  1. Excuse my ingorance on the swine flu topic but it has been reported on Demonology that Brighton Grammar has been closed due to 2 positive cases of Swine Flu..... the poster is uncertain if it was the senior or junior school.

When closing the schools in victoria have they been putting ALL students into quarantine?

I doubt it but stranger things have happened.

  2. He'd be hard pressed to find any evidence of that, apart from Rd 22, 2007. (dah...da..da...dada..)

I hope he's been watching the Dees of late anyway.

Agreed, I'd say it was a question posed to him and the entire story hasn't been put forward. How often do we see journo's only printing what they want!!!

  3. Hopefully Richmond take him and we get Scully, we are not going to finish last. In the last 12 games I give us a real chance against Richmond, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Fremantle and West Coast and an outside chance against Syney, Brisbane, Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton. Lucky for us Fremantle and West Coast will take WA Kids with there first picks as we might not get a pick until No 4.

I find it very unlikely that we'll win another 3 games, yet alone 5 with the possibility of close to 8.

I cannot fault the tackling or the pressure applied by our guys but our turnovers and our inability to kick a winning score due to our poor forward line will curtail any plans of a run of victories in the second part of our season.

We'll end up with either Butcher or Scully if they go 1 or 2, we know as the season progress' there will be a bolter or 2 come draft time.

I personally agree with Butcher, who'd want to go and play for a team that deliberately loses games?

  4. I'd like to think that Daniel Bell gets another week to settle and have a crack at it.

I agree that with our forward like functioning like an U12's we definately need a marking target, I'll probably get shot down for this one but I think Newton could be given another opportunity without Miller in the side as a lead up target.

  5. I lived in Tassie for 5 years. Every team in Tassie is a Devil or a Tiger it is bloody boring and predicable.

However If any team was formed in Tassie It should be called the "TATERS"

We used to go to Nth Hobart oval and watch the Devils play when they were good under Ex Dee Beams. We called them the taters.

We named all the players, Wedges, Gnocchi, The Masher, Spud, Kennebec, Pink eye, Chips, Frenchy, Jason Heatley was still called the Heater though.

We called Nth Hobart over The Deep Fryer.

It was great. The next year another group of drunks were also calling them the Taters and even had there own T Shirts made up.

So if any Team came from Tassie they should call them after what it is really famous for......the good old spud.

    GOOOOO TATERS!!!!

That is probably close to the most stupidist thing I have ever read.

  6. Firstly I figure the side will be Tasmania related, not Hobart or Launceston to avoid the split allegiances.

Do you think the side will be Tassie, Tasmania or Tasmanian?

Obviously Tigers and Devils are the first things that come to mind for the team name but probably can't be used for obvious reasons. Has anyone got any better ideas?

    The Apples?

    The Quolls?

    The Frogs?

    The Blue Gums?

Pretty average, but am trying to think of something Tasmanian. Any better ideas, or maybe something completely different?

Previously sides from Tassie have been : Tasmanian Devils and the underage side playing as Tassie Mariners.

  7. At the start of 2008 Melbourne and Essendon had new coaches. Both had old lists and began culling their older players. The football world expected both clubs to be down for a few years while they rebuilt their lists.

This year we've seen both sides heading in different directions to each other. The Bombers are rising, their young players kicking on, their middle aged players showing more maturity and consistency while their older players are still being phased out. They are displaying a system and attractive running game, are winning games and last night took another step up defying the odds and beating the reigning premiers.

By contrast, Melbourne remains at the bottom of the ladder with just one win. We're playing an ugly brand of football and, while our defence is improving, our mid age players are showing minimal improvement at best and we seem to be going nowhere. Already, after only six games, supporters are talking about and dreaming about the end of the year draft and priority picks. The coach talks of being "competitive".

Why aren't we even looking as if we're developing a winning culture like the Bombers are?

To be fair, Dean Bailey inherited a list that was ageing and stale, it lacked class, speed and the development of the mid aged bracket had been neglected and we are continually paying for the price for this. By contrast, Essendon had Lloyd, Lucas and Fletcher, all champion players of the game. They have leg speed, some class and they tend to develop players better than what we did in the Daniher era.

We are starting way behind and the road to recovery was always going to be long irrespective of what those that wear the rose coloured specs think.

We have made positive steps forward but there is still a long road to travel.

  8. I think it is time to get the Storm's tackling coach and a few players back to the club.... from memory we did this a few years ago with a fair bit of success..... lets do it again!

  9. Why oh why would we waste time on a limited one trick pony with an attitude as hard as warm custard.

I know we are desperate up forward but......

