  1. I was beaten to the punch on this one!
  2. Sorry rpfc, I didn't intend for this to evolve into an intervention! I think the best and most ironic punishment for any contributor who takes pride in their prose would be to enforce the use of an emoticon after every sentence.
  3. OK noted, and thank you. My initial post was well below par. Now that you've explained the motives behind your style I'm more comfortable with copping some criticism from you. I'll bear it in mind when I'm interpreting your posts. I was also likely being a little sensitive as I'm prone to be when hung over... Apologies on over-reacting.
  4. Rudeness is a weak person's imitation of strength. Yeh it was hyperbolic (so I don't know why you included literal comparisons in your argument...) so sue me! In stating the Ball and Turley have similarities in my mind, I didn't try to present any facts or misleading information, just an opinion, which I will explain in a moment when I have finished bickering futilely with you. rpfc, people other than you are allowed to present opinions on this site. Forums such as this one exist for that purpose. I very much enjoy reading most of your contributions, and when I don't enjoy them, I just note the difference of opinion and move on. I think that sometimes you use your intellect to bully other contributors. You should keep in mind that having the verbal ability to tear someone to pieces does not always necessitate the use of that ability. It would be far more impressive to see you display some emotional control, a step which occurred for most of us as we rounded out our teenage years. Now, Ball and Turley. Use of the '=' symbol was a disgraceful exaggeration for which I have been duly chastised by you. What I should have said is: I won't be at all surprised if for pick 18 and $500k pa we end up with a bloke whose contribution turns out to far less than what was widely anticipated.
  5. Nice article by the Pies supporter. Not dissimilar to what quite a few have said previously at Demonland, but with a little detachment and fatalism. If we pick him at 11 (I hope not) or 18 ( ) I'll live with it. Hell, I'm almost a certainty to be barracking for him in a few months time... BUT.... If we fall one single player short of a premiership, a player that Luke Ball cost us in the top 20 of this year's ND, all the photos the Herald Sun can muster of him crying on the MCG will not soften me a bit. If he comes to our club under current circumstances, he'd better deliver. Not happy Jan. BTW, Barry accidently cut his lady-friend's leg with his big toe nail this morning in bed. Fun over, and Barry didn't even get out of first gear... Anyone think that's fair?
  6. One thing I never expected to read on this website when I joined was that people are down on Rivers. I just can't believe it. He's a young bloke who has had a couple of seasons ruined by injury, and then came back last year and played well. He'll keep getting better too. It's a bit rich to make grandiose statements about his ability when you're looking at his form over this year, and over a season two years ago (especially at his age). If we drafted a player at pick 11 in the ND this year who backed into packs and put his considerably good sized body on the line like Rivers does consistently, we'd all be applauding out loud. Some people here need to be careful they don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Rivers is a very good player for us.
  7. I acknowledge your post mate, and respect you as a really good contributor, not that you'd need my validation. I do see your logic now. I just don't agree with the conclusion. I think the points you make are valid though. I guess it's a question of self (club) belief for me. You can only tell a person or a people so many times that you don't like them. Initially they'll look inwards and reassess themselves, and ask themselves the question of maybe it is the way we think or go about things... But eventually, when you keep piling sh!t on, the target will dirty up and become annoyed rather than introspective. I think I've reached that point on behalf of my feelings for the club. I hope that explains a bit better why I don't want this bloke at Melbourne. Regards, The Cougar.
  8. I'm a bit surprised too. I hate the idea. I think that in ignoring our attempts at contact, and nominating for the ND instead of the PSD, he has given us an f' u. Yet we still don't mind the idea (it's now 15:26 for pick 18) of taking a bloke who has deliberately cost us a top 20 draft pick if he is taken at 18. I feel like a broken record, not just on my own behalf, but on the behalf of many other contributors to this site. I guess the problem is that this seems so clear cut to me that I can't understand why others don't agree!!! I don't feel like this on too many issues. I'm fine with disagreement usually, but this issue really has us all divided. I've heard the "who cares?" argument, but I don't buy it. He does not have our club's interests at heart. If he did, he'd have answered a phone and nominated PSD. If we pick him now, he's directly cost us a top 18 draft pick, and I think that's inexcusable. So yeh... I'm surprised. Surprised that 15 people don't mind that this single player has put us in the position where we have compromised our just rewards for years of being in the doldrums and for having to go to the 'G' last year, hoping for a close game that we'd lose (which made me sick), just to pick him up. I don't believe Luke Ball has done this to caress his ego. I believe he's done it to tell us he does not want to be here at MFC. If we pick him with anything better than 50 (which will obviously see him at the filth 1st anyway), we've seriously compromised our own ego. It's like a girl telling you she won't go home with you until she's sure nobody else at the pub who's better looking wants her too and that if you wind up getting her, she'll want some coin to do the deed. In the words of many a good Aussie bloke; "I don't need to pay for it".
