  1. Said it before and I'll say it again, Rivers captain for 2 years and then to be replaced by Trengove. Rivers Captain, Moloney VC, while Jones, Grimes, Frawley, McKenzie, Trengove & Watts make up the rest of the leadership group. Rivers leads by example on the filed by throwing himseld into contests and backing back into packs at his own peril. Has been in the system several years now, seems to have the respect of all his team mates and handles himself in the media just as well if not better then any of Green, Davey, Moloney, Jones or any of our older players. 2 years is enough time to let the role come to a Trengove or Grimes without as much pressure as would come now and should also tie in reasonably well with when Rivers starts to come towards the later years of his career. Where's HT, I know he'll agree with me!
  2. Spot on there TU! I hope we give Lyon time. I do like the look of him. He has truggled since the 1 st test but I reckon he's the best we've got at the moment. I'd like to give him the whole summer to try and settle in, may turn out to be no good but a bit of faith could bring he rewards. Trent Copeland has the potential to be a McGrath clone but I agree his lack of pace is a worry. Personally for our line & length bowler I'd have both Josh Hazelwood (always injured) and Clint McKay ahead of him. McKay could consider himself unlucky. He's far from express also, but I reckon he does have a bit moer on it then Copeland does. Siddle as you said is ok but that's it. With Harris injured I can understand why he's getting a game but as soon as Harris is right to go again I'd bring him in. I reckon James Pattinson would be a better option then Siddle also. Different type of bolwer being a swing bowler but has a lot more upside then Siddle. Johnson is the most annoying bolwe going around. Has the ability to be one of the best but is mentally fragile. I'd like to see Mitchell Starc have a good domestic summe to start putting some pressure on Johnson. And as far as our batting goes some serious changes need to be made. Watson needs to drop down to at least number 4. His batting's suffering cause of the extra bowling we need him to do I reckon so the sooner we drop him down the order like RSA did with Kallis the better. Hussey with his technique should move to open the innings IMO along with Marsh. Khalwaja is probably our best option at number 3 seeing as Ponting hasn't passed 50 in his last 9 innings! Clarke to number 5 cause he has to bat somewhere even though he isn't doing it well and Ferguson should bat at 6 I reckon. There's a lot of issues with the Australian side at the moment. They were unlucky with the weather in the 2nd test but certain areas still need to be addressed.
  3. Hate to be a negative Nancy, even though it was a great effort by Lleyton. But if Hewitt can't beat Wawrinka on grass (Wawrinka's worst surface & Hewitt's best) at home then surely the end is coming. Maybe an Australian Open farewell tournament for Lleyton. Should play in the singles and would also be nice to see him play in the doubles at the Aussie Open with Tomic, changing of the guard if you will. And the mixed doubles with Sam Stosur as she like Hewitt has been our most succesful womens player in the last 30 years. Hewitt, Tomic & Stosur would have to all be willing to do this but it would be a nice way to go out IMO.
  4. Of course Mark Neeld will choose he he wants as assistant coaches and wont be influenced by what threads are on Demonland. The whole point of the thread is for a discussion to see what other people think are some good assistant coached or potential assistant coaches out there that they think would be a good fit. There's no difference between a thread like this and the one for who people wanted to be senior coach. It's not our choice it's clearly a discussion of people's opinions. Clearly the only cr*p thing about this thread are the two of you. Edit: Spelling.
  5. His TV side of things is going to dry up considerably with channel 10 loosing the footy. Coaching may interest him.
  6. He actually could be a better fit for back line coach then Peter German who I initially had in there.
  7. I agree, Lloyd is a tool. But I reckon having him on the coaching panel, especially with our forward line would prove to be nothing but a positive.
  8. Here's what I'd like to see as our coaching panel for next year. Trying to keep to Neeld's comment of getting people from succesful backgrounds. Senior Coach: Mark Neeld (confirmed, Ocen Grove 4 premierships, learnt craft under Blight & Malthouse) Senior Assistant: Dean Laidely (96' premiership player. Took poor North lis to 07' prelim, learnt craft under Pagan/Malthouse) Forward Line Coach: Matthew Lloyd (2000 premiership player, coached by Sheedy, will be available with chn 10 loosing TV rights) Midfield Coach: Shannon Grant (99' premiership player, coached by Pagan & Laidley, learnt craft under Hird while VFL coach of Bendigo) Back Line Coach: Peter German (04 & 06 premiership coach at Subiaco, current VFL coach of Williamstown. Coached by Pagan & worked as an assistant under the likes of Eade, Connolly & Judge) Development Coach: Todd Viney (same as current) Innovations Coach: Dave Dunbar (same as current) General Manager, List Managment: Tim Harrington (same as) General Manager, Football Operations: Neil Craig (Coached Adeliade FC to 05' minor premiership & 5 consecutive finals appearance) Is there anyone else people would like to see come to the club? Other coaches I'd like to see include Gavin Brown & Adam Kingsley, however unless the position is a promotion as such I reckon it will be difficult to poach some coaches from rival clubs.
