BBO and stu have two week holidays for hijacking yet another thread. Seems I'm having to delete 30+ posts from threads just about every time I log on, getting a tad sick of it.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ALEXIS GEORGIOU

With Davis and Sellar gone we had zero developing/reserve key position defenders on the list. It's not that much of a mystery to me. -
I was wondering when chiropractic was going to rear its ugly head in this discussion, especially with a couple of physios posting in this thread. I thought about introducing it myself when I saw ding's scathing attach on homeopathy.
-
Agree with this, but in so many discussions like this, people can't tell the difference between a reason and an excuse.

So what else exactly did you want to know about Carroll? All the facts are here for you to read via the linked articles. You can ignore the rest of it's not to your taste, but given Carroll's background, I consider the discussion relevant and do not consider it a derailment of the thread.

What compounds it for me is that I don't even really know anyone personally who was affected. My father had not yet become an Australian citizen, my uncles were too young and most of the other people I know from that generation managed to avoid it. I count myself lucky to be so sheltered, but I'm glad I haven't chosen the path of ignorance like a couple in this thread have.
-
Going off topic a bit now, but for a 30 year old like me, it's hard to reconcile a couple of blokes who regularly post on the footy forum I post on, celebrating the fact that they avoided conscription. It doesn't seem like the same world. Obviously I know it happened, but I still struggle to imagine an Australia where people my age and younger are being ordered to go to war - and what a relief it must have been for those who were exempted.

You can't work out how a man who "would fly in to wild rages at the drop of the hat" and "shake, break into clammy sweats, hit the booze and go off on his own for months on end" might have a severe negative impact on his children?

I had no idea Tom Williams was still on the Bulldogs list. 78 games since 2004. In the era of small lists, it's very rare for a player to be given so much time to deliver.

Ready made role players are Terlich and Matt Jones. They had good years and they should play plenty this year, but how many players like this do you need? I supported the notion last year and believe it was worthwhile, but if you get too carried away with this, you're just packing the list with filler I reckon. -
Not going to harp on about this, but people do lie to their friends and family, sometimes even to the point where they believe their own bulldust. The human psyche is a funny thing when someone has done the wrong thing. I'm not taking a view on Brown's guilt or otherwise, I just think it's a tad naive to believe the testimony of the accused is the most accurate recollection of the events.

This is what I thought would be the case. With all the awareness about concussion management, I'd be staggered if the club doctors would allow Rohan anywhere near a footy field if there was any concern at all. Of course, what would they know compared to WYL and co?

I get the impression we preferred Tippett, but he was gone by our pick. Based on nothing other than hearsay and gut feeling. Would be interested in hearing from someone like goodoil who seems to have the... goodoil. -

Chuckle. No surprises that we took a ruck prospect. -

Off to North.

Jeez, being delisted almost immediately after being drafted is harsh. Not hard to see why that practice isn't allowed any more.
-
It will come back, but in terms of timeliness - with the number of evenings I've had to spend putting the site back together in recent weeks due to disasters, you'd be amazed at how low my care factor is for non-urgent issues at present. I will get there.

You do realise all the kerfuffle is about Warner saying something to the media, and not on the field, right? Cook even said he wasn't bothered by Clarke's on the field sledge, it was Warner commenting on Trott's dismissal to the media that he took exception to.
-
Good luck to him, hope he's able to make a recovery. Don't like to see anyone suffer illness of the mind, not to mention that cricket is poorer for his absence. You'd reckon David Warner would feel pretty small now. Next time just leave it on the field, mate.
-
Don't disagree with the crux of your point, but I'd say there's a fair bit of difference hygiene wise between having a quick wizz on the tyre of the training van and taking a leak on a bar where drinks and food are served.

Jordan Silk has scored his 4th century in 9 first class matches after scoring 63 in the first innings against SA. How long...? Ed Cowan also 116 not out, with Alex Doolan at the crease. The other notable score in this match was 98 from 19 year old SA batsman Travis Head. It's the last day so this game will clearly be a draw, but it sounds as if it's been a very interesting match insofar as looking at young batsmen goes.

Precisely. I'd be staggered if anyone ever got selected directly from somewhere like Dodges Ferry - I doubt the club has the resources to be scouting country Tasmanian clubs. Howe was playing at the highest level you can play in Tasmania when he was drafted.
