  1. It must never be forgotten, or should i say, we must remind ourselves Collingwood is a suburb of Melbourne. It is time for this club to go out and get whatever it takes to win multiple Flags as we have done. The supporters have cleared the debt. Now do it.

Yes and they're a pretty crappy little suburb as well.

  2. I see on the Hun website this morning that Marc Murphy gave David Beckham a Carlton jumper.

    Where were our blokes?

Wouldn't it have been more appropriate to give him the jumper of the oldest club in the code.

The club that represents the capital city of this state.

The club that wrote the rules etc. etc.

  3. OK, I admit it. I was wrong on this issue. It's becoming more and more obvious that Tom had, if not signed, then made the decision to change teams before this season had started. I backed him in all year on the assumption that someone with his reported good character would not be capable of playing such a dishonest game. To those who called it, my apologies and well done on picking it early.

I was at the wharf hotel after the St Kilda game at Docklands. Jamar, scully and Trengove came after the game to be interviewed etc. Jamar and Trengove stayed around later mixing with the supporters which was great. I spotted scully scurrying away like a little mouse directly after being interviewed and I remember thinking then that the bloke seemed to be disconnected from the club in some way.

Anyway after that I was reasonably sure he was going.

  4. In one season we seem to have gone from a coach that could have been a leading cast member in My Three Sons to a coach that could have easily starred in Schindlers list. Maybe we should have gone for the middle ground, someone a bit like Alan Jeans. But what do I know ....Absolutely Nothing !

  5. Just a theory but maybe Sheedy believes Melbourne is his biggest threat and is looking to get us doing stupid things while they are redundant. This would ruin our season in the same way that travelling to Darwin does.

We carry the name Melbourne we're everyones favourite threat. The other teams around here are just suburbs.

  6. Interviewed by Andrew Gaze....Now that will be cutting edge!

Yes i know Andrew was a fine fine Basketballer, but if you have heard him on radio he is also a full time Bogan.

If you knew Andrew you'd know that during his time at the Tigers he became a pretty slick business brain. The way he relates to the public has been done before and it's an old tactic. Play the fool and talk the language ( in this case boganism ) of your target audience.

Others that do it well in sport are people like Sam Newman and Billy Brownless. In the rock industry Nick Cave and Mick Jagger do it well. Both these gentleman are private school boys but listening to Cave in particular and you'd think he never got an even break in his life.

They all have one thing in common they are selling a commodity, themselves.

  7. MFC please be rid of the guernsey collar for next year.

It services no practicality. It's a winter sport and players are not likely to get sun burn on the backs of their necks.

It's not a link back to a bygone era where 'collars' were a design norm - and as someone from the club, I believe, suggested in justifying it's purpose.

It has no visual appeal that I or my family of dee supporters can see.

It uses extra fabric which is unnecessary (not that that's a key point).

But lastly, a clean and simple V neck ribbing - with no collar - will give our glorious Melbourne jumper a stronger cleaner meaner line.

    Over

Yeah and bring back the red cuffs on the sleeves as well.

  8. Nah NFL season starts on Friday been looking forward to it for a while. Couldn't bring myself to watching boring rubbish like cricket or tennis. NFL is a game that still allows big hits and has tactics so far advanced of AFL its ridiculous. Yeah they wear padding but if they didn't there would be deaths every week.

Go and live their mate, please. I believe the dollar is good as well.

  9. Okay, yes, it's a more typical rumour of the 'I've heard' variety. But the man involved makes it all the more interesting.

Bomber wants back into a senior coaching gig.

(Related point - is it about time we just had a coaching megathread along the same lines of the TS megathread?)

I reckon they should at least try and get him. Anyway the blokes a jet not a bomber and a thorough gentleman. If we did get him we'd have to fix up our football department like they did down here in Geeeelong.

  10. Thi is the first time i have pretty much agreed with all Jeff Kennett has said..

    What do you think.....Thoughts...

Jeff Kennett on SEN Pt. 1

Jeff Kennett on SEN Part 2

Jeff Kennett on SEN Pt. 3

Crazy people sometimes say sane things. That's what makes them hard to diagnose. The man's a social and political vandal and in a more sane non exploitative society would probably be locked up.

Jeff Kennett has never done anything that didn't advantage Jeff or his wealthy friends.

  11. I've just written to the club suggesting we should start repositioning ourselves as Melbourne United. Maybe not changing our name but we could use United on our car stickers etc until subtlety our name becomes synonymous with United. It has a number of advantages one of which is we carry the name of this great city not some suburb. In effect we try and become the umbrella club for the whole of metropolitan Melbourne.

  12. Back in the early days of reality TV, Channel 10 indulged in the passion by with a tropical island renovation show The Resort.

The programme was an absolute stinker and, after weeks of disastrous ratings, the Ten Network put an end to the embarrassment after just six airings.

Now, one of the AFL's new franchises is about to have its own version of The Resort if my information is correct.

A resort style mansion complete with gym and pool has apparently been set up to accommodate the lucky players who have accepted the $s on offer and need only wait till the end of the season before they sign on.

Now that Ten has bowed out of football it might consider a new version of reality TV based on the 2012 versionThe Resort.

I have a feeling that this salubrious but artificial living environment in a city where few give a rats about AFL and where the majority of teammates still live in mundane accomodation, will deliver some dramatic moments for audiences to savour.

Great post. The AFL and their so called american style franchises will fail. All that money will be wasted. Real football clubs grow from the bottom up, not from the top down.
  13. Perhaps this is too simplistic, but I would like to see the club to forget its focus on player development for the rest of the season, and just field our best 22 each week with the primary goal of winning the bloody game.

Simple stuff. The hardest, best player in each position. And not out of position either - if their best position is as a half forward flank, play them there. If not, drop them to Casey for development.

The Scott brothers don't seem to over-complicate things. Hard contested football and a desire to win should now be our only focus.

Yeah play for the moment and we'll gradually get there.
