I know this is off-topic but I was hoping someone could help me with this.

Fox footy refer to Garry Lyon as a 5 time all-aus. However, looking at the All-Aus teams he seems to be mentioned only in 3 (93-95).

Even in this front bar episode below at the 1:40 mark, Garry says he was 5 time All-Aus, but you can see Andy Maher hold up three fingers and look embarrassed.

    Could someone please explain?

Very top heavy OBS with a lot of “managers.” Plenty of chiefs, not many indians.

I wonder who was responsible for these things in the past and why the hell has it taken until now to introduce these roles if they are so vital?

I’d love to see some actual results for once. Or some resources employed with a modicum of strategic thinking, rather than this shuffling of deckchairs rubbish.

How much exactly do you know about the club staffing structure? Reads as you know every role in the place, so I’m just curious.

I have looked through the report and could not find a reference to the MCC? In last year's report the club thanked the MCC for its support, but nothing this year.

Does anyone know what being an official MCC sporting section means? It doesn't seem to mean anything from a financial perspective. Our MCG tenancy deal doesn't seem to be more favourable than Collingwood, etc.

If being a 'sporting section' is just ceremonial than what is the point?

There is considerable financial benefit - not my place to talk to the detail but can guarantee that the Club is much better off being a sporting section that not being one.

the financials are until June 30 2020 so many of the staff cuts would not have taken real affect at that time and you would have had redundancy costs pay outs, annual leave etc that would have been expensed into 2020. You'll see those savings mainly in the 2020/21 financial year.

I'm tending towards ground rental and match day costs as the savings but I'm not sure. It has to be something large to effectively reduce annual expenditure by around 50% over a three month period.

The financials are until 31 October Jim

The above link is to the 2019 financial statements. The sale was accounted for in the 2018 financial year.

Looks like the proceeds on sale were $10.65m – see cashflow statement 2018 comparative - Proceeds from sale of discontinued operations.

    The money was banked.

In 2019 some of the funds were re-invested – see $7.6m financial investment on 2019 statement of financial position ($1m + $6.6m)

We incurred a loss in the 2019 year of approx. $2m which accounts the majority of the remainder of the Leighoaks proceeds (used to cover the losses).

Alternatively you could look at the 2019 cashflow statement which details components of the decrease in the bank account of $10.2m.

Good summary, saved me a lot of typing!

Fair enough ... I think I'm more annoyed they claim to be paying off debt while making a loss without mentioning they had sold down assets to be able to do that

the full detail of the financials rather than the website summary does mention the investments were liquidated to get through the year from a cash flow perspective, and the rationale of that decision.

Don't like the fact that the Leighoak sale isn't mentioned in any of the financial updates, a bit deceiving and trust takes a bit of a hit as a result. They also liquidated their assets ... more information please!

I haven’t looked at the financials yet, but wasnt the Leighoak sold in 2018 and wouldn’t be in this years result? These accounts would be for the year ended 31 October 2020, unless it didn’t settle until after 1 November 2019 which would be surprising?

  8. Don’t understand this emotional attachment. It is not the MCC’s fault we don’t have a training facility. No other MCG home club trains on it, so why should we. Romanticism aside.

The worst decision the administration ever made was turning down the first right for the Collingwood home base.

    Demonlanders,

when I started supporting the MCC Football Club, we were one of the MCC sporting divisions (like bowls, cricket, lacrosse, etc). Now we are stand alone but is that a good thing? Personally, I think we should remain/resume integration (and every single MCC member is automatically a de facto member of the Melbourne Football Club)!

Under this scenario, we would be the largest and most powerfull Club in the AFL! ?

We are a sporting section again. Jimmy brought us back together. Hence the MCC logo on the back collar of the jumper

I think the MCC currently provides some support to the MFC, but it is totally inadequate for what the MCC gain in gate receipts/membership of the MCC/ ground advertising during football season.

How to convince the MCC to contribute a just amount, rather than just those passionate MCC/MFC members alone?  Or to provide names of MFC supporters in the MCC, to increase MFC membership numbers, to appear more attractive to sponsors.

Trouble is if the MCC were to do this then all the other clubs would be looking for the same, which would really challenge the future of the MCC.

Think you will find the contribution is on the rise for all clubs.

None of us know what the revenue sharing model is, so what is a “just amount”. We shouldn’t be looking for handouts because of a historical connection with the MCC - let’s build our own revenue base, which we are.

50k at the MCG is bare minimum  ... it's not a great payday when the break even factor is around 25k

Where are these figures coming from? From what I know from inside the Club this couldn’t be any more wrong. Club only writes a cheque when we play as the home club at Etihad, never at the MCG, even when drawing 15000 in the dark days against Freo.

I think it is fairly safe to say at this point poita that there is no one waiting in the wings.

    We are now discussing 2018.

Incorrect. One of the companies we are progressing talks with has already been mentioned in this thread. We will have something done this year, we will just miss out on full value for year one.
