  1. I heard the movie 'Braveheart' is not actually about William Wallace, it is a biopic about JV. Same with 'Gladiator'.
  2. I for one love Barty, and in the last couple of years he really did play some fantastic games. His attitude is reflected in his position in the leadership group. He is one of only 8 on the list who have notched up 100 games. 2 seasons were ruined by injury but in the others he averaged a consistent 19 games a year. The last I saw about him was this, 2 months ago: http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/143431/default.aspx "In what is thought to be an AFL first, the procedure will initially involve Bartram having fat extracted from his body through liposuction." "It is expected that scans taken three to four months after the procedure will be able to give a good indication as to the success or otherwise of the treatment." "It was felt if Bartram's injury was left untreated, it could not only end his career but diminish the quality of his life in the future." I really hope to see him out there again, does anyone know anything more about how he is tracking?
  3. of course the other side of the coin is the unknown impact of having kids in the club with inadequate experienced leaders to show them the ropes. At this point in time, it doesn't seem to have done us much good pumping games into kids as heavily as we did in the Bailey years. Cale Morton is a good example, he played 40 out of 44 games in his first 2 years and only 33 in the following 3 (yes some of that was due to injury) nevertheless he certainly is nowhere near the star we thought he'd be. I would also argue that JR on the timesheet is more likely than one of those kids to get a win on the board, and we MUST start winning games
  4. even though it looks like we are drafting in a bunch of experience, we have lost Beamer and Green, Rivers and Davey are the only two now with 150 games in the board, and there are 6 others (inc. Bartram) who have over 100. We can't up this 'Peter Pan' existence forever - JR is required
  5. am I having a nightmare or is somebody slagging off the recruiting department on the day of this magnificent coup? and it's because of a stupid quote? geez mate give it a rest and enjoy one day of being a Melbourne supporter, it was a good one.
  6. Neeld on whether they would have taken him at 3 "you guys will never know" love him
  7. good point, and if you go to a premiership contender you want to be sure you're good/young enough to get a game. I doubt JR would have got a guernsey if he had been on either the Hawks or Swans list in September.
  8. seems like a long time since we as a club have had something so fantastic happen. As I said a few days ago, this really could be a turning point for us - particularly if some other rumoured trades come up. We could be looking at 6 or 7 changes to our starting line up. Well done MFC for whatever you did to get this right. This, along with snaring Clark last year, are out of character for the 'loser' club - and I like it very much. THREE CHEERS FOR THE REIGN OF THE FIVE JACKS
  9. when you posted that here http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/31559-jack-viney-a-sun/page__st__800#entry642078 you were corrected in that the new FS system is actually designed to make it so clubs don't get 'unders' with their FS. IN the old system we would have him in round 3 which is the absurd outcome the rule was changed for. Viney for 3 is fair, if we get him at 26 it is massive 'unders' for us.
  10. yeah but her record in particular is impeccable, when you look at her forecast for the last couple of drafts - she's probably the last person I wanted to hear that comment from
  11. depends on the club that drafts them and how they develop them you mean
  12. exactly what I was going to say. The way it works now is that the club still gets their player but they pay market, or just under market value for him. I think it's fair.