  9. Well Ireland have just beaten Australia 15-6 in a huge upset. Turns the whole comp on it's head. Australia will now likely finish 2nd in their group and have to play South Africa in the quarter finals and even if they win that will then have to play NZ in the semis. While Ireland on the other hand will get to play Wales, Fiji or Samoa in the quarter finals before coming up against an England or France in the semis. I know I tipped Ireland as my dark horse at the start of the comp, but this result has still caught me by suprise. Only way Australia can top their group now is if Italy can score an upset win over Ireland , that game's in a week or so. Then the positioning in that group will come down to point difference and that type of thing.
  10. I agree about Rivers having limited impact offensively but would disagree about him going missing in our losses. In fact out of all the players in our leadership group this year, I'd say along with Jones Rivers was our most consistent player. Don't get me wrong, long term I see our leaders as Trengove, Watts, Grimes, McKenzie, Frawley etc but I think we need to be mindful of not throwing to much onto Trengove's plate to soon. The reason why I reckon Rivers works for a 2 year stint is because he's 27, speaks well in the media, is highly regarded at the club and was even previously endorsed by David Neitz as a potential captain. I'd argue a lot of people would have made the same arguments about Nick Maxwell before he was made captain at Collingwood, however it's been the making of him. I think Rivers would be a good appointment for a temp basis on the grounds of his consistency, his age, the way he carries himself in the media and his current status within the playing group. Lets just give Trenners till he's at least 22 and played more then 50 games before we expect him to move heaven & earth for the club.
  11. Shattered if that's the case. Need to make sure we surround Neeld with the best assistants available, preferably some people with senior coaching experience. If Craig isn't coming to the club hopefully we look at a Laidley instead.
  12. I've said it in previous threads. Rivers for 2 seasons and then Trengove to take over. Get Trengove, Frawley & McKenzie into the leadership group next year.
  13. Very happy if this is the case.
  14. My wish list. Senior Coach: Mark Neeld Senior Assistant: Dean Laidley Forward Line Coach: Matthew Lloyd Midfield Coach: Scott Burns Back Line Coach: Brady Rawlings Development Coach: Todd Viney Innovations Coach: Dave Dunbar List Managment: Tim Harrington General Manager of Football Operations: Neil Criag If that can be our coaching set up next year I'll be very happy!
  15. Rumor is Mark Neeld to coach Melbourne next year. Source Mike Shehan. Sssshhhhh...... Very hush hush.
  16. With the events of Ross Lyon signing with Fremantle and looking for immediate success I reckon the question the below article asks will be answered. http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/afl/dockers-torn-between-choosing-mitch-clark-and-jaeger-omeara/story-e6frg1xu-1226133807690 With Fremantle likely to recruit Mitch Clark and go for a premiership in the next few years while Pavlich, Sandilands, McPharlin, Grover & McPhee are still around it leaves us in the best position to secure pick 1 in the mini draft for O'Meara with our 2 1st round compensation picks to deal with.
  17. Would love it if we end up with a Neeld/Burns/Craig trifecta!
  18. Tweet from Caroline Wilson earlier today. 'Mick Malthouse has been conspicuous in his lack of comment on multiple coaching vacancies. He is believed to be considering his options' Perhaps adds some fuel to the fire???
  19. Craig's ladder positioning with Adelaide in his seasons there before this year go. 2005: 1st 2006: 2nd 2007: 8th 2008: 5th 2009: 5th 2010: 11th So he got some good results with them, although their finals record was ordinary. Burns was a great little player & leader at the filth. I put him in the James McDonald mold. If Junior was able to demand the respect of the playing group I reckon Burns will. I really rated him as a player.
  20. Garry looked very comfortable with where Melbourne are at as far as finding a coach goes. Makes me think that either Malthouse or the Burns/Craig combo is in the bag. Would prefer Malthouse but Burns/Craig would be good also I reckon!
  21. While I'd prefer a Malthouse or R. Lyon we wont be in a world of hurt with an untried coach as long as we give them a good senior assitant. Say we get a Neeld or Burns as senior coach with an Craig, Eade, Pagan or Laidley as senior assistant.
  22. The Burns/Criag combination does sounds pretty good to me on the basis that we're unable to land Malthouse or R. Lyon. It's odd, apart from channel 10 no one else seems to be running with R. Lyon to definatly stay with the Saints next year?
  23. Added Williams & Craig to the list. No Brian Royal sorry....
  24. Didn't he rule himself out around the same time Paul Roos did?