His 1 trick in the VFL was a lead up mark and goal forward. When he had space to move in he was a very difficult proposition, I'd like to know what has happened in between the time h carved it up and now. I spoke with Robbo over the christmas break and he had the opinion that Newton had made inroads into his attitude problems but did admit he was a very laconic lad at the best of times.

If he got back to the bread and butter stuff of leading into space, i'm sure we'd see an improved player, I certainly don't think he'll be a 50 - 60 goal option but if we can get 30 to 40 and get the ball coming to ground then that is a massive win.

Like you I have my reservations but at present we don't have any other options and I definately don't think Stef Martin is the man to do it.

  10. Miller to make long leads and free up the forward 50

That comment so far is the smartest thing to come of this thread. Miller has always played his best footballer when he leads up the field from the Natural CHF position. He provides a target and he is able to use his mobility, he leads to the wings and also can lead straight up the ground. As our disposal from HB improves, Miller and Bate can play the central lead up roles, regardless of what you think of Newton, he needs to be given an opportunity to make the F50 his own, he has played some good footy in the VFL Seniors and Reserves when he has space to work in.

With Bate and Miller leading up, Newton being the goto man inside 50, with Petterd, Davey, Jetta and Aussie roaming around for the crumb. If you play Newton from the Square, then there is possibly the opportunity to use Sylvia as an alternate target. It isn't ideal but we've got to make the best of what we've got until better options come along.... but it can work if they all stick to the role designated and play disciplined football.

  11. I never vary facts, and yes, your moderating was as much a joke as your football input. But that wasn't the reason for your cyber stalking. Talk about an infatuation. No wonder you've followed me over here.

Drop me another line and I'll send you an autograph.

    Lightweight.

EDIT: in deference to Jack I'll desist from responding to your inane banter and use the ignore list for the very first time.

    Need I say more.

  12. Watch out Rhino, before you know it your personal message box will be inundated with child like taunts ! I exposed the dropkick years ago for being a lightweight when it comes to footy discussion. Took offence for some reason.

He really does have trouble seeing passed that mound on his forehead to type the innocous comebacks.

    (Flea, flea, Mr Sparkles, etc.)

You continue to say that Hannabal, you actually had a crack at me about moderating, not footy discussion, the reason you got a message from me was that I was not on Demonology and it didn't need to be said in the public arena at Demonland. Nice variation of the facts, Flea.

Yes, Flea, because that is exactly what you are. I don't need to change my pet name for you because it works.

I got sick of arguing with your 55 alias' on Demonology, Blackduck, Dilligaf, lol who you claimed was your brother, that was a classic.

You really are pathetic Hannabal.... or should I say, Flea.

  13. wait a sec. are you indicating that tom actually takes notice of what goes on on a footy forum?

I pointed Rhino's comments out to Tom's father, I wasn't talking about Tom reading them.

you know with who? or do you know who the possibles are?

Carlton, Collingwood and Hawthorn are all very keen to secure his services.

  14. No Sleeve sniping is the role you are renowned for. Rather than brag you know someone on the inside to form one of your egocentric little barbs you might have used that as a basis to provide some credible information on Hislop. I guess its beyond you.

I've provided some info on Tom, such as the fact he was offered a 1 year deal that he declined, well before it was public domain.

As for a well renowned sniper..... I'm flattered, you must be a great mate of the Flea's.

Good name drop big guy! Didn't realise you were a mover and shaker in AFL circles.

Name drop? lol...... I know Tom's family well and rest assured, your comments directed at Tom haven't gone unnoticed.

Is that the best you've got?

  15. No idea.

Perhaps performing their 'duties' in looking after his welfare.

He is delisted and the club no longer need to look after his welfare, We are not looking after Jeff White, or Adem Yze, or Isaac Weetra's welfare, once delisted, the club has no further obligation other than medical if you suffered injury whilst still on the list.

  16. Hislop has fundamental character and attitude issues at the bottom end of AFL population.

You've come to this conclusion reading a couple of football forums and a news paper article stating he had some off field issues, this to you means he is at the bottom end of the AFL population? You are a complete and utter joke, you sit here and spout about that rubbish like you're some sort of authority on AFL footy behaviour when clearly your nothing more than an insidious internet sniper.

And there is no surety that Hislop has the strength of character and mind to focus on AFL after a series of really immature and stupid behaviours.

There is also a very real chance that he can....... I told his father today to read the crap you posted.... he had a chuckle and made the comment.. " That fellow played a bit of AFL did he.... "

I think you need to quit reading your own material Rhino because the junk you post as gospel is so far off the mark.

  17. "is there anybody who has played in all of them?"

    no, mate...

the last time you played, we worked out that you were the only bloke who had (up to that stage) played in all of them...

and I reckon I am the only person in the world who has watched them all...

I'm keen to debut next game, send me email old man.
