The stupidity of the VFL’s fixturing comes to the fore on Friday in mid-afternoon when a crowd of one or two dozen (weather permitting) turn up to watch a VFL game at Mission Whitten Oval which is probably out Footscray way. That’s where the Casey Demons will be playing this week and, despite the fact that they won’t play against about three other VFL clubs at all this year, they take on Footscray for the second time in 2024. They have already played the Brisbane Lions twice. Go figure?

Both are out for the season with long term injuries which is disappointing for the club as it was hoping that these two would represent the man body of experienced VFL players along with Mitch White. They were basically the replacements for the likes of Jimmy Munro and Matt Buntine and these players are important at AFL aligned clubs for the steadiness and consistency they bring.