  13. Man in Black: All right. Where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink, and find out who is right... and who is dead. Vizzini: But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me. Man in Black: You've made your decision then? Vizzini: Not remotely. Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows, and Australia is entirely peopled with criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. Man in Black: Truly, you have a dizzying intellect. Vizzini: Wait till I get going! Now, where was I? Man in Black: Australia. Vizzini: Yes, Australia. And you must have suspected I would have known the powder's origin, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me. Man in Black: You're just stalling now. Vizzini: You'd like to think that, wouldn't you? You've beaten my giant, which means you're exceptionally strong, so you could've put the poison in your own goblet, trusting on your strength to save you, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But, you've also bested my Spaniard, which means you must have studied, and in studying you must have learned that man is mortal, so you would have put the poison as far from yourself as possible, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me. Man in Black: You're trying to trick me into giving away something. It won't work. Vizzini: IT HAS WORKED! YOU'VE GIVEN EVERYTHING AWAY! I KNOW WHERE THE POISON IS! Man in Black: Then make your choice. Vizzini: I will, and I choose - What in the world can that be? Man in Black: [Vizzini gestures up and away from the table. Roberts looks. Vizzini swaps the goblets] Man in Black: What? Where? I don't see anything. Vizzini: Well, I- I could have sworn I saw something. No matter. First, let's drink. Me from my glass, and you from yours. Man in Black, Vizzini: [Vizzini and the Man in Black drink] Man in Black: You guessed wrong. Vizzini: You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha... Vizzini: [Vizzini stops suddenly, his smile frozen on his face and falls to the ground dead] Buttercup: And to think, all that time it was your cup that was poisoned. Man in Black: They were both poisoned. I spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder.
  14. really don't know where to stand with this one - I am very pleased with the pairing of he and Grimes as our leaders going forward, they both seem to have the head for it. However, as far as his individual performances go he was a let down this year. Went missing a lot and seemed to lose some of his virtues - being smart, classy play, strong overhead and top disposal. It has to be noted that with the exception of Clark and Jones, nobody looked particularly good though, which is not surprising when you get belted every week.
  15. i'm only slightly embarassed to admit this is my 15th post today in this thread, and i have not posted in any other threads. I find it fascinating as a topic, if we pull this off and get him at 26, we effectively secure pick 3,4 and (arguably) 5 in the one draft. That will be one of the greatest draft pillages in history and could really set us up. Add to that the fact that one of those players is EXACTLY what we need as a true red-and-blue blood, with his former-captain Dad actually in the coaching staff and nothing but praise for the kid's character, leadership and general hard attitude. This draft could 'right the ship' that has gone off course with the disappointment of Morton, Scully and Jurrah, whom we all expected to form a key role in our resurgence as a club. Make no mistake, this is big business for the MFC.
  16. that's exactly right, for GC he has to be 2nd best but 4th for us - and his value to us is greater than it for anyone else due to the sentimental factors, culture/attitude factor and the fact he is already ingratiated with the club. So even if his true value is a 6 or 7 he is clearly well worth the use of pick 4 for us.. but again I don't think anyone here is debating this point and i'd be very surprised if anyone at the club is
  17. well as I mentioned earlier, unlike simple folk I don't make judgements and stick by them despite the landscape changing right in front of me tell me, when were you convinced by Cale Morton and Brock McLean, and are you still holding steady on that probably a huge Bate and Miller fan also
  18. good mate of yours is he? if he is a real soldier he will do exactly as he is told to do for the good of the club
  19. because if he doesn't someone will go 'on the couch' and publicly smear our club as cheats probably
  20. I don't think anyone is saying that are they? There is no chance in hell they'll let him go, but I'm afraid we won't get the bonus player. PS You know the best thing about this draft? We don't have number one. So we won't have another playing that has half of Australia breathing down his neck like Watts and Scully have endured.
  21. nah he's going OK as is Trenners - but they are not doing pick 1/2 value. The rest are fails and BTW I have the right to change my mind as many times as I want based on GUESS WHAT how the players actually improve or decline over time. Crazy huh? I do the same thing with investing money, I don't just back a horse and stick with it no matter what, without re-asssessing its performance, you'd have to be an absolute idiot to do that yeah?
  22. mate who the hell cares what the Scully situation is/was it has nothing to do with it in any case, it's a bit rough to suggest we are doing OK with our previous top5 draft picks in McLean, Sylvia, Morton, Watts, Trengove and Scully. Shocking return so far.
  23. it would only be if they were genuinely 100% sure we will not pass on him at 3. They are probably at 99% which is hopefully enough not to do it.
