  1. I heard (third hand) of a club official describing trade week as "that week where we try to offload all our players that are no good, and every other club tries to do the same". Pretty much sums it up, really.
  2. These things are all essential for playing elite level football. Playing in the IR isn't essential, it's a gimmick and that's it. And you're being silly with the driving thing. I remember a few years ago Luke Hodge came under fire because he played a game of cricket in the off season for a mate's cricket club (and scored a heap of runs too IIRC). That's a more suitable comparison. Players should be looking after their bodies as best as they can, but obviously within reason (banning them from driving is outside the bounds of reason).
  3. This rumour comes up every year. Might have a bit more legs this year though as it's been reported on AFL.com.au that he's asked for a trade.
  4. Haha! They pulled the article. Epic fail, Herald Sun. I'm still giggling :D
  5. Yes, thank heavens we haven't got Bails sitting there saying "pretty good is enough, Rick, so keep up the good work" anymore.
  6. In dire need of some continuity. This might sound extreme or alarmist, but I think he's still at risk of not making it. That would be a huge shame. I'd love nothing more than to see him play 20+ games next year.
  7. Was competing with his locker room neighbour for a spot in the side this year. Started the year behind and finished with a comprehensive victory in that battle - thank God. Still got lots of room for improvement, but there's a lot to like. The one handed marks annoy me; it's just asking for trouble. Overall I'd say I'm pretty happy with his development trajectory so far.
  8. Now that I've had time to think this through a bit, I still think they are tied together. The want is useless without the do, and the do doesn't exist without the want. Each of them implies the other, and either of them in isolation have no meaning. This is getting a tad on the abstract side though, really.
  9. It's actually impressive, the way we on Demonland can manage to turn ANY thread in to an opportunity to bag Morton. The guy had a bad year, give him a break FFS.
  10. He's currently the best player on our list, but for whatever reason doesn't deliver as such every week. It feels like I've been waiting forever for Col to come of age. Continue to wait I shall...
  11. Fair enough. And I didn't actually say Cale had been robbed of luck, was just making a general comment.
  12. He's obviously loved by the club, and he's also loved by me. Keep up the good work Jordie - can't think of a player who I'd be more pleased for to see carrying the cup on Grand Final day.
  13. I can't think of a player in my lifetime that I've had so much trouble supporting. Would accept any neutral trade for him and would strongly consider a downgrade in late round draft picks if it came to that. Would keep Bate ahead of Dunn. Let's just hope that other clubs are as sucked in by his faux toughness as many Demonland members are.
  14. Determination and application sound like one and the same thing. I'd say the three broad qualities are talent, application/determination and luck. Plenty of players have had failed careers on the lack of element #3.
  15. There's nothing wrong with having standards.
  16. My only concern is that I see him through such ridiculously rose coloured glasses that even I recognise it, so I could be setting myself up for huge disappointment (cue rpfc...). I just find it really hard to form an objective opinion of him. Anyway, he's a certainty for the captain role after Green makes way for mine.
  17. Agreed. Have said a few times now that no player needs a new coach more than Cale.
  18. That clip was a classic. How had I not seen that before?
  19. FFS. This again?
  20. The latest is that he still hasn't signed.
  21. Exactly. Any support (as a Tasmanian) gave to a Tassie team would be secondary at best. As much as I'd love games here every second week, it makes no sense. I'm an MFC supporter through and through now, it's part of my makeup and I'd find it really tough to change. What might happen is that my kids grow up supporting the Tassie team instead of succumbing to my brainwashing, but this isn't growing support for the game, it's just diluting the support for other teams.
  22. Competing directly with #46 for a spot on a back flank I think. The stakes were upped late in the year - ball's in #7's court now. God speed.
  23. What were your doubts about his application based on?
  24. Not fussed one way or the other with this bloke. I absolutely love his endeavour and his competitiveness, but as a footballer he's 'par'. Replaceable, and if we're short on spots after trade week (read: can't offload Bate and/or Dunn) I'd be happy for a line to go through his name to clear space.