  9. Apparently it's not the end of the discussion - looking at the poll.
  10. When is the MFC going to come out and state that we are no longer interested in Luke Ball? He has openly displayed that he doesn't want to come to MFC. If he wanted to come, and truly cared about the club, he'd have nominated for the PSD rather than deliberately making us use a pick in the ND which will be deleterious to the club cf if he'd nominated for the PSD. We need to go into some damage control and make it obvious that he is no longer welcome as he obviously does not have MFC's best interests at heart. He is over-rated. He is arrogant. I was never that fussed as to whether or not he played for us, yet this has turned into yet another invited rejection of our future and direction. I wish him all the best at Collingwood, and hope that he is on the ground the day we win a flag, and that he is picking up Tom Scully as Tom has 35 disposals and 3 goals, whilst feeding Jack Watts several goal begetting bullets. I no longer feel the necessity of being nice about Ball, he has shunned us to a degree that a VAFA side would take offense to. Not happy Jan.
  11. If that article is true, and I state 'if'... I hope Luke Ball gets thrush. Arrogant [censored]!
  12. It's not a bad thought, but doesn't it go a bit against our youth policy? I know he's not that old, but it just doesn't seem to fit for me. I too have done some thinking, and wonder if we picked him at 18, we could then trade with Collingwood for a better pick than 18 next year? Probably rubbish. I'm just trying to straighten my head out over these events. Are we really that bad that Ball would risk going interstate? Or as you say, is there much going on behind the scenes that we don't know about? Or, is the whole draft system (all of them) a complete joke when it comes to trading of established players, hence making the 'free agency' argument moot? As stated by me, and by many other posters here, if Luke Ball doesn't want to come to MFC, I absolutely don't want him. Geeze I'm p'd off about this, probably b/c it just seems to keep happening (a la Judd).
  13. How does that work? I don't understand what you mean?
  14. Barry's MFC darft wish list: 1. Scully (yes, one, what he deserves). 2. Trengove. 11. Tapscott. 18. Temel. 34. Magic Door. PSD 1. Thorp (and his entourage of sexy lady friends).
  15. Fair call, but another DSW who comes to mind was Wayne Carey. The Roos did reasonably well out of him. I just realised actually, what Carey did to the Roos at the end... Hmmm. I don't think there's any better remedy for a big head than to be delisted an thrown a "pull your head in and we'll look at you on our terms" lifeline. Seriously, could there have been a better outcome for the Dees, than if despite the awesome picks we have in the draft, we pick up a former pick 6 who turns out to be a gun forward? I'd rather take a punt on Thorp than to beg Luke Ball to allow us to interview him.
  16. Me too. I met him briefly at a game this year and asked him when he thought he'd be back. He replied "two oh one oh". He seemed forlorn. He was great for us down back, and if he takes up where he left off, he's a certain top 22er.
  17. That's good news IMO. Also agree with your point about best available at pick 11. I note that the Hun put Tapscott as pick 16 in the draft prediction yesterday. If we're happy with Thorp, I think Tapscott could be a Dee. God I miss Jack!
  18. I heard a really good joke recently. There's this bloke, pretty sure it was a bloke but might have been a chick. Anyway, he had this really funny interaction with a second party, I can't remember the details. It was quite humorous though! I thought that might appeal to the original poster.
  19. Can't disagree with any of that. Your set up of these polls reminds me of the naming of Swan on a half forward flank in the AA team! And no Le Cras! I must also commend you on the use of the word 'plurality'. So seldom one has the opportunity to use that word in a sentence.
  20. I think that's a good observation. My counter is that with KPPs accounted for, the presence of Jurrah, Petterd, Wonna etc would make our forward line hard to hold. When Bailey switches from 'experimenting' with players' positions, I think we'll find guys like Jurrah can kick bags. Sh!t, we used to have Farmer as our #1 goal kicking forward. Footy's about how many guys can you honestly cover before another pops up! I also liked your comment about Fevola's height and weight... I think the door's open for any type of forward line, irrespective of make up. We just need enough goal kicking options, and whatever an opposition backline can cover, we'll have a couple free to kick the goals. Edit was for incorrect usage of an apostrophy.
  21. Couldn't complete the survey. Enjoyed the las two you've ran, but felt this one corralled me into decisions that didn't necessarily have to be made. Aside from the fact that injuries and form will dictate who is available, statements such as "McDonald in the backline at the expense of Bennell" left me wondering if we have a bench. Also, you claim that Jamar is a certainty for first ruck, where I wonder if he might play more of a forward role with Spencer as first ruck. A lot of the survey depended on us agreeing with some presumptions that aren't as clear-cut as you have made them out to be. That said, I'm not having a go, and think that the 'midfield poll' (notice correct use of apostrophies) would be a difficult poll to put together.
  22. Barry has two words for Luke Ball... The first starts with 'f' The second starts with 'y' Let's move on and rub it in his face when he retires without a premiership. Over him.
