Who are the Dees chasing for 2017 and at what cost?
MadAsHell replied to junk's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wouldn't want to give up a 1st Round pick unless I know we're getting quality eg Prestia, O'Meara etc. Marchbank hasn't put a foot wrong, but hasn't done anything to me to suggest he'll be an out & out gun. So yeah something along the lines of 2nd Round Pick with Garlnd and maybe on trade another pick in exchange for Trengove or Neal-Bullen to get something else back. A lot will depend on who else we're keen on or are keen on us? -

Not sold on Marchbank and I reckon GWS would ask a lot also. But for the right price he'd obviously be worth consdiering. If we could get Marchbank & Hoskin-Elliott with a similar deal to how Carlton got Plowman/Sumner/Phillips etc then it could be worth a punt., -
A few things on the game/discussion. 1.Although i'm sure he'll be delisted at years end, i thought Michie was very good today. Very clean and on a few occasions showed an ability to get some outside ball which has been a knock on him. 2 Also thought Kennedy was very good. Won several contested balls and was able to extract it out of packs with cleanliness and easy. He'll be a very good depth player over the years i suspect. 3. Hulett will play senior football this year. Probably the last two rounds like we did with Oscar last year. They'll probably get him to play the forward/2nd ruck role. His improvement as the season has gone on has been impressive. 4. Those concerned about Weideman need to relax. The fashion he started the season in was on par with Jesse Hogan's VFL season. He's missed a lot of football over the last 12 months and as others have said, the conditions combined with a long season are probably just getting to him at the moment. I expect he'll re-find some form by finals. 5. We need to draft Declan Keilty. Probably use a 3rd round pick to ensure we get him. Guy is a younger and better version of Pedersen. Can play back, forward or as a very capable undersized ruck. He could be the ruck reinforcements we need. 6. Those saying we stuffed up taking Cook at Pick 12 (i agree with you there) as none of the experts had him going that high and also saying we stuffed up taking Trengove before Martin and Toumpas before Wines. You can't have it both ways. All the experts had Trengove going before Martin and Toumpas before Wines. Find better comparisons eg Gysberts/Talia or Bennell/Sloane. 7. Jason Bennett should replace any one of channel 7's commentators (bar commetti). He's a good caller.

No change baring injury. White on standby for Jetta, Dunn on standby for Oscar and i'd have Michie as an emergency also. Thought he was very good today.

They're currently 9th out of 18 teams. Can't get much more middle of the road then that????

As in 2014. Only played them once since then. Pretty sure just last week Roos mentioned that while there are similarities with us and the Saints, we weren't in the same boat given their band of experienced finals hardened players compared to us. Riewoldt, Montagna, Dempster, Gilbert, Fisher. They regularly field a team in the top 7 to 10 for games experience and average age as compared to us in the bottom 4. Those 5 i mentioned along with Steven & Armitage almost always make up their best half dozen players every week and they've all played over 125 games. I'm frustrated that they'll finish higher then us as i believe they're a team we're capable of beating, but their demographic says they should be challenging for the 8 and us not so much. One thing i will say is that i'd take Hogan, Viney, Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw, Gawn and Tyson over Mcartin, Freeman, Billings, Dunstan, Gresham, Weller and Hickey every day of the week.

Fair enough mate. Once jake puts the red & blue guernsey on he'll have my full support. However he well may become a popular first to be dropped choice around this board i suspect. As for other players who Melbourne may chase, i wonder if Paul Ahern from GWS has been discussed much? Coming off a knee injury, but a huge talent with plenty of pace and a good size to. Could fit our needs. I have no idea who we may look for as far as ruck support goes though? -

That doesn't explain why they failed to disclose to ASADA when up till those injections they'd informed testers if theyy took so much as a panadol. As McDevitt said, at best they were extremely naive. At worst they were complicit. -
Wonder what you thought of Chip Frawley back in his first few games in 2007 when Corey Jones of North took 10 marks and kicked 4 goals on him at Telstra Dome? Think Chip got 4 touches himself in his efforts that day. A bit early to make a definitive call on Oscar, but as others have said, the coches rate him and i know for a fact Plapp rates him extremely highly.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

Lets go glass half full! -
List looks pretty much spot on to me. Although I wouldn't be surprised if White is also promoted.

9 wins was my pass mark at the start of the year and after the Essendon loss i had doubts we may even achieve that. 9 wins remains my pass.

Just watched 4 corners on my iphone on my way to work this morning Macca, and you'll be pleased to know that they do make reference to it being ripe in all forms of competition, not just the Olympics. Olympics were used as the backdrop obviously due to them being only a few weeks away and the banning of tbe Russian track and field team for the Olympics due to their systematic cheating. Ala East Germany.

We're certainly a medal chance in the Rugby 7's, but gold is doubtful. At the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games we won bronze with South Africa taking gold and New Zealand silver. France is the only non Commonwealth nation that would likely push for medal contention. It must be said though that Fiji didn't compete in the 7's at the Commonwealth Games for an unknown reason. And they will be right in the mix for a medal.

Point is they should have been our Dempster, Fisher, Gilbert, Riewoldt etc like the Saints have to guide our young players through the season and make finals a possibility. They haven't done that, for various reasons. As such we find ourselves where we are.

I wish i was as optimistic as Sports illustrated! I'm hoping for 12 (50% increase on London) but anything more would be most welcome. Love your work with the earlier scheduling Macca!

Making way - The list enigma going forward
MadAsHell replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
Trade Neal-Bullen & our 2nd round Pick to the Crows who send their 1st Round Pick to Essendon for Hibberd Trengove, Garlnd & our 2017 1st Round Pick to Gold Coast for Prestia & their 2016 3rd Round Pick Zac Clarke as a free agent Let Grimes walk as a free agent Delist: Michie, Max King, Terlich, Pedersen Also delist Dawes but re-rookie him as cover for Hogan/support at VFL level for Weideman & Hulett's development. Promote Wagner & White One years deals for Matt Jones & Newton to go with Spencer's. Allows 2 picks in the national draft (both in the 3rd round) and three picks in the rookie draft (not including Dawes). -
After a loss like yesterday, this thread always helps me look at things in perspective. Melbourne ranked 16th in each filed on the weekend with an average age of 23 years 10 months and games experience of 65.8. Saints were 8th & 9th at 24 years, 11 months and 92.5 games experience. These results will happen. It's annoying, but the inexperience of the teams we're putting out there leaves this open. Dunn & Garland's fall from grace, Lumumba's injury and Dawes inability to get back to some of his 2013/early 2014 form has meant we're playing a lot younger then most of us expected.

Given he's contracted i think you'll find it will be how he feels that will dictate whether he stays on the list or not. -
Doesn't do anything for me. I'd be more keen on Zac Clarke for nothing as a free agent.
-
I see what you did there.

Michie's only a rookie list player (upgraded) don't forget, so you've only created two senior list spots. If we want tp promote White & Wagner, plus trade in/use free agency to add another 2 or 3 players and then use at least one draft pick (promoting White & Wagner would give us 3 list changes) then there will have to be others who are shaken loose from our list. -
Enright showing he's about as tough as that fl0g of an ex-teamate Wojincski throwing stiff arms into the back of Sutcliffe's head.
