Before the champs I had him penciled in to go late 2nd round/early 3rd, most likely in the 40's somewhere. Could be a bolter!

Did anyone watch the Coburg-v-North Ballarat game on saturday? There was a small forward playing for Coburg by the name of Adam Saad who looked quite likely, kicked a few goals and is pretty young I think. There's also Nathan Page for the Scorpions who I like the look of. Played the last 2 games for Casey and his defensive work is really good for a small forward. Reminds me of a young Stephen Milne with Sandy blonde hair.

Josh Caddy from Gold Coast (pick 4 & Ricky Petterd) & Koby Stevens from West Coast (3rd round pick and maybe another pick in 2nd or 3rd round through a trade of someone like Spencer or Moloney???) apart from them I'd be looking at Jarred Moore & Jordan Russell as free agents and those 4 would be walk up starts in our best 22 for Round 1 next year.

You mean like Jack Riewoldt was tearing it up in the VFL in his second season??? Don't recall that ever happening for the KPF who was taken early, took till about his 4th season to really come on if I recall, might have even been a similar pick to Cook? I'm all for calling it as I see it, yet I'll call it as I see it on players who have been at the club for awhile and have had a chance to really show what they've got. There's plaenty of players on Melbourne's list that aren't up to it, but I'm not going to point the finger at a kid who hasn't finished his first contract yet or another kid who's been injured for the majority of his third season after having 2 very good years first up.

Some of the worst posts I've ever read on any internet forum anywhere! Clearly all you've seen of Cook is Youtube highlights. From someone who goes down to Casey often, I can tell you that Cook will be a very good player, the club are doing really well at making sure they build his body before he plays AFL footy, they simply don't want to put him in to early. And the comments about Gysberts I assume you're both being stupid on purpose? The kids shown plenty in what were his first 2 seasons and has been injured all of this season so far. If you watched Casey play last week you would of seen he was one of the Best on Ground and was a huge part of the last quarter comeback. Chr*st almight! Edit: English

I'd suspect will walk to Western Bulldogs as a free agent. Only time will tell I guess.

Probably because on the trade market Spencer would have a higher asking price. Not to sure how many clubs would be keen on a 20 year old with 2 games experience who's just been diagnosed with diabities?
-
I'll give you that about Jacobs, certainly agree that he'd shown more then what Spencer has to date. I guess as it's been said there's certainly question marks over how good he will or could be? I guess it will come down to how much interest there is in him. If there's a bit of interest in him then hopefully that'd jack the asking price up. Might be a case where a later pick needs to be thrown in to make it a pick upgrade instead? Edit: Spelling

I see your point re: Spencer, yet at the same time clubs do often pay overs for ruckmen, Look at Pick 14 or whatever it was Sydney gave for Jolly before he'd really proved himself. I'd take slight issue with the comment that Mumford had shown he was going to be elite while at Geelong.... He'd shown he had ability, but not sure about elite? Not until he got to Sydney anyway. Point I'm trying to make I guess is that Spencer ticks a lot of boxes for a team like St. Kilda. He's had 4 years in the AFL system, has shown he has some ability but wont demand big coin and St. Kilda don;t really have any to offer. Yet they need another ruckamn on their list in case McEvoy goes down and Spencer might see a lot less competition for the No 2 ruck role at St. Kilda compared to Melbourne where there's Gawn, Martin, Fitzpatrick etc. Could be a match made in heaven and one where Saints might be willing to give up a pick in the mid 30's?
-
Before last weekend I reckon we had 3 players who were legit trade bait. After Bennell's injury I reckon that's now down to 2 being Petterd & Spencer. Petterd we all know the talent, and Spencer because with Jamar, Martin and hopefully a fit Gawn up and about as of next year. He may see greater opportunities somewhere else. Some trades I wouldn't mind seeing would maybe be Petterd & Pick 4 to Gold Coast for Caddy and their 2nd round pick. Spencer to St. Kilda for their 2nd round pick. Then 2nd round pick from St, Kilda and our 3rd round pick to West Coast for Kobe Stevens. Not out of the realms of possability I wouldn't have thought?

