  1. Part of the problem that has haunted this club has gone. The players, particularly the older ones have been mistreated by the now departed CS. Neeld also last season wanted to push a player, out the door mid season. Other players knew exactly what was going on and were not overly happy about it. Hence Rivers to the cats, and now talk of other senior players wanting out is understandable. The dangling carrot of playing finals football, perhaps even a flag when we are in more trouble than the early settlers is hardly surprising.

  2. I know we do it every year and we say it every year. But I am definitely getting pumped.

5 years ago, it was Watts (waited till QB for debut)

4 years ago, The dynamic duo (impressed from Round 1, but we all know what happened to $cully)

3 years ago Nothing (We picked up Howe and Tommy Mac, but they were still settling in)

2 years ago Nothing (began at second round picks, our best pick still hasn't played, but we did got a very useful second hand Mitsubishi Magner :P )

Last year, Excited about Clark (How good was he from Round 1, but really 1 decent win for the Dee's all year)

Excitement all based around high hopes.

I honestly think we have something to be worthy of excitement this year.

    - Jack Viney finally playing AFL football for his one and only club and after such a rollercoaster draft period too.

    - Chris Dawes to come over from Collingwood and help out forward along with Pederson and the experience both bring.

    - David Rodan and Shannon Byrnes already making huge impacts at training with experience, mentoring and just their confident playing skills.

    - Jimmy Toumpas getting snagged at Pick 4, ready to go, senior footy under his belt already and so much talk about what he is capable of.

    - Howe, Jones, Tommy Mac and many others looking to improve on their 2012 form.

    - Not to mention Neelds second year, Craigs infinite coaching assistance, some great matured talent in Kent and Jones.

Lots more to be excited about.

Then let's hope its wins throughout the season to keep it going.

Im all for optimism as thats all that we have had for a long time but I cant see how Pederson is going to bring experience. Was on the outer at Norf which is not all that great. Roden and Byrnes couldnt get a game one of which @ PAFC. Yes the experience they bring is great but Im excited about the young guns more than the recycled. Dawes however i was rapt to get.

On a side note goodluck to Riv. Im stoked for him that he left the club and got a chance and a flag which he deserves.

  3. DO you know why player resort to drugs to feel good.

Its because they get thrashed on the track all summer. Go to battle everyweekend. Get scrutinised at every fault, and are treated like robots or even worse, cattle.

Drugs offer an escape and good feelings. Its hardly a surprise that players do it. And often, it is the hardest, toughest players that get on it.

The human condition is not designed to play football at this level. For most players, they have been thrashed or been thrashing themselves since the age of 14.

Drugs offer an easy way to feel human again, and not a blood thirsty warrior.

I do not condone the use of drugs, but I would not condem a man for indulging. For some, it is just like having a drink.

Go easy on blokes, especially 18 year olds like Garlett.

And moreso the recovery is much quicker on the charlie than a night on the bottle. So im told

  4. If she was just "reporting" on the matter she would have known the "Vault" was the name of the building, not the meetings. She would provide actual quotes not just heresay and she wouldn't put in throw away line about Brad Green being "disillusioned" without any evidence to support it.

If Melbourne are guilty then the club deserves its right whack, but she has in no way reported accurately or fairly on the matter.

I heard from someone who heard from someone that is was not Greens idea to retire and was well and truly pushed into it and again the club has [censored] off another champion of the club. Whether he would have had an impact or not who knows.

  5. Out: Moloney, Rivers, Jurrah, Morton, Gysberts

    In: Byrnes, Rodan, Pederson, Dawes

Nothing to jump up and down all excited about guys...

Well said, I for one think Gys and Cale had alot of upside and let them both develop a bit more. Cale for pick 88??? We should have kept him. Gys for another "big" forward. I am of the opinion we need ball carriers and speed. Im not sure we have done that. Time will tell

  6. I for one simply dont rate him that highly. Not worth playing overs for. In good sides there are often players which compliment the stars. He is one of these. Without the class around him I doubt whether he would have much impact at all.

However if we can get him on a reasonable offer I would be happy to give it a go as we dont have much. Steele sidebum however I rate hugely.

  7. Loyalty?? That word unfortunately has no place in AFL and moreso at the MFC. If I were Riv I would be getting to Geelong as soon as i could. Playing footy for the reason you play footy, finals. With the cleanout we are having that will be atleast 3-4 years of being a threat in finals not just making up the numbers like Norf this year.

Riv is one of my faves and I want to see him in a successful side. I reckon his mate Greeny wished he went to collingwood when he had the chance.

We will cope, but it would be good if he stays.

My read is that it is up to him.

Loyalty or a chance for a flag.

    See what happens.

  8. On a positive note this week is Brad Greens 250th game. Although the last 2 seasons have been pretty lean I think we should remember what a great player he has been for this club. Still remember him beating Carlton off his own boot in 2000.

Hes been a fine role model for the youngsters since he was drafted and has been a fine figure for this great footy club.

I for one will be there on sat and although I dont agree that it happens I hope the boys give it their all, and get up for the former skipper.

    Well done Greeny.

  9. Does the Russiian go on to vets list next year and davey?

I think greeny has done a bit of coaching with the tas u-18s over the years so def into the coaching game. I think it wise to keep him on for 1 more if he gets a kick for the rest of the year. Purely as insurance and I know i will get bottled over this but other than Jnr he has been one of the greatest servants of this club in recent times. Sometimes sheer brilliant. The next few week will tell us where hes at.

Col- i still love and think with some form and a no-nonsense coaching group he will thrive.

Bail, Ricky-Bobby, Bate lets see what we can get and Morton, I simply dont know.

Big Steph- hold on again for insurance

Cook- give him a crack but i like the way hes apparently developing

Dunn- def keep purely for the MO

  10. one of the silliest threads ever.

Let the kid play, Where? Hopefully with us. The idea of keeping him back for the good of the MFC is plain ludicrous.

May have been mentioned but what if he gets a freak injury and prevents him from playing afl whilst trudging around in the vfl. No teenager in the country would go with this idea.

If we get him with whatever pick so be it, if we get a number 1 or 2 draft pick for pick 3 or 4 its a bonus.
