I walked over it at half time to check it out. The surface and even underneath was quite good. Not a practice wicket anymore. It has been replaced or overlaid with turf strips. Salo was unlucky with the tackle but it would probably be a similar outcome if that tackle happened anywhere on the ground - except maybe the real soft and sticky stuff in the middle.

There are so many Scorps players having ordinary days. We have been well served by a few blokes having an extraordinary day. It augers very well for next week when so many more can hopefully lift. Not putting the wood on our last qtr here I hope.

Weed, Kennedy, ANB, Michie, even Trenners and Newton are not on their usual dominant form today. Yet. Reckon we're missing Grimes a lot.

Just went and checked the practice wicket area where Salo hit his head. Relieved to say that it's still reasonably soft ground underneath and there's some good grass cover. Just not as grassy as the rest of the ground. I saw the hit and it looked bad, but at least he's not hit a concrete type surface.

Not a soft player but that's a soft post.

Dunny is also in great form today.

Top qtr by Scorps. A little too relaxed early, but slipped into high gear and really put the foot down. The passing to leads has been superb. Some lesser lights also really shining today - J Smith, Ferreira (spelling?). Garland, Salem also very impressive. Keep it up boys! 4.6.30 vs 0.1.1

That was the 2016 Liston Medal winner. Nibbler was telling him he's over rated.

Joel Smith has been in a lot of the play so far vs his normal form. He's switched on. Col Garland has been hot in defence too.

I can see why you interpreted that but I didn't go to a private school mate, and I've sent my 3 kids to a mixture of private and public. It was a cheap and admittedly unedifying comment about the typical Pies fans, not about the school system. Nor did I mean to imply Dees fans have private school backgrounds. Plenty of us don't, probably the great majority. But we can at least have a civil conversation about it.
