  1. it's a really interesting point, I always thought (as did many others) that Brad Green should have spent his career at full-forward - certain coaches put him elsewhere because they deemed it more importnat for the team. Same goes for Davey, he should have stayed as a forward crumber his whole career, instead of getting tagged out of effectiveness in the midfield. I say wherever they do the best job put them there and leave them there. Of course, D.Neitz provides a counter-argument for this theory
  2. i couldnt give a toss if a bout of pneumonia went through the club and forced them to field their seconds - we wants more wins, mono, WINS!
  3. not sure we can say we're doing well, just that we have been lucky that most of the pain has come to fringe and casey players instead of the important players (generally)
  4. what about Beamer's long bomb that was pretty nice, or our first for the night which was Lord Howe from the boundary also liked Watts and Rivers flying the flag after it was clear the Bombers were getting a little rattled by us garlo lining up for goal looking he had no clue how he got into this position Watts saving goals about 20 times with little knock-ons bumps and spoils was my favourite though
  5. That's exactly what I thought. Letting everyone know that just because he doesnt currently sit in the official leadership group he is still very much considered a leader
  6. does anyone know what's going with Bartram?
  7. see NH this is what logical, realistic people speak like on this forum. Not really a place for cheerleaders with blinkers on, who slam others for saying things that might make them a little uncomfortable. I used to bag Watts plenty too, but guess what? He is now performing to a level where he deserves his credit. Some others - the likes of Brad Miller and Matthew Bate and a billion others won't ever get to that respectable level - and the likes of Trengove need to earn their praise.
  8. you should get a job in the footy media, where if you are in front on the scoreboard then everything is awesome and everyone's a gun. Had we lost by 100 last night as expected, JT would be copping it for that match (which is about 10 in a row now). He's a captain, he's a pick 2, he hits 50 games in 3 weeks time. He shouldn't be getting run down with the ball and turning it over with his disposal as much as he is, simple as that. It's not all about effort, obviously. Jones, Magner, Watts etc put in the effort but they actually performed, and thats why we won. Win, lose or draw every performance should be judged on its merits and we will go nowhere as a club if we think ones like that are acceptable - especially from somebody we are expecting to lead us to a flag.
  9. he, jones and jordie would dive into a meat grinder if there was a footy in it. Love it.
  10. interesting point isn't it, he seems to have a real bit of pr!ck about him this year that wasn't there before. Maybe so many years of losing, combined with a realisation he is setting the tone for the younger lads, he is breathing fire lately and it is brilliant to see.
  11. come off it mate. Everyone looks better when we win but JT was abysmal last night again. Did a few good things but generally coughed it up when he used it
  12. sorry, youre correct - 7 games for 10 goals. Yeah but still.
  13. the main point for me is that Hurley is supposedly some spearhead goal-machine, but look at the stats, his side is 8-2, with an average wining margin of 6 goals and the bloke has kicked one goal a week, and has less than 14 possessions on average. That's 10 goals out of 149. Nate Jones has kicked the same amount! Watts on the other hand is in a really battling side and performing way better. Also he is a year younger which has obvious impacts on the physical comparison.
  14. 6 T.McDonald (giant mancrush, 19.8 ys old, pick 53, superstar) 5 Watts (ave. 27 touches the last 3 games!) 4 Beamer (thats better mate) 3 Rivers (so far its his best season in the R+B) 2 Nicholson (gee I've never rated this guy but he was great last night) 1 Jones (as usual) Magner Garland Howe Tapscott (so exciting) i really must have a crush on Tom McD, judging by how few votes he has gotten, i thought he was great
  15. doesn't the media make you want to vomit - we are in front at half time and Watts has a few touches, instantly they turn from labelling him a soft spud and a wasted no.1 pick to praising him, even though he had exactly the same game 2 weeks ago and nobody said boo dheads carn dees, look what a little effort and heart can do
  16. Jones McKenzie Rivers Grimes Bail Watts Blease, McDonald, Clark
  17. we played some great footy at times and we showed a lot of heart and character. I think Neeld is getting somewhere. Wiser heads realise that the last quarter created a margin that was not reflective of the contest, as we could well have been in front at 3QT if not for the usual blunders gifting goals and some poor misses at goal. Taking Green out, our average games played today was 52. GC and GWS averaged 41 and 40. If they took it up to the Blues for 3 quarters everyone would be blowing smoke up them. It is easy to forget we are still a very young side and that's the main reason our concentration and fitness got us chopped up in the last. It is hard to cop that Sylvia, Morton, Davey, Jurrah and Moloney are giving so little, when they should be amongst our best, and if they were we would be winning games like that. Individually I was pretty pleased with youngsters Blease, McDonald, Bail and Grimes which is heartening. Trengove showed a bit for a bit. Oh and people bagging Watts today are fools. 34 touches last week and a fairly decent crack today. Get off his back.
  18. there is more chance of me doing the no-pants-dance with Katy Perry this afternoon than there is of us winning this match
  19. Tom Scully represents everything I hate about football and this club -He represents our continual failure. We lay in the gutter and tanked, only to have our 'prize' taken off us. That's cos we are a weak, poor, minnow club. -He represents another 'elite' football person that was 'too good' for our amatueur outfit. Under no circumstances must the MFC ever have anything off the top shelf. From the CEO to the bootstudder. It is in the constitution. -He represents the death of loyalty in football, and the individual greed of most people in life who put money well before anything else life has to offer, as well as the tendency of people to lie and sneak around in order to satisfy this greed. -He represents the modern athlete, who is nothing but a mercenary. He is a non-drinking robot who probably doesnt have any mates at all because he was too busy running laps his whole life. Let's never hang out. Most of all he is just another chapter in our pathetic story. Another example of how we manage to balls everything up. Look at the 8 number1 draft picks from 2000-2007: Riewoldt, Hodge, Goddard, Cooney, Deledio, Murphy, Gibbs and Kruezer. Then there was Swallow in '11. Think about the service they have/will given to their clubs. What happened with us? Watts and Scully. You beauty. Then you chuck Morton, Sylvia, McLean and Trengove(who has joined the elite-gone-stale club) and its enough to make you eat a bullet. Watching the Tigers/Dons game on Saturday made me want to cry. Two clubs rising out of their bad patch under new coaches. Each loaded with high draft picks that are paying dividends. The passion, the heart, the individual brilliance. The big crowd and the tight contest. The bright future for all to savour. These are not the experiences of the Melbourne supporter. This is not our domain. Through it all, year after year, the pain is multiplied byt he constant media-bashing and sniggering of everyone you know about how bad we are. I have to resent my dear-departed Grandfather for picking this club. In his defence it was the 1940s and he had no idea that 70 years later his descendants would be putting up with this nightmare. I hate you Melbourne.
  20. good post WJ "today, for the first time, we will have all of the players displayed on the 2012 Demonland banner (above) in our starting 22" nice pickup.. it's a shame that Jonesy is the only one who can hold his head up so far this year. Let's hope a few of the others can play near their best today cos God do we need them to. Looking at the 22 and remembering each player at their best, I simply can't understand why we are playing so horribly. Surely Clark, Jurrah, Watts and Howe can manage a winning score between them, on individual merits they really should be one of the best offensive lineups in the comp. C'mon! Swans average scoreline is 96-77 ours is 67-118 huge turnaround required
  21. "You know what hope is? Hope is a bastard; Hope is a liar, a cheat, and a tease. Hope comes near you; kick its backside. Got no place in days like these."
