfortunately it died we thingd turned bad in our odd year 97 0r 99 and folded. The DEEtrain! Supporters could meet the train at Albury/Wodonga, Wang, Benalla, Euroa, Seymour. Petrol costs are huge now. At the time I was looking at making group bookings to lessen the cost. Last yr my daughter and I went down to see us [censored] Adel Yessss. our 1st win 4 07. and it cost just $60 from Albury to Melb return! we could not have taken a car for less than that!

Mod edit: Type in large font is unnecessary. But your point is valid about the impact of petrol. Thanks

  4. Perhaps a better option would be sausage sizzles and kicks with kids at training? It would mean much more to the kids and the parents. Perhaps adopting a local school team etc. not as costly, but I don't know if these things are already done. Perhaps a Demon of the week during the year, any thoughts?

  5. Well surely the horror of 07 should be well behind us now? We could not suffer the same fate injury wise in 08? New everything in preseason 08, coach, assistants, Footy Manager, fresh ideas, ?a new voice for those who have had only ND as their coach. No favourites. Surely our play will revert to hard running, hard tackling and the teamwork that got us a long way into the 06 Finals. There seemed little wrong with that team for mine. The best thing about 08 is knowing that all of those players are still there and are capable of turning it on. New kids will be coming on Brock, sylvia, and Bell etc will be established players. I would think that we should finish around 7-8. IF we play under Bailey as our boys played under Northey, who knows! Could be top 4. That 87 side was tough, but this side in 08 can be talented AND tough!

  6. We are not going to be able to fill all requirements in one draft. Our first 3 picks should be about getting the best avaliable and hopefully one of those avaliable can be a KPP, I'm more than happy if we can get him at 14.

If not Rioli then definately Maric! ?Jakka MK2?

  7. I'm afraid that this a case of sour grapes on our behalf. Collingwood has been at the forefront of marketing and using the media since Eddie became the pres there. Who would nt want someone of eddie passion and influence at Melbourne. I question your statement about melbourne being irrevelent in the 50's and 60's (we won at least 6 flags during that period). I do agree with u about the position that collingwood has put ITSELF it. I have to applaud them for that. Of course the AFL is a business, just look at Collingwood v the Kangaroos. I Know which way I'd like us to go. The supporters need to go to the games and we need to become relevent again. The new broom of pre season 2008 may yet do this, but it is entirely up to the supporters who are not financial members of our club.

  8. Mmm Hmm. It's a wonder it took us this long to suggest it.

It's surprising if we were considering him, as we would have Yze and davey ear marked for a Vardy type role. Have heard that it is actually the Bulldogs who are looking at Welsh.

  9. Vardy was a gun who played at least a couple of sensational season with us. Also, was he 28 when we got him?

Perhaps 26 y.o. Cut down by injuries a lot but he could bring it couldnt he! I remember listening to him against Freo. The rain man is born! Sounds like Welsh would be similar but slightly older.

  10. If we get Welsh cheaply, i have no problem with it.

He has towelled us up a few times, is a straight kick and applies great foward pressure with his strong tackling. Something we lack.

He is a little injury prone, but so are our other fowards. It would be good to have a bit of depth, so we have someone else to kick to if Neitz and Robbo go down again.

    ? Vardy MK 2?

  11. If ur figures are correct we wont have lasted 10 years!. We would have just stood still! I am hoping that the current off field changes will be the start of an increase in membership of at least 1000 per year over 10 years. This will be due to re branding and our link to China and other asian groups. I am hopeful that will have tasted premiership success during that period also. (wow I may live to see a flag in my lifetime!)

  12. Don't forget, when you compare us to Geelong, that many of those players marked as Geelong pluses were just about written off at the end of 2006. Bad attitudes, inconsistency, front-runners, selfish, and it goes on. Many Geelong supporters HATED Ottens as little as six months ago.

We have a lot of players who can take big steps up - starting from Sylvia and Miller, throw in Carroll returning to 2006 form, Robertson freshening up, Davey returning to high-impact frightener rather than being under pressure to do the 'correct' thing.

And don't get me started on the potential of half a dozen kids.

Then of course, injuries. Blah blah blah. (Refers to difference from 1999 to 2000 seasons) You get the picture. It's a whole new season, we've made some big changes, dropped a lot of fringe players and have a lot of young talent which we haven't seen much of yet.

The moral of the story? The competition is very even and any team can challenge for the flag...

What a boring cliche, huh.

The most important thing for me is to see the toughness and determination return to our side. We didnt have stars in 1987 but they feared us then!

  13. We better get some quality pictures.... and by quality I mean close-ups of players who have worked particularly hard over their break :D

Damn you and your free time! :(

I noted with interest that Pettard appears much bigger in his picture in China. Did anyone else notice this?

  14. well the club logo i suppose is the new bland thingy... but as a graphic on a jumper...what more do we need than a Demon ??...It aint broke...why fix it ?? lol

its just an idea.. It cant clash.. its still us.. It s immediately recognisable as Melbourne.. in the old language it ticks all the boxes.. so obviously is far too logical !!! lol :P

I suppose you could modify it further..

I like it! Perhaps a jumper with the bland logo and 150 on it?