I'm sure Melbourne will have a value that they wouldn't be willing to go over, as would clubs that may be after him. If Freo (for example) offered him more then what Melbourne are willing to offer then yeah we let him go. But if they're not willing to go over our amount but still want him then we can trade so they can keep him on their terms. I'm not saying it doesn't make things more difficult for Melbourne. Clearly it does. But there's still value there.
-
Cheers mate, I was wondering how those types of scenarios might work? As you said, it does sound like it has it's risks though.
-
I get what you're saying. But wont it work both ways? Moloney says I'm going to Carlton because they're offering me 350K over 2 years. We say, well we can match that offer but if you really want to go then we'll trade you?
-
No for me. Very good player but don't think he's the midfield general that we're after. Lenny Hayes leads the way down there at Seaford (still sounds weird saying that). I'd prefer Boak. Think he's more capable of leading the midfield.
-
Hasn't it already been mentioned in another thread that because Moloney is a restricted free agent there's still trade value for him. He can't just walk, cause we can match any offer. Either way, Magner stays for me. Apart from Lawrence I don't expect to see any change to our rookie list as I think there's good potential for all of them. Williams I think will get another year because of the illness he had. Edit: English....

Trading our First two Picks for Beams & Wellingham
MadAsHell replied to ashdemons22's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not interested in Beams so a no for me. Funnily rnough I'd be more interested in Wellingham. And for him I'd trade our pick 13 with Petterd for Sharrod and their first round pick. So as far the question, no I wouldn't trade our first 2 picks for either of them. Beams I'm not convinced could habndle being a number 1 midfielder, and while I think Sharrod would be a handy role player, he isn't worth pick 4. Edit: Spelling -
Jamar's going nowhere. If we are to trade any of our ruckmen, it'll be Martin or Spencer seeking greater opportunities at somewhere like Geelong, Port Adelaide or GWS where they'd be in with a shot of landing the No 1 ruck role or Hawthorn or St. Kilda where they'd be guarenteed the No 2 ruckman spot.

Hey KC, was wondering how little Nathan 'Ferret' Page went? Really like the look of this little goal sneak. Reckon he might be worth a rookie selection.

The MFC 'B-side' in the AFL competition
MadAsHell replied to Curry & Beer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Think you'll find that both Evans and Jetta played for Casey today and Tom McDonald played for Melbourne. You also mentioned Tapscott not being up to getting a game when he was a late withdrawl through injury. All teams have injuries no matter how much money they have or the facilities at their disposal. Look at Essendon, I remember there was a game last year when Freo had 28 players to pick from. You're following the wrong game if you don't expect injuries to occur. -
Queens Birthday 2010 he had a pretty brilliant game I thought. 38 touches if I'm not mistaken.
-
But he's restricted, so we can always offer to match any offer (we have the money) to stop him from walking for nothing. Edit: Sorry, I see that comment has previously been made.
-
They just need to get rid of that stupid Foxtel Cup that no one watches, that's the reason why there's about 4-5 byes fot the season. If that competition wasn't there, then there'd only need to be 2 byes in the VFL for the season. If Essendon to form their own VFL team next season then we'll be up to 14 and hopefully that may help with the fixturing a little.

Moloney for Gumbleton?
-
You're right with that. I know the club rate him extremely highly. Just a question of whether or not that rate him as a top 5 pick? I get the impression that they do, but I could be wrong.
-
I'm very confident that JV will be at the club next year whether we have to take him 2nd or 1st round. It's just a game of seeing if GC or GWS are willing to play Russian Roulette with their recruiting and list? Will GC want to risk loosing Lachie Whitfield? Will GWS want to risk loosing Brodie Grundy when they're crying out for a ruckman???
